A couple of reactions to your comments. When I lived in Europe, I found that you could get Mexican food ingredients in areas where there was a high concentration of oil industry workers. Apparently, expats from Texas created the demand in Norway. You might try the Aberdeen area. When we initially moved to the U.K.. we lived in the Northwood suburb of Greater London. There is a large NATO naval command center there so there were many American and Canadian expats living in the area. We took a grill with us. At the time, in the late 1970s, barbecuing was not a thing in the UK. A local butcher was familiar with U.S. cuts of meat. I got some sirloin steaks from him, paying a fairly exorbitant price. I was able to find charcoal, although not briquettes, at a local iron monger, along with some charcoal lighter that smelled like jet fuel. The next weekend, I fired up the grill and began cooking the steaks. Shortly thereafter I heard the neighbors’ little boy exclaim “Mummy, the Americans are burning rubbish again.”

Hopefully, this administration will start putting in healthier guidelines for foods that we've all been screaming for forever. Also, California had a lot higher prices than the rest of our country. Groceries are pretty inexpensive in North Carolina comparatively. You definitely have healthier choices over there, more pure food without additives. Kennedy has been put in that position and has a lot of work to do. Thank you, great comparisons!

Hello Zach & Annie, My wife and I have moved two years ago to Edinburgh from New Jersey (east coast U.S.A.) where we lived for 32 years. I am American and my wife is Scottish and had lived in the since 1992 and now it's my turn to adapt. We are retired so that may be why I find Scotland so idyllic but the pace here is much toned down. Yes the steak pies and fish & chips are great but I miss "duck sauce" and sweet Italian sausage but the bangers are fantastic as is the food in general. One of the biggest thing about the differences here is through out the country you'll know when you have left a village there is much less urban sprawl. Back in New Jersey towns and areas seemed to blend into one. Also Edinburgh is very walkable and having a bus pass you don't really need a car and the "Enterprise Car Club" make it easy to rent hourly with their cars scattered throughout. I find myself apologizing for Trump and keeping quiet about politics.

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your story. There are certainly things we miss from the US, but I agree with you on the urban sprawl and the fish and chips! 🤣 We love how walkable so much of Scotland is and you are right, you can get almost anywhere using the public transport. Thank you again and all the best!

I'm not sure if you know this; recently I looked up why we (in Canada) say 'aluminum' and over there they say 'aluminium'. Apparently North Americans dropped the second 'i' as it was easier to pronounce and easier to spell but both are accepted as correct. Another term I just can't get used to hearing is 'sack' for a bag. :) 'Pudding' in a Pink Floyd song they say 'you can't have your pudding, if you don't eat your meat. I'm sure you know that one. Washing up liquid? Tatties for potatoes. I like that one.

Another great idea my granny had was a curtain rail above her front door and on cold, snowy nights she would slide her heavy woollen curtain across her the inside of her front door and you will be surprised at how much warmer the entrance / small hallway was in her little house. Obviously it was like a double tartan travel blanket and about 2 inches longer than her front door and acted as a draught excluder for her front door. Very toasty. Plus longer curtains upstairs to again act as a draft excluder on your windows. We use to have winter and summer curtains for cold weather and summer weather seasons.

Having stayed two months in 2023 and three months in 2024 in Aberdeen, we found the variety of fruit and the quality less than we get at home in Eureka, CA, 270 miles north of San Francisco. Since we never eat in restaurants, we cannot comment on professionally prepared foods, but ingredients are similar and we enjoyed our food. The best tasting food we consumed was the salmon. Delicate, sweet and tender it spoiled me for what we purchase at our local Costco. My husband does all the cooking and LOVED the induction stove. So, after 7 visits, we can’t wait to get back. 👩🏻🦳👨🏻🦳❤️🏴

I love my tesco club card and my morrisons club card and my Sainsbury's nectar points card. Whenever I go to tesco i use the self scanner it tells you how much your shopping will total as you go around the shop then every few months they send you money off vouchers. The more points you collect the higher your money off vouchers. I think tescos is the only store that has the self scanner not sure if another supermarkets are planning anything similar. I really like the scanner because it tells me how much i'm spending and how many club card card points i'm collecting. The only downside to the tesco self scanner is if you're doing a big shop you can't take it to the manned till you have to go to the self checkout which is ok unless you have items that needs to be checked like alcohol or other items that may need to be approved by a member of staff. In my experience using the self scanner and using the self checkout has been quite easy all you have to do is go to the self checkout use your scanner scan your basket on the scanner on to the checkout push a couple of buttons if the total on the checkout matches the scanner you press the total then pay you don't need to unload your shopping then reload then off you go. Other supermarkets should adopt this idea in their supermarkets.

I'm new to your channel, have watched several videos and subscribed. You may possibly now be familiar with the sites (sights) I indicate here, though others might not. First, there is another Milkman just down the street from the one you visited. While the steps of Fleshmarket Close run up the right side of Brewhemia (big bar & eats), there are the Scotsman Steps on the left side. This circular stair leads up to the North Bridge. A few meters from there is the North Bridge Arcade, which leads to the top of Cockburn Street...and the Milkman. You ask for suggestions, so here are a couple (get your Google Map fired up). Apologies for the length - but hopefully useful to someone. This fabulous walk - surely one of the very best - includes Georgian architecture, modern art, a cemetery (if you choose), Dean Village, a river walk, Stockbridge Village (including St. Stephen Street and Circus Lane), the Stockbridge Colonies and the Royal Botanic Garden...before strolling back up the New Town hill to the train station. Start @ Moray Place in the New Town > Ainslie Place > Randolph Crescent (the world's longest connected run of Georgian buildings). Upon reaching Queensferry Street turn right and go out onto Dean Bridge. Have a look on the near side, which looks toward Stockbridge and Fife. Cross to the other side of the street and have a look down on Dean Village. From here go to the Galleries of Modern Art (Modern One, Modern Two). You can (1) cross the bridge and continue along Queensferry Road > (L) Dean Path > (R) Ravelston Terrace > (L) Belford Road (20 min.)... or (2) return to start of bridge and take Belford Road (not Bell's Brae, which leads directly to Dean Village) until you reach the galleries (15 min.) Modern One has a fine cafe, with outdoor eating on nice days. (In 49 years I have yet to visit Modern Two! Adjacent to Two is Dean Cemetery, one of Edinburgh's finest.) Next destination: Dean Village via the Water of Leith Walkway. Exit the Modern One Cafeteria (i.e., back of gallery) into parking lot > opening in wall > take stairs down to the river walk. Turn left and proceed to Dean Village. There are other routes via backtracking to Dean Path or taking the steps down at Belford Bridge (adjacent to Modern Two), but for the sake of ease and more adventure, the Modern One steps are the way to go. You will also encounter an Antony Gormley figure in the water (he created the Angel of North that appears in your Finnegan video). After Dean Village, walk the waterway under the Dean Bridge to Stockbridge, where there are great independent shops and eats on both sides of the bridge. Go up Circus Lane and St. Stephen Street. Go to Lannan Bakery for a treat, then up Saxe Coburg Street into Saxe Coburg Place, at the end of which are steps leading down to Glenogle Place and the Stockbridge Colonies. These former workers homes line both sides of short streets that are dead-end due to being terminated by the Water of Leith. Note: Downstairs tenants enter from one side of the building; upstairs from the other. This means their addresses are different streets. They also both have front lawns and need never see their neighbour. Exit via either end of the street to go to the Royal Botanic Garden - West Gate via Arboretum Place, East via Inverleith Row (B901) The West Gate has a large visitor centre with gift shop and eatery. Plan your garden walk in advance - in can be confusing once on the grounds. Exit the garden from either side: From West go back to Stockbridge and up the hill via Kerr Street to North-West Circus Place (i.e., the main Stockbridge street). From the East turn right and walk over the bridge. From there take either main road - left leads to Broughton Street (shops & eats), right to Dundas (which becomes Hannover Street > Princes Street). Either puts you in the vicinity of the train and bus stations. Try also: The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill - Stroll across the Meadows from Old Town via Bruntsfield Links to Bruntsfield (shops & eats). Brunch at Honeycomb Co. - Stroll further along to the clock at Morningside at which point there is a Y junction ahead, with the Hermitage Bar (nice eats) in the centre. - Take Braid Road (left side of bar) up to and over Hermitage Road to entrance of the Hermitage of Braid (on left side). This is a surprisingly wild ravine with the Braidburn (Burn = stream) running through it. This is a walk-in route only. - Upon reaching the Hermitage (building) take the path to the right side of it to go up atop Blackford Hill, which affords a great view of the south side of the city. The Observatory on the hill replaced the one on Calton Hill, which due to being in the city centre in the 1800s was impaired due to all the smoke from coal fires including those powering the trains entering and leaving Waverley Station. - If you choose to drive, exit Ring Road to Fairmilehead and continue to Morningside Clock; turn right onto Cluny Avenue, then 3 mins. drive and park at entrance to the park, where there is also a duck pond. The Hermitage is on its other side of the hill, so walk the over. - Once you've had a good look, rather than climb the hill again, exit the ravine at its west end (the direction the front of the Hermitage building faces). There is a coffee shop at the exit. turn R on Braid Road, the R onto Hermitage Road...which turns into Midmar Drive (see also the Midmar Allotments and the Bowling Green) to Cluny Drive. Then R for a few minutes to your car. Got that? Have fun. These are walks one never tires of. Mind, like Samuel Johnson said of London one can apply to Edinburgh. 'When a man is tired of Edinburgh, he is tired of life.'

Great video - we're definitely going to try The Sheep's Heid! In return, may I recommend The Shore, at Leith? It's right down on the quayside, near Malmaison. There's an excellent seafood restaurant as part of it, but the pub is the thing: absolutely tiny, so the real fire is an absolute joy on chilly days. Good selection of whisky and their Panko Breaded Haddock is worth the trip down from Dundee on its own 👌
