It's not officially a lifetime license and if BMD is starting to change how they do things with Resolve, like doing Black Friday sales, who knows what else might be changing. It's always been about the hardware for them with Resolve being a tool to make using their hardware easier/better but it's matured a lot in recent years so maybe they're finally going to start treating it like an actual standalone product. Hopefully that doesn't mean they start charging for major version upgrades like most other companies do.

quick little extra use for it which I find amazing and underappreciated: In the Layer Controls << Outlines Controls: you can keyframe the "Alpha" setting, set it at 0 at the beginning of the video, then set to 1.0 at the end this would make it serve as a way to indicate how long of the video left, more of a visual indicator, but there it would replace a lot of effects that I personally and a lot of people user in their videos like a bar for example another user for these awesome free plugins that our community creates, and more of a motivation for me to support these amazing people, thanks a lot Patrick!

I would like to ask you for help: I am a Chinese, and I will get a card with an activation code when I buy it, and I need to go through a dealer to buy it in my country, so there will be additional costs, so it is not cost-effective. And when purchasing on the US official website, will the activation code be sent directly to the email, or will there still be an activation code card?

I just tried to buy it via my iPad and after logging into Paypal and selecting complete payment. I got nothing. I couldn’t tell if the page closed or what but I presume it didn’t go through coz there is nothing on my paypal account. I’m not even sure exactly what happened. I’ll try again in the morning on my PC🤞

Does Davinci charge for upgrades to new versions ? If you had Resolve 18, do you get 19 for free or how much do the upgrades usually cost ?

No, its a lifetime license, so if you pay for DaVinvi Resolve Studio 19 now, when version 20 comes out you wont have to pay again.

It is already extremely cheap. While they don't really need to make money on DaVinci Resolve, they still have development costs on the software.

@@TheCreativiZt Both Da Vinci and Fusion alone cost thousands of dollars, when they were bought by BlackMagic. I think it's a pretty good deal. You've got Resolve, that works with professional color panels, you've got Fairlight, that works with their DAW panels. You've got a professional editing suite. There's no reason to lower the price of an already big bargain - the free version.

One thing to note. As far as I have read and heard. Blackmagic has never said that the studio license is guaranteed to never have to be renewed. But... They are very quick to say that they have yet to charge for an update. Even major version number updates. I bought mine at v16.5 and still use the same code for v19. I don't expect the policy to change anytime soon. But I'd still hesitate to call it a "lifetime license" until I read it from BM's side :)

Tgey can't change the license for the current and previous versions, you've owned. So they will always work. Adobe had the same issue with their software. People can still legally use the versions, before their cloud licenses.

Good point. But the point of releasing Resolve with a free and very reasonably priced version has been to attract potential customers to the Blackmagic eco system to sell them hardware, so hopefully this practice holds.

Probably shouldn’t call it lifetime. They can change their minds at anytime. They NEVER specify LIFETIME. users make up that wording.

It shows it as $235 usd and converts it to $395 AUD. But if you choose to pay the usd option you save another $30 because their store doesn’t convert it at the right cash rate. Rip off.

I dont think I've heard of this ever going on sale before ... On the one hand, I get by well with a free resolve/blender combo, but then again - it's tempting.
