Enjoyed your justification of being 'favorite'. Very sweet, and totally true, many games that are not the best of all time are held dear in the hearts of those who were affected by them in times of need.

I got it for like $8.50 recently on Switch "DLC's included" so for that price I'd say I got what I paid for and then some.

Yup. Quick review: Combat is more mainstream and arguably more fun but the characters and romance side of things didn't hit as strong for me. Music is still great, visuals are improved. Performance is a mixed bag but on switch is pretty abysmal.

Dont know why people like this game so much, I played it a few years ago and barely get an hour into it cause the MC is so annoying.

Maybe it's because I just found out about these games yesterday, but I don't get why you shit on the story so much. This is the kind of dystopian plot that's not uncommon in anime/manga, and rare in n64 games. As for the way it was told, they did it through cutscenes and voice acting on the damn n64 in the late 90s on a small budget. Like sure, the result might be cringe now, but for the time and what they had to work with, I'd say they did a good job. It's not like they had a lot of money to motivate the actors, honestly I was surprised they even had voice acting. I only really cringe when it's this bad if it's a recent game from a decent developer, when there are certain expectations of quality.

one of the things i loved the most when facing nightmares in the dungeons, is that they act in real time while you are still locked into turn based combat. Seeing their turn order creep forward while you make choices is one hell of an adrenaline rush

1:18 Uhh... FPS was figured out long before that, buddy. Little known game called Quake, you may have heard of it? 🙄
@TarksGauntlet
@TarksGauntlet Ай бұрын
On PC, sure. Lots of big FPS's before quake on there too. But that was one platform and it wasn't nearly as adopted for gaming as the console market was at the time. Console FPS's didn't really start getting big until goldeneye and beyond. It really took the advent of the analog stick followed by dual analog controls to get first person shooters playing comfortably on consoles, which really gave the genre the edge to dominate the gaming landscape at large and surpass anything it had done sales-wise prior.

Frankly, while Zero and Azure are good, and make it to the top of some people's lists, they aren't super necessary. Nor is sky 3rd. Or the Nina & Swin novelette. I skipped those things and merely read a synopsis of those games (after playing CS2, before doing CS3).
@rapha4386
@rapha4386 Күн бұрын
By this logic… no game is super necessary. You can easely start with Daybreak and you'll be fine as long as you read a brief synopsys of the story so far.

I played Ar Tonelico II and loved the game. Translation might be wonky but having no reference I didn't mind it. Re-translated version is probably much better... if only I had infinite time to re-play jRPGs I already played... I have Ar Tonelico III for PS3 which I didn't play yet. Have even true 720p CRT for it and the moment I have vibe to play jRPG I will play it. p.s. Didn't experience AT2 glitch. I played in Japanese because I always play with Japanese voices.

I'll never get sick of hearing about the things that make you human whenever you feel like sharing. I'm personally in a really bad place right now mentally, feeling overwhelmingly guilty for my inaction and inadequacy towards doing my part & helping my family through the tough time we're in financially. 21 and I'm still stuck in the same rut of fear since finishing high school. But it really helps hearing about you and your life to know that you've persevered despite all that you've gone through. My stuff feels like small bananas in comparison, but I still couldn't help tearing up in the ending section tying it back to the game. Thank you for this, your videos have come to mean a lot to me because of your authenticity and real moments. Even before that section, you really managed to convince me to try this game that I would've otherwise dismissed as not being my thing on the surface. I'm continuing to look forward to your future projects, much love

I'm willing to bet you already know all the best advice people can give but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to repeat it- Sometimes it's a waiting game. Perseverance. Persistence. Etc. Shit gets better. It can take a long time to find yourself comfortable and content in life, and life has a crazy way of making you keep reevaluating what those words and feelings mean. Just keep pushing through. Someday you'll find yourself content in life, even when it's difficult. Don't let the weight of your teens and twenties keep you down forever.

At least in the west the proprietary memory card thing was overblown; the slim had one built in and it still didn't sell. The marketing was ALL about it being a companion device to the PS3 and they were giving away 2-3 titles every month with PS+ - so the attach rate for carts was non-existent. Third parties pulled support very quickly as they couldn't sell units on the platform; which is almost the same situation modern Xbox has got itself into.

First of all, this review is amazing. It actually told me what the game is that I wasn't able to find elsewhere. I truly wish I watched this before I bothered buying the game and going through the long intro to get to the map select screen. Secondly, there is no way I am going to finish this. I always try to finish every game I start but I have to walk away from this one. Luckily I got in on sale. The set up is good but I'm not enjoying the characters or the story so far. As soon as I got to the map, I started clicking around locations to maybe or maybe not encounter someone, for a brief, tedious nothing exchange to then repeat over and over, I had to ask what the hell was going on here. To learn that I need to follow a guide in a visual novel is madness! Is this the dark souls of visual novels? And then I have to do it again and again, through all the characters, to get to this enlightening ending? My time is way more valuable than that. I'm out. I'm deleting this off my switch.

Hey man, amazing vid, really glad you put this together. This is one of my favourite games as well and holds a special place for my childhood as well. I didn't recognize its impact at the time, at least in context of the experience around me, just like you. I wouldn't say my living conditions were horrible in a physical sense, and I would say hip hop music and basketball were the things that really saved me from my internal/external troubles, but this game captured my wonder like none other. I had never played JRPGs - in fact I was really just playing sports and action games at the time. It took me years after getting this game as a gift to actually play it, and it took me about 10 years to complete it (2 incomplete playthroughs as a kid/teenager, beat it in my early 20s). I was never the same!! The way the story evolved to get bigger and bigger while keeping you invested in the characters was awesome, and Rose is still my favourite character in gaming. The addition system spoiled me as well because its been hard to get into other similar games in regards to combat as that set the standard for me. At least once a year I go down a nostalgia rabbit hole on this game, and I love finding new content and perspectives! Great vid man.

How do you feel about wear and tear on the buttons? As an owner of one that’s rarely used, I find myself worrying about playing certain types of games on the vita. Hooking up a controller solves the issue, but you’re not using the system as intended.
