This Torah portion carries a profound message for all of humanity: the Torah was intended for everyone, not only for the Jewish people, as some might think. HaShem created us all, and entrusted the Jews with the responsibility of safeguarding and sharing the wisdom of the Torah, thereby preserving the world. This is so that we may all work together to free ourselves from the negative influence of society's prevailing mindset. I hope we can all awaken, embrace goodness, set aside ego, and, through that, bring forth the arrival of the Messiah.

The torah does not tell us what the tree of life is. It does tell us what the other tree is, its the "tree of knowledge of good and evil". Since even Eve was confused and tricked of what tree was in the center of the garden, her knowledge of what she thought was right, not what she absolutely knew was right, got her kicked out of the garden. Knowledge of good and evil is not enough to get you to do the right thing, to pick the correct fruit. Heck even when you know something is bad you might do it. So, gobbling up knowledge of whats good or evil is not what brings you life. Adam gained the knowledge he was naked but it was god who clothed him. Since the Torah does not tell you what the tree of life is, what it means. Un like the tree of The Knowledge of good and evil. You have to find it and not be tricked by knowledge. Knowledge alone does not give you life. Seek life, where it comes from, where its going, how to heal it keep it, make it happy. This is a great series.

Excellent shiur Aleph Beta. I find it interesting that in a parshat about happiness, most of the passages discussed (Deuteronomy) are all about sin. What is original sin, actually? How is it different in the Jewish perspective as opposed to the Christian one? Those who bless Israel shall be blessed, and those who curse Israel shall be cursed. So sayeth the Lord, your G-d.

You are very deftly detouring from understanding the Torah which is nigh unto Israel. Dissecting concepts and rearranging them to tell a unique and INACCURATE NARRATIVE of the tree of life and tree of knowledge of good and evil is not an innocuous or innocent pursuit. Also the smug arrogance evincing certitude is harmful to youth!

Good lessons ! I think that the written Torah and ultimate clarification by Tanach, constitutes The tree of life. By eating from tree of knowledge of good & evil; mankind must obey written Torah. Why ? Hoshea 6:7; Iyyov 31:33 cite sin of Adam, who first sinned by adding and subtracting to HaShem’s command ! 5 verses in Deuteronomy and about two dozen in Tanach FORBID this ! By do what HaShem truly says, we repair this breach (Isaiah 58:12) between us and our Creator. And then HaShem annuls the covenant with death ! Moshe striking rock instead of raising his staff and speaking to the rock is this sin of Adam ! And Moshe was punished !
@ronaldsinger944517 күн бұрын
I believe that one sin demonstrated by Adam is the exhortation from the very beginning, to heed God’s warnings not to add, subtract fro His WRITTEN TORAH. God knew He’d give Israel His Torah and wanted us to know the existential urgent mission to obey but we and you and everyone make Adam’s sin with total abandon and without conscience or even consciousness !

Rav Fohrman’s presentation excites the truth seeker in us. Does he discuss Hoshea 6:7 and Iyyov 31:33 in regard to Adam’s sin of replacing HaShem’s command with his own?

Notice Moses has compassion and mercy for females, Jethros daughters at the well, Zelophehads inheritance, intercession for Miriam... but the blasphemer was male. I wonder if that had any influence, compassion for men in distress?

I disagree, having been fed those lies by the devil, that it's somehow good to rebel against G-d, somehow beneficial to disobey the first food law. This is prideful deception from the adversary. I prefer to obey the God who loves. Eve wasn't paying close attention to her surroundings and was rebelling against her husband too. Two trees, not the same tree, or why must they be expelled from the garden? Tree of Life is much taller; they could not reach it so easily.

It makes me sad to hear you site Ferguson, MO as the place that racially profiles black people. Michael Brown was the thief who stole from a convivence store. He attacked the officer who tried to stop him. It didn't have a thing to do with his skin color. It was because he stole from the store. I am a white woman who used to live in a black neighborhood. I knew to stay secluded, not because of skin color, but because of a few immoral, bad people who lived nearby. I live in a mixed color neighborhood now. I don't care what color people are. I care about their character. Please do not perpetrate the race baiting. God created all of us and we all need Him to stay on the right track.

@@paulawallace8784 Respectfully, soon God's chosen will know Yeshua, Jesus, was their Messiah...whose stripes and sacrifice will save all who call on His name. Jesus IS God, the Son of God, the Holy Spirit all-in-one. Saying that He was NOT is why we Jews went through centuries of tribulation. But when those who have not acknowledged Him as their Lord and Savior finally proclaim Him as their Messiah... the thousand years reign of Yeshua will begin and the Great Tribulation that is to come.... will finally end. I pray everyone that has not understood this truth... will finally understand they were lied to by the "politicians of the day"; the chief priests and Pharisees.... and call on Yeshua Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name, amen.

This was truly one of the best series I have heard. So many questions asked and answered. Imu's persistence in not letting Rabbi off the hook on some of these threads was amazing... I was so caught up and memorized in what I was hearing in all the side stories that i sometimes forgot which question we were answering. Definitely a series I will listen to a few more times! Great job. I might even join the patrons. 😉

This video confirms a thought I was just having about the word of God. God's word is not a single word... It is the logos. Another word for logos would be "discourse". Discourse- A formal, lengthy treatment of a subject, either written or spoken. God's word is the whole story of our existence from beginning to end. When I think about this in the context of my own life, I think about my journey to my belief in God. If I were to tell you any detail out of the context of my whole life, you might chalk up my inevitable belief in God to superstition or a lack of intelligence. But if you were walking along with me the whole time, you would be forced to realize the majesty and the glory that brought me to this belief in a reasonable progression. This leads me to believe that reading the Bible out of context is can be very dangerous... It's literally not about the bits and pieces. It's about the story. P.S. I wish I had knowledge of the Hebrew language because it seems like this understanding would only be evident in Hebrew.
