So you're saying that because you weren't born with privilege, _you're_ going to choose to be an asshole and follow the same "might is right" myth of warrior-men that the Nazis used as an excuse for their incel racism

Might is Right by Ragnar Redbeard In this arid wilderness of steel and stone, I raise up my voice that you may hear! To the East and to the West I beckon. To the North and to the South I show a sign proclaiming, “Death to the weakling, wealth to the strong.” Open your eyes that you may see, Oh men of mildewed minds and listen to me ye laborious millions! For I stand forth to challenge the wisdom of the world; to interrogate the “laws” of man and of “God.” I request reasons for your Golden Rule and ask the why and wherefore of your Ten Commands. Before none of your printed idols do I bend in acquiescence and he who saith “thou shalt” to me is my mortal foe! I demand proof over all things, and accept with reservations even that which is true. I dip my forefinger in the watery blood of your impotent mad-redeemer and write over his thorn-torn brow “The true Prince of Evil - the king of the Slaves!” No hoary falsehood shall be a truth to me - no cult or dogma shall encramp my pen. I break away from all conventions. Alone, untrammelled, I raise up in stern invasion the standard of the strong. I gaze into the glassy eye of your fearsome Jehovah and pluck him by the beard - I uplift a broad axe and split open his worm-eaten skull. I blast out the ghastly contents of philosophically whited sepulchres and laugh with sardonic wrath. Then, reaching up from the festering and varnished facades of your haughtiest moral dogmas, I write thereon in letters of blazing scorn; “Lo and behold, all this is fraud!” I deny all things! I question all things! And yet! And yet! Gather around me O’ ye death-defiant and the earth itself shall be thine, to have and to hold.

Admittedly, I had to really sit and think while reading this book. It is the truth though, and I appreciate my world view being ripped up every now and then. Sure, it's a painful process emotionally, but outside of emotional discomfort, the truth only serves us.

Just finished reading this book. My fourth Bukowski. I'm not sure how much I liked it: Love his writing style though. It's funny you say don't read it while you're on a dry spell, because I am, and the last thing I got was a boner picturing this old fuck with all these young girls. I kept thinking, "You fucking bastard" lol Love Bukowski overall though.

@gabrielamaya2964

@matt11shawty it's really not. It's what an angry elementary school-aged child would think is true philosophy. But, in reality, it's derivative, shallow and logically flawed. This book doesn't help people, it enables insecurity in men. A man taking advice from this book will end up bitter, lonely and frustrated.
@matt11shawty

@@gabrielamaya2964 how can you argue the points of the book that the modern man is castrated and subservient to things like bosses and religion.. this leads to his failure.. more than ever now are we plagued with mock ideals and poison to distract us from personal power
@gabrielamaya2964
@gabrielamaya2964 Ай бұрын
@matt11shawty the book is nothing more than childish edgelord musings that only scratches the surface of philosophy. There are plenty of other works of nihilistic philosophy that are better crafted. Might is Right takes the attitude of a teenager who hates everything around him, but instead of parents and school, it’s Judeo-Christian ethics and, every important book or work that’s ever been written. It’s a meandering work, lifting liberally from a variety of thinkers and periodically lapsing into Redbeard’s own nonsensical diatribes. The parts he steals from other authors are the only parts that really make sense (like the thoughts you mentioned) Much of the last chapter impugns women, identifying them as “two-thirds womb. The other third is a network of nerves and sentimentality.” In addition to a poor understanding of a woman’s anatomy, it doesn't fit in with a real vision of social Darwinism. It’s an idiotic concept as even animals band together to help one another more often than not, but excluding women from a vision of humanity as Nordic, Objectivist sociopaths is ridiculous. Redbeard also describes women’s “noblest occupation” as “not merely to read erotic novels, pound the fiddle, waltz divinely, or fry steak and onions, but to breed men, to raise up a race of unsubduable fighters - fighters for their own hand.” What reader could absorb such a passage and nod along aggressively to an image of women as violin-playing, romance-novel readers who deep fry steak? This book only exists to give comfort and a false sense of superiority to insecure boys who think they are men. Sheep who think they are wolves.
@matt11shawty
@matt11shawty Ай бұрын
I do think you only disagree with the sentiments towards women because you are one. Also, most of this book is not meant to be taken at face value but rather is hyperbolic, tongue in cheek, so the message is digestible. Which “nihilistic” works convey a clearer, more resolute call to arms than this one?
