Makes one wonder who got worse perception of mentally ill people after the movie. Perhaps people who see them as easy victims and source of entertainment? Perhaps now they are afraid of acting like Murray did? There are many solutions other than the violence, but the movie deals with reality where the society haven't decided to implement them. There are obvious non-violent solutions - not abusing children, paying out massive reparations to victims of abuse and providing high quality help in recovery and disability pensions more than compensating for lost income, not harassing women on trains and not beating up strangers, not cutting mental health services, not humiliating obviously severely mentally ill person before hundred of thousands of TV watchers, etc. The movie is a critique of the society and its violence, especially of the cruelty culture and a warning that the the society can't expect the violence to be one-sided. Also, the thing that has put the protagonist on path of violence is repeated violence of the society, not mental illness. Like his first kills are in self defence against the thugs that attack him in the metro. Mental illness is just one of the harms that the society has inflicted on him. What mental illness did was cause him to develop imaginary romance with a neighbour (which note that he haven't killed or assaulted) and record a pathetic joke tape, not become violent. His violence was an adaptation to society based on power where ordinary people are prey for abusers.

I agree with you on most of what you wrote here. I think the research pointed out is telling however, that there was a shift in perception of people w/mental illness after watching the movie, and that it was a negative shift. I 1000% agree with you in regards to having to clean up society and violence and maltreatment, no argument there. And as a psychiatrist, I can understand motivations for behavior, while also not condoning the behavior. Extremes are extremes though (a whole separate discussion on "terrorism" in an apartheid/oppressive government) In a way, we are seeing Joker play out in real life with the recent Luigi Mangione/United Healthcare CEO assassination, and his current hero status.

In my late teenage years and early 20s, I managed to keep things together. I got a good job, I got married and we bought our first home. As my career progressed and my son was born, it felt like everything began falling apart. My doctor told me I had Anxiety and Depression. The antidepressant and CBT helped some. It felt less like I was trying to hold back an avalanche and more like Sisyphus pushing a boulder uphill. A year ago, my son was diagnosed with ADHD and my wife pointed out that everything she was reading applied to the both of us. I got diagnosed with ADHD recently and finding the right medication and dosage is taking a bit but It's validating to know that there's a reason things seem so hard.

Ok we can agree they’re different. You’re still scum for prescribing it. The long term side effects are never worth it unless you stay at a super low dose which will lose its effectiveness because of tolerance. It destroys people mental health. It just takes a long time to see it in some cases.

that afternoon crash with methylphenidate can be hard. lot of times due to loss of hunger from med and not eating, and when it wears off, you get the hunger mood plus med wearing off effect combined. make sure to eat and hydrate :)

I got just about every diagnosis in the DSM except an accurate one. Until I diagnosed myself with severe ADHD. This is the real problem with Psychiatry. It's the only branch of medicine where diagnosis it totally subjective. It not really about what is going on in the patients brain. But rather what is going on in the Psychiatrists brain. What they happen to be most interested in. Or what they know most about. But then these are the folks who gave us the pseudo-scientific Abrahamic sadism of Homosexuality. Which should have told me everything I needed to know about Psychiatry and Psychology. Unfortunately I failed to learn my lesson. And wasted many years and much money. I now just take Dopamine supplements from Amazon. And stay the hell away from the pseudo--science of Psychiatry. 💙

I was researching trying to find a good daily supplement and came across Dr Amen. Now after watching your video I’m unsure so my question is what daily supplements do you recommend for optimal health. I take vitamin D and am looking for a good multivitamin. Looking forward to your response.
@TheKicksShrink13 күн бұрын
you dont *have* to take a daily supplement. for most people, a general multivitamin would do the job, but if you want to go beyond that, fish oil/omega-3, vitamin d (just because enough people in north america are deficient), probiotic should cover your bases. majority of it you will end up peeing out, but those are generally safe enough. talk with your doc about anything beyond that

In case any of you are interested you're looking at $5,000 out of pocket to go do a dated scan! That has not been proven to be helpful on any medical level which is why your insurance won't cover it. You're going to be encouraged to take very expensive supplements that he of course provides for you at his clinic. Scheduled to use their hyperbaric chamber weekly, again at your cost not covered under insurance. They don't want to pay for stuff that is not research based and scientifically proven to help. While I can appreciate what he's doing. I do have to agree with you Doctor! It appears there's a serious element of snake oil salesmen. My concern is that people will go off of medications they're supposed to be on so that they can get these scans done!! That's exactly what my ex has done with our son. Since he was taken off of his ADHD medication He has felt suicidal. I personally feel this is malpractice to encourage people to do this!! It's very dangerous to go off of medications you're doing perfectly well on that you were put on by another clinic that thoroughly saw your child and looked at everything. Then go hand over five grand to this snake oil salesman while he put my child in further danger!! Having him go off of medications.. To say, I'm livid is an understatement. 😡

Hi Dr You say that you have not seen it in your practice. In forming that conclusion, did you proactively and inquisitively ask your patients what happened to their sexuality once they quit SSRIs sometime in the past. I'm sure most of the patients you see are chronic patients and most of those patients have had a drug free period in the course or their treatment. I can guarantee you that within a month of doing so, you will have dozens of reports of it. Both you and me know that. And we also know that if you received thise reports, most if not all of them would he deemed as a return of depression by you.
@TheKicksShrink16 күн бұрын
i think you are making a bunch of assumptions here, most glaringly that i would deem it a return to depression instead of something that i have studied a fair amount, not just to do the research to make this video i am very open with my patients and ask about their sexuality and functioning on intake and throughout treatment, but i can only go off of what they tell me; if they are not being honest with me, whether out of shame, guilt, discomfort, anything else, i can not read their minds in my practice and experience, when patients have had periods of loss of sexual functioning due to antidepressants, they regained it once they stopped the offending agent i stand by the statement that (to the best of my knowledge) i have not yet encountered a patient in my practice who has permanently lost their sexual functioning after initiating or stopping antidepressants

I lost interest in snaking and binge eating. I eat mostly ounce a day for dinner. I'm used to doing intermittent fasting but i did struggle with cravings. Where as the first week of starting elvanse I started shedding the weight simply by not feeling hungry like before 🎉🎉 the other benefit I saw was I was able to sleep better at night with out going 6 times to the 🚻. As for my adhd it did not kick in whatsoever 😢after starting with 30mg I'm on 100 and still not helping my adhd nore. Do i feel any improvement in focusing and getting tasks done. Also, my anxiety is still very bad😢 Towards the evening, I feel the crash and my anxiety getting worse😢 I really don't know if I should switch to something else since I'm not responding to it. spin it how you want still a drug witch means your a drug dealer your the middle man drug dealer bruh you can argue the fact all you want if has you can change the names of things like saying pharmacy thats just means thats where they cook th medication Aka drugs at it still the drug dealer you can say medication still means the same thing as . . . you guessed it Drugs! the word medication is the same thing is using the word drug! There's no difference except you change the word that's it but it's the same thing ! so when you say im going to prescribe you medication all you're saying is i'm going you a hall pass so you can do your drugs prescribing i'm dealing to you in trouble thats all that means! whats the difference tell me what the difference is! what because you changed the words put doctor in front of your name and that supposed to do what that doesn't mean anything you changed the words and they both steal mean same thing and you're supposed to be a doctor and you can't comprehend this are you just choose not to see what it really is because if you're a doctor or a shooting I'm sorry like I said shrink doctor you can change the word still the same thing right like I said if you can't see it you're stupid stupid doctor Oh I'm sorry I meant shrink Bro Just because you throw the word diagnose medication and Pharmacy in the paragraph doesn't mean it's not drugs and doesn't mean you're not a drug dealer cuz you are all your doctor degree means is you got a license to sell drugs and get away with it that's what it is So miss me with the bullsht You're not a jug deal yes you are That's exactly what you are im not Saying that it's A bad thing necessarily I'm going to call her what it is So stop dancing around what you are cuz that's what you are You're legalized drug dealer Just like Adderall was legalized meth it might as well be Because if you've taken Them Before You would have to take both of them To know That just They pretty much do the same thing one's just a little more Tweaky! Doesn't matter which what you put in there if you're more or less still doing the same things that you would be doing if you were on the other one then it might as well be the same damn thing bruh stop acting like you're not a drug dealer cuz you are You people just have your pinkies up and Heads so far up your a55es And use fancy words And you have DR Before your name that now all of a Sudden its something different Because you said it is because you have doctor in front of your name awesome you have doctor in front of your name still doesn't change the fact you're Drug dealer facts bruh

I was prescribed Wellbutrin 300 and straterra 40 daily for adhd after going to treatment for addiction issues. However, I was functional user of Adderall and illegal amphetamines for years in school I got straight As. Now everyone is watching me, mom friends etc… so the side effects of WB and straterra are sexual dysfunction and intrusive thoughts. The side effect of Adderall are I fucking love taking it and it helps me lose weight, focus, get stuff done, and brings out a gay side of myself that I usually don’t show if I’m unmedicated. Therapy and such have indicated I’m suppressing myself and amphetamines help me not to hate myself. I’m pretty lost in this.

I have either PFS or PSSD. My genitals are completely numb, physically deformed, shrivelled. It feels as if I have no body part down there anymore. This has been going on for years. Some have it even worse, with their whole bodies breaking down. In what universe is this an acceptable risk? I think part of the reason why nobody wants to believe it, is because a small risk of chemical castration for life IS unacceptable. So it’s easier to just say we are crazy and PSSD/PFS doesn’t exist.

Oh my God... Just because they're "different" molecules and because there are "correct" doses, doesn't mean that Adderall doesn't act almost EXACTLY THE SAME. I was a meth addict, and if I was ignorant to the fact that Adderall isn't meth, I would never ever be able to tell you which drug I was on, either meth or Adderall. Also it is absolutely disgusting that 6 year olds get prescribed Adderall. Some of my best friends growing up were on Adderall or Ritalin. It fcuked them up sooo bad, and now that they've been adults for a long time, it fcuked them up for life. and every single one of them became meth addicts. get off your high horse. Trying to justify prescribing hard to children by saying "it's a different molecule then meth" is so backwards. That's like saying "you guys say I'm prescribing oxycontin to children, and I'm a drug dealer because I prescribe oxycontin" just to go and say "I don't prescribe oxycontin, I prescribe Heroin. Guys these are two different molecules, so they aren't the same thing" when everyone knows that oxies, and heroin are both hardcore opioids/opiates... Meth, and Adderall are both hardcore amphetamines/stimulants... Honestly Adderall is waaaay better than the meth going around these days, I'd much rather have Adderall, and that's coming from an addict in recovery. So that should tell you something

Lexapro 5 mg for only 3 weeks caused sexual dysfunction that persisted for 3 years now. 1st week was eradication of libido, 2nd week I lost morning wood and spontaneous erections, ED, then the 3rd week my genitalia went numb. Quit cold turkey because my doctor said it was safe… withdrawal symptoms continued. Anorgasmia, decreased libido, pain, ED… doctors ignored all my symptoms and blamed it on anxiety… never was. This is more common than they think. They literally prescribe antidepressants for erectile dysfunction… because it decreases sensation and makes orgasms difficult and dulled down, nothing that’s actually therapeutic.

Dr. Amen and the entire "mold toxicity" industry are a band of predators. They take people who have true illnesses and injuries and prey upon their fears. In desperation for a cure, people who are truly hurting will do anything for resolution of their pain. Dr. Amen and all the other "mold toxicity" doctors have found a ubiquitous (ever present) substance (mycotoxins) on which the blame everything. But correlation is not causation. This is one of the most basic principles of science. And it's how DYSfunctional medicine doctors work. They will take your health problems and milk you financially with countless labs/diagnostics until they find a "cause" (other than something valid). They then treat you with unvalidated products, procedures, and off-label pharmaceuticals (like Shoemaker, using statins to "treat" mold toxicity - which cause they EXACT side effects they claim are caused by "mold toxicity." They will destroy you financially - telling you that you MUST DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU OWN because it's contaminated with mycotoxins or "you're just taking the mold with you" if you move. The only reason this "may work" for some people is that they are leaving behind triggers of a traumatic past. Yet, later on they will be "affected by mold again" and repeat the process because MOLD ISN'T THE PROBLEM. *Trauma* is the problem, and destroying everything you own doesn't get rid of it. I spent a lifetime working in Health food stores and following these "progressive medicine" leaders only to lose everything until I realized that it's one big massive scam. Don't waste your money on these predators, get psychological help. I don't mean that in a condemning way, I mean that as: that is how I stopped having panic attacks at the mere sight of water damaged buildings. That's how I was able to stop living in my car after mold doctors told me my apartment (which tested negative for mold with air sampling, despite the urine testing bullsh*t that I wasted sooooo much on. That's how I was able to move into an apartment with an obvious history of flooding and be just fine. I still have trauma. But it's not because of mold. It's be because I lost thousands and thousands of dollars trying to treat a problem that didn't exist. I had over 100 hyperbaric oxygen treatments, I had so many IV therapies that my veins are now scarred. I spent thousands on supplements. I completely lost my sanity (and with that, everyone I loved) as I became completely terrified of (literally) air because "mycotoxins are everywhere." Save your money. Save your life. Stay away from ALL of these Snake oil salesmen. Remember that Dave Asprey isn't a doctor. He sells mold free coffee. Look at all the lawsuits and history of fraud on the quackwatch site. Educate yourself. Don't be played. MY "mold toxicity" occurred after I was hit by a car and suffered a very real brain injury (following a history of TBIs and multiple concussions), plus very real whiplash. Unfortunately, I didn't have the cognitive capacity to realize that these aren't caring medical practitioners. They are businessmen. Don't get played. If any of your doctors even suggest that they can cure your "toxicity" with *their* branded supplements: RUN.
