For decades, NJ transit has been exploring the possibility of a mid state commuter line that runs through western Monmouth and Ocean counites using the old Blue Comet route. They should be working on restoring that route for commuter service and potential Atlantic City and Philadelphia Express services. The rights of way still exist but are in need of major reconstruction and upgrades to meet modern track standards. It could also take a load of the North East Corridor Line.

What if Amtrak got rid of all its slow trains and replaced them with fast ones in the coming years once railway infrastructure improves and resembles the European model.

The Main Line is a combination of the former Lackawanna Main Line & Erie Main Line. The Erie Main Line ran through Rutherford into downtown Passaic into Paterson. The Lackawanna Main Line ran through Lyndhurst into Passaic Park to Paterson. This changed in the early 1960s with the merger of Erie & Lackawanna and the closure Erie line through downtown Passaic and the closure of the Lackawanna line for the construction of Interstate 80.

The opportunity that has been lost was to, first, move MSG to the Post Office building and then build a new Penn Station on the original site between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. While acknowledging its dazzling history, MSG is a dated facility - a bowl whose seating rises away from the main floor ending up with seats that, I'm guessing, might be the furthest away of any major arena in North America. A new arena is needed for and befitting New York City. Meanwhile, some of the problems with Moynahan Hall (I admit that it is beautiful) is that it doesn't have access to all of the tracks underneath it, it lacks a taxi / bus drop off zone (the existing Penn Station had one running from 32nd to 33rd Streets until MSG closed it off), and it's entrances are on northbound Eighth Avenue when I would bet that most passengers are coming from north of the station - and thus would be better served with a drop-off on southbound Seventh Avenue.

While i don’t think it’s as beautiful as the old penn station, the train hall is beautiful af. Not only that but it still serves its original purpose as a post office/mail sorting tool come extent. Funny how Amtrak got rid of mail cargo but now one of thier main stations is a former post office

the downeaster service from Boston North Station to Brunswick (Maine) should be extended to connect Toronto and Montreal on an electrified line, using leftover northeast regional trains and Amtrak airo trains, bringing more service to both areas, as North Station has a bigger potential capacity.

They need to just pay Dolan to move MSG. I'm sure they can give him enough in tax breaks and subsidies to make it work. The "build around MSG" plan is dumb and untenable.

Not your best video......there's no real information here. What, exactly, are these plans hoping to change? Are there any renderings to show us? I basically heard six minutes of "they want to make it better" without any details or specifics, which I could have learned from a simple headline.

R211s aren't going to the N Q and W because Broadway CBTC and Astoria CBTC isn't coming soon. R211 are going to lines with high ridership and CBTC which are QBL and 8th Avenue Lines. R211s what rumors said are going to the (A) (C) (E) (F) (R) and (SR) Trains. My Predictions for Fleet Model when it's 2025: A: R211 and R179 B: R160 C: R211 and R179 D: R160 E: R160 and R211 F: R160 and R211 G: R160 J: R160 and R179 L: R143 and few R160 M: R160 N: R68, R68A, and some R160 Q: R68, R68A, and some R160 R: R160 and R211 W: R68, R68A, and some R160 Z: R160

The A and C are confirmed by the MTA to get R211. R179s are probably getting kept at Pitkin Yard and they might retrofit with CBTC. R211s are going to lines that have CBTC which are the 8th avenue line and Queens Boulevard Lines also high ridership. I would predict that the R211s will go to the (A) (C) (F) (R) and Rockaway Park Shuttle. The E is a possible to have R211 because of high ridership. They can put R211s on the E instead of the R or so whatever. When the R211s are on that lines E/F/R. The r160s would be displaced and go to the Coney Island Yard and probably the Concourse Yard for the B and D service. R160s can go to some for the N and Q trains. Also the r68s from concourse yard will be displaced from there and placed to Coney Island Yard for the N, Q, and W trains. B and W lines are a part time route. The N/Q/W can get R160s on weekdays. I don't feel that the B and D is getting R211 because the MTA hasn't announced the CBTC on the 6th Avenue Line. 6th Avenue Line would be activated likely in 2030s are so. N/Q/W isn't getting R211 unless they say that Astoria CBTC is getting implemented. Astoria CBTC would likely come in 2030s as well. The (J) (L) (M) (Z) aren't getting R211.

Seems as this may be a kick the can project as both new tunnels are single track which again seems to be the traffic bottleneck problem to begin with isn't it ? It's just rerouting the exit elsewhere

As much as I despise MSG for destroying Penn Station, you gotta admit that it’s probably one of the most transit-oriented event spaces in the world… …still should have been built on top the rail yard though like Hudson Yards is now, and NOT DESTROY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING EVER!

Why do people care if the station is underground. Tokyo and other Japanese stations are mostly underground, and they are fantastic. They just need to do it right and clean the place up.

Other than the homeless taking over the bathrooms and waiting rooms, its actually a very good station. Its spacious. Has multiple places to eat including Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, and McDonalds. Its attached to Gateway Center. Its connected to the NJT Newark Light Rail, PATH, NJT Train, Amtrak, Flix Bus, Greyhound, and NJT Bus. It also has a liquor store and a fantastic gastro pub called Bellos across the street on the ironbound side.

I miss an important aspect. The garden and the station aren't just hindering each other's development, they also benefit from another. Thanks to the station the garden is probably the best connected venue in the whole US. It's even at a top spot worldwide, with Europe and Asia generally having far better connected venues and stadiums. The station of course doesn't benefit as much from the garden, but public transport does. Relocating the garden most likely would make it much more reachable by car and less by public transport. That's just how it generally works in the US, putting a venue in the middle of nowhere and surrounding it with a sea of parking spots. That's just awful.

There’s a big empty space across from MSG where Pennsylvania Hotel once stood. And given the size of that empty space compared to MSG itself, you can definitely fit MSG across from current MSG now. Dolan family and MSG Entertainment have to buy that lot from Vornado Realty.

What's crazy is the list of all the possible funding sources mentioned in the video. State, city, federal government, transit operators, private sources, etc. I think when the Pennsylvania RR built the tunnels over a century ago, they did it all themselves with no outside funding. I think it was pretty much done on schedule as well. Add to that no computers, cell phones and other modern technologies. Yet today it takes decades if it even happens at all. Have we progressed?

It did NOT cost 1 billion dollars to build an arena in 1968. The stadium in Dallas cost over 1 Billion. Check or qualify that number (adjusted for inflation?).

You’re out of your mind if you think MSG is getting relocated anytime soon. It’s sad that Penn station is a gigantic mess, but they are going to have to figure out a solution that includes MSG. The city will never win in a legal battle against MSG, MSG has the rights to the land it’s built on and is one of the most important job creating and revenue generating venues in the entire world.

One of the biggest mistake NY ever made was allowing the original Penn Station to be demolished but at this point, telling a private company to up and move is wrong. Maybe moving MSG where the Javits Center is would be a decent compromise if the City pays to build the new stadium

THANK YOU. People not realizing NY's OWN mistakes shouldn't be at fault of the RIGHTFUL OWNERS of MSG. It's not their fault NY not only made things more difficult but waited till things started "breaking" to upgrade. MSG should not come out of pocket nor face all this backlash I'm seeing from people. This is NYC's fault. Not MSGs.

Madison Square Garden is legendary its own right, and an iconic part of the city. Its very good for the region as essentially the most public transit-accessible entertainment venue in the entire nation. There is certainly a way that Penn can be made grander while keeping the Garden exactly where it is. I wish you have spoken more about that instead of only the owners threatening to sue.

Right it felt very... biased. But like told in a way where it doesn't paint the entire picture to make both sides look neutral. Like a historical as well as someone's property is trying to be altered and people are acting like its just some random house in the way. Im sure the owners want to help but they dont want to be in a lose-lose situation where they have to give up just because the owners in NY took many many years to expand something that has been growing every year. Very unfair to put someone else at fault for what should have been done for years. Also people in the comments make me laugh. If it was them having ownership of something very historical and prominent to NY and the USA they wouldn't want to lose it. They think tearing down other things to build a whole dang arena fixes things when in reality it causes way more problems. Even on the financial and culture side of Manhattan losing both an NBA and an NHL team. Look at what happened to the Warriors. People raved about how in Oakland they had real fans and roaring support... now everyone complains it's just rich people from San Fran going for the idea and not the true passion. That small change of moving across the bay had a big impact culturally.
