Comparing Star Wars to Anime is disgusting tbh. Anime is Anime and Star Wars is Star Wars. Disney making a Star wars-Anime Series is the biggest BS ever. I think the Best fight is Anakin vs Doku at Pt. 2., because of the smoothness of swinging and the concentrated Emotions to the Fight.

For me its not only the lack of form, but also the very little danger lightsabers serve in new movies in the prequels, all of the jedi and sith fought using their own unique styles, meanwhile in new movies they just mindlessly swing at eachother and hold their arms out on occasion, and even if they somehow beat the other person, it doesnt matter because "somehow, palpatine returned"

Another thing that prequel lightsaber duel did a lot better than Disney is the distance. The actors in the prequel stand close to each other when fighting, they are in range that their lightsaber can reach their opponents. This makes the fight more personal and carries the weight of danger. Like they actually need to block or else they will get cut in half. In a lot of Disney’s duels, the actors swing their lightsaber while the opponent is standing out of reach. I guess they want to minimize the risks of injuring the actor, but it also makes the fight less intense and each saber swing insignificant. The slash also needs to be super wide, easy to telegraph too so that accidents are minimized. All of this is due to actors/actresses lacks of skills. Hayden and Ewan trained like crazy and we can see how precise and tight their choreography was.

A lightsaber according to the EU actually produces a subtle gyroscopic effect that makes the motion of the blade fluid but unpredictable. It’s one reason only force sensitives can use the lightsaber - because you need force insight to predict the path of the blade.

Best duel to me, who grew up watching star wars in the 90's before the prequels were a thing, will always be Luke vs Vader in Return of the Jedi, it's the most emotionally laden duel in all 9 films along with Anakin vs Obi Wan in ROTS. Also, Green lightsaber master race.

I have 2 complaints with the prequel duels And that is, I personally think they aren’t long enough, and I wish they used the LED sabers from the sequels for more realistic lighting And yes I know that didn’t have the LED sabers back then

I thought the prequel duals were awful. Spectacular passionless guff. The throne room fight between Luke and Vader is so much more powerful because the fight contains the story beats, the emotion. The fight between Obi wan and Anakin is just over produced dancing for 30 minutes. Are the visual effects cool? Hell yeah. Does it advance the plot? Not for 30 minutes, no. Do I give a fuck about either of them? Fuck no.

Some people like prolonged action scenes with lots of flash. Some don't. Longer lightsaber duels are there for the former but bore the latter. But the original trilogy was inspired heavily by the works of Kurosawa, where the fighting is a brief crescendo after long-simmering tension; where the audience is allowed to wonder and speculate how it's going to go. The physical business shown by Qui Gon, Maul, and Obi Wan in the first prequel film is a solid example of this, with the long pause building tension before the sudden payoff. All good action scenes reveal something about the characters and/or advance the plot, and the ratio of story beats to time spent on the action often shapes how meaningful they end up feeling. The prequel films have extremely prolonged, highly choreographed fight scenes that advance or reveal fairly little. The newer films are actually much tighter overall in that regard, and do a pretty good job showing off character (Ren beating his chest stands out in my memory).

The in lore reasons why the sequal fights are so slow and fatigue is because Rae and Kylo haven't mastered the force, unlike the Jedis such as Anakin and Obi-Wan the force is what has those from the prequels do the shit they do because they use the force to not get tired

I'm going to go with the obvious answer, the anakin vs obi Wan is my absolut favorite. First time I watched that I was at the edge of my seat, they weree going so fast ad so much was invested in this very moment. I love revenge of the sith. Also, the reason I don't like the sequel duels is because they are swinging weightless lightsabers like real swords. I get Rey, she is untrained, but Kylo was technically trained by Palpatine. Shouldn't he be a lot better?

You forgot how Lightsaber Duels Suck Now when they need to digitally edit out weapons and make them disappear so the main character(Rie) doesn't die.

Some movie editing cuts can drive me bananas especially when it’s super unnecessary. It’s really jarring and immersion breaking. These new duels keep going for edgy clips and they suck. The new stuff feels like people are making random story’s while using Star Wars themed characters.

I’m just here to see people really see how cool prequels were. Maybe not all writing is perfect, but you can see why I at 14 had time of my life watching it
