Hi Lucy! I loved your video, specially the swag and the after party events you attended! I wish I could've seen the swag you got in more detail because some of it looked intriguing. I'm planning on attending GHC 24 and I was wondering how you registered for the after-party events for each particular company?
@lucywbeck20 минут бұрын
@@ericaross5936 hi! thank you!! Some of the swag was pretty cool! Most of the after party events were invite only. Some companies invited me over email before I got to the conference. Other companies invited me after I went up to their booth. I hope that helps!

Hey Lucy, I'm an incoming transfer to Northwestern studying Computer Science. I tried to reach out to you on Linkedin but maybe you aren't as active there so thought I'd try here. I found your videos on KZbin and they were really helpful in getting a feel of how my experience could potentially be. Thank you for making them. I had a few questions and I'd appreciate it you could provide some insight. 1) If I recall correctly, you mention that you completed the BS/MS and also an internship during your winter and spring quarters. How were you able to fit these experiences in 3 years. Did you take a summer quarter doing classes? 2) Do you think the BS/MS is worth it? I'll be coming in as a junior transfer and I'm deciding between potentially doing the BS/MS or doing a math double major and wanted to know if the MS makes a difference in terms of job opportunities or compensation. 3) I know you came in as a sophomore transfer but did you have any friends among junior transfers. As a sophomore you spend the majority of your time at NU but for juniors you only get 2 years so I'm wondering if there's any differences. Once again thank you for the videos!
@lucywbeckАй бұрын
@@ZahidSyed-f8p Hi! Yes sorry I haven’t been as active on LinkedIn so I’m glad you got my attention here! 1) I was still a full time student when doing my internship for both quarters by taking CFS and one CS class per quarter. I did take 2 classes studying abroad during the summer after my sophomore year but I would’ve been able to finish the BA/MS without them. 2) From my personal experience, I got multiple job offers and having the MS increased my compensation for all of them. An MS can also open up more opportunities in specialized fields but it normally isn’t required for normal software engineering. 3) I’d say that around half of my friends were junior transfers that I met during wildcat welcome. Some of them even stayed an extra half year to one year to complete the BA/MS. Out of the junior transfers I know, I think all of them developed good friend groups while at NU. And you’re welcome for the videos! Congrats on NU!!!💜💜💜
@ZahidSyed-f8pАй бұрын
@@lucywbeck Thanks! This actually helps a lot. By CFS you mean Chicago Field Studies correct? I assumed this was only in Chicago. Was your internship in Chicago? Also for the CS classes you took during your internships, were they online classes or did you have to fly back for exams or something of that sort? Appreciate the other answers as well!
@lucywbeckАй бұрын
@@ZahidSyed-f8p Yes Chicago Field Studies. If you get an internship through CFS, it will be in Chicago. If you get an internship on your own (like I did), then it doesn’t have to be in Chicago. The CS classes were online because of Covid.
@ZahidSyed-f8pАй бұрын
@@lucywbeck Ok that makes sense, thanks a lot. One last question, did you ever have to take 5 or more classes a quarter or like all CS classes? Was that manageable or would you not recommend it?
@lucywbeckАй бұрын
@@ZahidSyed-f8p I took 5 classes a quarter almost every quarter at NU (often all were CS classes) and I was fine. You just have to balance easy and hard classes and 5 a quarter shouldn’t be a problem.
