You’re a CRIMINALLY underrated analyst on here. I’ve watched other breakdowns of the sequel trilogy and they weren’t nearly as clearsighted or well-researched

The lack of emotion is the biggest part for me, the fights are just there for the e sake of having a lightsaber fight

For that "anime leap" thing, there was in the phantom menace that "force speed" where Obi Wan and Qui Gon just absolulely dash away from droids. Force speed/dash is such a cool concept that is just used once and then forgotten about.

I don’t know what my favorite saber duel is, but I can tell you my favorite sound effect in Star Wars is a lightsaber blade against pure beskar. More specifically, the Darksaber blade against pure beskar. That ring is just **chef’s kiss** heavenly…

This is all great and all, but one of the biggest issues is just that the fights don't make sense, nobody does anything that adds up, not to mention the great knife disappearance and all the other glaring issues of the fight choreography itself with everything being 1v1's just a bunch of times, 4 opponents? They will approach 1 by 1, while in the prequels, if there were 3 opponents, they would actually fight all 3 at the same time and use clever tricks and moves to win, not just have the people wait their turn.

I find it so fucking stupid how Rey got a YELLOW lightsaber. Every lightsaber colour has its own meaning, and in case you didn't know, yellow lightsabers were given to extremely powerful jedi! And rey wouldn't stand a chance against a true jedi master. Hell she couldn't even beat the younglings. She's a bitch.

At the end of the day, they sacrifice good fighting scenes for quicker production. Actors don't put in the effort and are afraid of getting hurt. I havent watched movies in a while, but my eyes hurt watching any fighting scene with all the cuts and camera tricks to try to make up for lack of actual combat skills.

Sabine legitimately feels like a self-insert from one of the writers. Which is hilarious because she is widely regarded as the worst and least likeable character in the show. Idk why after seeing all the hate Rey got for being such a Mary Sue in her movies, their brilliant idea was to do it again, but this time also make the character a total asshole. What a great idea.

The reason they're always fatigued is because they're bums. Nowhere near the level of Master let alone knight. Rey and kylo were a joke. Pong krell smashes them.

My favorite lightsaber duel was the Cloud City one between Luke and Vader. It has narrative purpose, builds up to the most iconic moment in Star Wars history, and the fighting, although more slowly paced, is great. The emotional weight behind it is fantastic; you see that Luke wants to avenge Obi-Wan, his father, and his friends, before his world is turned upside down by the end.
@rinoking88
@rinoking88 4 күн бұрын
There's way too many of them. They don't have any narrative significance. They are given to characters who shouldn't have them (e.g. Yoda). And the entire purpose of them is to sell toys and video games and other junk. There should be maximum 1 lightsaber duel per movie, no more. It should be confined to Jedi vs. Sith scenarios with a red lightsaber vs. a normal one (preferably green or blue) and narratively significant as the climax of the movie's good vs. evil storyline (Which could send me on another rant.. Ever since Star Wars went down this trendy moral-ambiguity path the movies have been crap. Star Wars should be about simple adventure tales and good vs. evil. A clear good guy, a clear bad guy, and good triumphs. good vs. evil types of stories are a novelty these days, as every hollywood movie feels the need to outdo the last in terms of how deep and edgy the existentialist message is. No Star Wars movie has been good since the 1980s. All crap. Revenge of the Sith is a little better than the others -- a 5.5/10 so not saying much -- so still a very mediocre movie that is only good because the original trilogy exists. If the original trilogy did not exist, it would have no narrative weight whatsoever, and no one would care about the 10 minute lightsaber fight between Anakin and Obi Wan).

The duel vs Luke was meant to let the audience observe that he really wasn't there. Everything about it was screaming, "He's not there you dumbass Sith. You're just blinded by anger!" You think Obiwan or Yoda would have fell for some shit like that? That was one of the more interesting parts of the movies for me because they were so careful that he didn't touch anything.

its a shame that disney had to touch star wars at all with its grubby little hands. Now, i've had how the fights transpired (or, how they were meant to transpire) explained to me, and they sounded like they would be amazing to watch. But then, I watched them, and was extremely disappointed. Now, don't get me wrong, both Kylo and Ray are very inexperienced compared to literally anybody else who had a lightsaber fight in the entire rest of the movies, but the way they were *meant* to fight was supposed to be a lot more loose, more visceral. Two people who barely knew which way the pointy end was, but fought their hearts out nonetheless. It just wasn't portrayed well at all and thats a huge shame. Kylo kind of got the emotional parts down, though his role was essentially just an angry toddler so thats not that big of an accomplishment, and I agree with cap here that Ray doesn't have a single redeeming feature. I like the actors, but they obviously weren't given enough time or pushed enough to make a good enough impact in the actual movies. Hell, side characters that had no place having the spotlight were given more screen time for useless little tidbits that nobody cared about than any of the actual duels. It's just... gross... They axed the Jedi Outcast series, for this?

honestly, i think it was the lack of the formalized teaching of lightsaber combat in the sequals really, really, dragged down the quality of the duels.

My two favorite lightsaber fight scenes are a tie between the Obi-wan and Maul duel in Rebels, and Mauls duel with Ashoka in Season 7 of Clone Wars. Both fights short, simple, but pack meaning and emotion behind them. The action behind them literally drawing the sabers out before the fight even begins shows a level of care and detail the Fanfiction Trilogy fails to capture at all.

My personal favorite is dooku vs anikin and obi wan in clone wars season 6. Dooku knew his opponents had opposite strengths and weaknesses. Thus he managed to escape unscathed by forcing anikin, form 5 user to stay defensive, while continually enticing obi wan, a form 3 user, to attack.

I'm not sure what you mean by lack of professional training in swordfighting. In the Kylo vs Rey fight we got to see some masterfully done reverse-grip swordsmanship with his longsword-saber just like they did in the medieval era.

My favorite duel is hands down Obi Wan vs Darth Maul... From Rebels. One of the shortest duels in the entire franchise, but so much emotional weight, and every single movement they take has meaning behind it, from the build up, squaring off, the psychological warfare, then the quick clash and it's over.

Obi-Wan vs Ani/Vader on Mustafar quick start pauses for emotional build up. And like you the pain of "You were my brother." Which is Obi-Wan's failure. He needed a father figure not a brother. If Quigon had lived it might have been different.
