Zooming in DaVinci Resolve is Broken. Here's How to Fix it.

Why are the X & Y easings separate anyway? In my over 30 years of using NLE’s I have never needed to ease them separately, except for some weird bouncing moves or shakie cam effect. IMHO The whole keyframe drop-down area of Davinci is an overly complicated mess and I rarely use it.

Has anyone else mentioned snap-moving keyframes left or right is also broken? They just won't stay on their vertical value!

We find keyframing in the timeline fairly painful here @TYMLT Studios. Easing handles are inconsistent, only occasionally giving a proper 'S' curve, with the handles often pointing up or down the way at 45 deg. More often than not, we just take the clip into Fusion for much more granular control. Didn't even know about the OpenFX Transform... Thanks!

Two things I noticed that don't work like they should, copying and pasting the attribute of crop in the inspector to another clip doesn't crop the clip the crop attribute is pasted on. Another thing, compound clips mess up the audio on export, artifacts and double speaking of lines, weird stuff like that. Solution I think is just to decompose audio before export but defeats purpose of compound clips to an extent..

Thanks so much, Patrick -new sub! - My problem is Dynamic Zoom starts my image zoomed WAY outside the frame from where I put the green sqr & the red sqr wasn't where I had placed it to end on! It might have something to do w/ applying DZ to an image/footage that's already been re-scaled in some way. The re-sized image/footage is probably what's messing it up, but hopefully using the anchor will solve this problem? There are times when you need to resize & still zoom in to a specific area of an image/vid...

Something else that doesn’t work as advertised is Magic Mask. While it creates great masks, it cannot retain the mask data which makes it useless. I’ve tried using Saver and Loader nodes in fusion as a workaround, but those nodes also drop many, many individual frames if not the entire scene as rendered. I’ve researched this issue extensively and cannot find a viable solution except to not use Magic Mask. So, unless I’m missing something that’s ridiculously obvious (which is entirely possible), I’d like to know what it is. Can you, or anyone, help?

You lost me when referring to the order of effects. I often shoot 4K and create 1080p timelines(I am a NNOB). I couldn’t understand what you meant when saying that the zoom happens after the resolution change to 1080p. Do you have a video that explains this better? I like doing the Ken Burns effect for zooming, but do not want to zoom in more than 1080p. How do I know if a zoom will zoom in before or after the resolution change from 4K to 1080p? Hope this question is clear.

That's what's so annoying (4 me anyway). I was using DZ the way you're supposed to, but then my image started zoomed WAY _outside the frame_ from where I put the green 1 & the red 1 wasn't where I had placed it to end on! VERY frustrating!

Been trying to use keyframes for timelapse and it's just plain broken. Unfortunately this workaround won't help either, since I need to zoom in to hires images, which are scaled down when using your method. Definitely good to know though. Thanks! I'm having another really odd issue, as well. When zooming in and easing, somehow the zoom will go far beyond (and even OPPOSITE) to the size specified. For example, when zooming from 1.040 to 1.200 the image actually zooms way OUT to almost 0.000 during the easing. The keyframes are never set below 1.040 yet the image/frame will get tiny as if I zoomed way OUT to 0, but never did. What in the world is that mess about?

Your channel has been so helpful, thank you! Inspired by what you make, I’m really trying to learn and explore the power of the Fusion page recently, but have encountered an issue with my macros that I can’t figure out how to fix. As a simple example, let’s say I have a rectangle that starts at zoom size 0.25 and then grows to 0.5 over 10 frames using a key frame in a transform node. When I export the macro I want to give the user control of the final zoom size at the 10 frame key frame point, but I don’t want them to have control of the 0.25 starting zoom size. Currently when I export a macro with this zoom control available, any changes made by the user in the inspector will instead Zoom the 0.25 start point and then continue to the 0.5 zoom key frame point, 10 frames into the effect. Am I missing something obvious? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Best wishes. Joel.
