Great video! how were you deciding to camp? Also, why did you go to West Africa?
@80lives2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Glad you like it. Camping depends on too many variables to describe in a comment. Every day is different, everyday circumstances change and you just simply adapt to them each day the way you see fit on the spot. As far as West Africa, well, aside from being an incredibly diverse and fascinating part of the world that I couldn't live without visiting, it was part of my cycling trip around the world and part of it was cycling the entire African continent. This video reflects only half of the second half of Africa. Check my Africa I and Africa II videos, to see the rest.

@@aleddavies680 again you are asking me something that could take me a book to describe hahah. Did you get harassed by police in Egypt? I have followed a couple of people travelling across Africa. One guy just recently was continually followed and often fed a whole lot of crap about roads being "too dangerous to ride". Another a few years back was actually body-slammed off his bike by Egyptian police in Suez, had his phone content deleted and then put in a cell for two days, all for no real reason. I would avoid Egypt for cycling at all costs.
@80lives2 жыл бұрын
Not at all. If anything, we got nothing but the best of treatment from Police men in Egypt. Yes, they do claim that some areas are very dangerous and because of their concern they inform you that you'll be escorted, and they escort you for as long as you need it at 15 km/h. They were never forceful, let alone violent. They were probably bored that they had to stick with us riding bicycles while they were sweltering in their patrol at 45C. As for the second event you describe, well, anything can happen anywhere you go in the world both good, bad and neutral. My advice would be to never be intimidated just because something bad happens to someone. That's really not an objective way to see reality. I've had really ugly encounters along my way in many different country, most of which I describe in my blog stories, but by no means I'd tell you to avoid a country for that. What's more, and especially seeing these stories from a distance, you don't get to contemplate that for every "bad" situation, there's an avalanche of incredibly wonderful experiences that you go through, and usually the ratio is 1000000:1 . Likewise, if I rave about how amazing one country is just because I experience nothing bad and you get the impression that it's all good there, that wouldn't be a reason to drop your guard. That wouldn't say anything else other than what I experience there at a moment in time, and it'd be as subjective as taking bad experiences as a deterrent. Security is a superstition! Go anywhere you like and use common sense and wise judgement and you'll be fine, even when you get to go through some bumps. :)

Fantastic travels. I presume that you travelled east from Lhasa, following the Yangtze. We’re you monitored by the Chinese PSB, or did you take steps to evade monitoring along the route? Camping out often I presume. The Tibetan kids are wonderful. [edit] OK, it seems that I got your route reversed. You are heading up onto the high and flat plateau in the snows.
