Balsa dust never used to bother me but it does now! Shame it's so loud but I guess you don't have it running for that long at a time. Maybe a foot switch could make things a bit easier to operate it only when you start sanding.

Hi Chris, I have not been flying for a while, I am hoping to fly next year again but I do have the freewing MK9 Spitfire it's a dream to fly just make sure you add in the slight up elevator as per the manual I just checked my transmitter and I have a extra 2 click more than the manual of up elevator (that's more than lightly me not measuring it correctly in the first place?). To cut a long story short I also had a Horizon MK14 1.2M spit downward leg miles to high, so cut the throttle to help lose height going into my final turn before landing, I didn't have enough speed and I had a wing tip stall (RIP). Now getting back to your Spit to me the Freewing Spit flew a lot better than the Horizon one did but that may just be me. Providing you can miss the bloody tree's and make sure you carry enough speed into the turns and also when you come into land don't cut the throttle until you are on the ground not like me on my first landing I cut the throttle while still a very good few inches off the ground, dropped like a stone lucky no damage done now on saying this I can say 110% you will LOVE flying it. Just asking were all the transfers already applied I had to apply all of mine I did customised mine with my initials as part of the call sign
@DadsRCHangar23 күн бұрын
Hi Steven, the stickers came applied or I would have put DRCH on the fuse. What you say is consistent with what I have been reading as well, flaps but power all the way and about keeping speed on the turns. With the HK spitfire, I was that great to fly, just me with bad distance judgment. Bloomin tree. What sort of flight time do you get, this sais you can use a 6s 5000. Had one downside so far that the port side alieron servo arm had been put on differently to the starboard. So I will have to take them out of the blue box and have them separate in the RX. Putting the wing together makes you realise How big the Spit is. 😄

Chris...CONGRATS! As foam Spitfires go, you can't do better than that. Big, Beautiful Plane! Fantastic flying airplane, but requires some skill to takeoff and land well...like a Spitfire! What did that lovely lady say that used to ferry them to the squadrons..."She's a lady in the air but a bit#h on the ground!". Lol. Not too bad off grass...much harder off of pavement. Certainly worth taking the time to master. You're going to love it. I adore mine! One thing...be sure and put a thin coat of flat water based poly around that hatch to keep the paint from chipping. Test a small bit on the bottom first. It should almost be undetectable when dry.

Heya Adam, I have been building her indoors, off camera. She is a big girl for sure, I am excited to get her in the air. The little spit is a great flyer, but bigger the better. I guess it will be the landings that will test me to the max, I still have my trainer to practice more landings. 😁. Only a small fault I have found and that was one of the servo arms had been put on the wrong spline, so when mid, they were not the same, I will have to by pass the blue box so I can have individual control of each Aileron separately, rather than dig out the servo. Mind you a lot of people say they get rid of the box all together. Have a great week ahead to you all. 🫡

@DadsRCHangar no Chris did not use flaps for take off. I would only use take off flaps for short runway's. I always use flaps for landing as you can come in with more power on which gives you greater authority to put them back up and go around again easier if needs be 👍

Usually, when I sheet a wing with balsa, I lay the first sheet lengthwise and parallel with the leading edge as I find it conforms to the rib profile better. I then lay the second sheet parallel and along the trailing edge and fill in the centre sheeting in the most economical way. Different folks>different strokes.

I learned a new trick reccently. The Asian builders make paper tubes to guide the servo wires in the wing so they do not 'fly' around inside. I did that in my latest builds and think it is a very very good idea.

I’m sure you figured this out on the canopy, but you were trying to lay the rounded/angled bottom on a flat plan. Imagine having a triangle, lay one of the short sides in the table and look down on it. Mark the length of that short side. Then lift the triangle and try to match the long side to those marks. It does not match. That’s the deal with flat plans with top and side views. It possible that the canopy needs to be trimmed, but I would not do that until you are ready to install it. Crack on.
@DadsRCHangarАй бұрын
I have not finished the canopy yet, I need to make some negative formers, as I see that my front fuse is not the correct shape yet. Once this is done, I will trim a little at a time till she fits. Congratulations, youve beaten me, I've been following a lot of KZbin RC builders gathering intelligence in the hope that I will learn enough to make my first ever RC build the Nijhuis 17ft Lancaster a little easier, there have been many lessons learned along the way, most of the time lessins I'd challenged myself to solve before seeing the solution chosen by the builder. Often I come up with my own workable ideas, that may or may not coincide but its confidence building to me to know thst i might stand a smidgin of a chance of success with my own build, but you have totally stumped me with this canopy, i have a few ideas on how i might tackle this if faced with a similar issue but they all revolve around being very hacky solutions that would leave me considerably less than happy. Your canopy issue has left me floundering really so i applaud you for providing me with my first ever issue that i wouldn't be able to solve to my own personal satisfaction. Now that takes some doing and you've no idea how much I'm looking forward to deeing your canopy solution. Personally I'd probably be looking to find someone to make me a new one which to me would be kinda cheating. Anyway, on another note an alternative approach to skinning the wing that i might choose would be to use the dry white glue iron on method I've seen used by the lijes of Mark Croucher, no need for weights, just a thought. Thank you for the challenge and the greatly informative and entertaining shows. Still masdiveky enjoying them Cheers James PS sorry for the long winded post, thiugyt yiu deserved to know lol
