To me there does not seem to be a correlation between the names spelling and the pronunciations you are suggesting( i am not saying you are wrong, absolutely not 😊). I almost feel that if i know how to pronounce these name correctly then i could come up with much simpler spelling ( in English) that every one would get it right the first time 😃

Great list. “Cáca milis” and “dún an doras’ are a couple of others that come to mind for me.

Irish is the oldest written European language. Funny Ironic how the Irish brought literacy & learning to Britain & Europe in the 6th to 12th centuries, establishing most of the universities that rose to fame and now its language is so alien to Europe. Tá bród 💚ionam a bheith teanga agus litríocht na h-Éireann agam.

President Theodore 'Teddy' Roosvelt (who popularised the Teddy Bear!) habitually used the expression 'bulley' which may derive from the Irish 'buile' for a blow. Likewise, the exultant expression 'booyah' may derive from 'bua' for victory. These Americanisms aren't used much these days.

Maidir leis an téarma 'Amadán', sin é an focal ag bainnt le buachal/fear lag-intinneach agus 'Óinseach' an focal ag bainnt le cailín/bean lag-intinneach. As a child growing up in a regional city on the other side of Ireland from Dublin 1950's, my mother often called us boys who did silly things 'amadán' and our sisters 'óinseach'. 😁

I have literally only just come across this channel. I have a lot to go through so I wont stay here long. I found it because I was looking for information on what Irish girls call their mother. I have heard a number of options so I thought I would go find out. I was a bit surprised that you call your mother "mom". I was expecting something like Ma or Mam or even Mammy. anyway just thought I would mention that given this is about Irish words. Im going to go check out some of the other videos as I really enjoyed this one.

I’ve never heard of Epiphany being referred to as women’s day. It’s the day the wise men got to baby Jesus; the 12th day of Christmas. My mom was full Irish so I’m wondering why she didn’t know about this. None of her siblings or my grandmother ever mentioned it either 🤔

What do I do if I do not drink? I'm Brazilian and even though my people here drink a lot I do not, since I have alcoholic relatives and really bad experiences with alcohol in general. Do I just say no or do I need to explain myself everytime I'm invited?

I think I'm in love! I'm a Boston ( American) Irish and you sound like you've been in America for a good ten to fifteen years. I believe in Ireland you guys call us Irish Americans "Plastic Paddy's". I don't catch the accent except on a few words. Have you lived in America? Love the channel. Thanks

I hear a voice giving me instructions to say goodbye if the person is going to die soon. Also their souls appear in their face (even animals) the last time I see them. Finally if a relative has died, even if they died on another continent they come to say good bye, I don't see them clearly, I just get glimpses. Both my parents had/ have the same ability.
