By the way, is the theme song to this series the one that reached #39 on the British charts, with "The Teddy Bears' Picnic" on the other side? Just wondering. . . . 🤔
@FrederickFeatherstone3 күн бұрын
I'm not too versed in John Inman's musical career, but the theme song is a slight alteration of a song he wrote and performed. Things like "Grace Brother's Mens' Department" were removed for the sake of accuracy with the show.

I learned that John Inman visited Australia in 1980 and 1981 to appear as Mr. Humphries in their version of the series. I understand that the scriptwriters were not happy about rewriting their scripts for the Australian series, but this one is just as good. This episode was based on the British episode titled "Strong Stuff This Insurance". 😀

I learned about the Australian version of the series in that excellent book about "Are You Being Served?", published in about 1996. It's very good to see this version along with the original version, and I like both of them. 😀

They just didn’t have the chemistry of the original series. But I’m sure they tried their best.

I wonder if John Inman accidentally called any of the cast members by the wrong names

Only slightly better than the Australian version I guess they have more money than them, but it’s still crap. Only one worth watching is Mr. Humphries.

It doesn’t flow very easily you can tell they’re acting. I guess British really are superior actors.

Why is the British version of this episode not on YT anymore?? BTW, Joanna Lumley did it better.

I expect it was taken down for copyright issues. These episodes are allowed to be up because no one really cares about the copyright.

Just recycled scripts from the British show. Inman was good, but the others fell flat.

A poor attempt to Americanize a classic Britcom. They even had the gall to make the Mr. Rumbold character as a clueless young man.

The actors make good copies of their English counterparts but are clearly very talented in their own right.

With the same dialogue and such a strong cast, I am surprised this did not survive longer in Australia.

They were nearly word perfect with each of the English episodes. The Australian 🇦🇺 version didn't last that long. The two Ronnie's did their own version as well in Australia. Cultural connections of comedy across the sea. 💎

A commercial break. Much of the footage that remains of this show has long periods of a black screen which I believe would have been commercial breaks. I cut out as much of that dead space as I could.

While interesting to see a different version of Are You Being Served?, I still think the original version was better. In this version they mix up the lines from the characters and change some of them, changing who said what like Mr. Humphries doing Mr. Lucas's lines and other mix-ups. I just think the British actors did a better job of it, your milage may vary.
@nickcliffАй бұрын
I guess they done it differently for the Australia market
@EASYTIGER10Ай бұрын
Why did they bother remaking it? The sets are virtually the same, the characters are virtually the same, the stories are pretty much the same, and both versions have perfectly understandable English that can be understood in both countries.
@FrederickFeatherstoneАй бұрын
If what I read was true, there were copyright issues with showing the original show in Australia, so they just made a "copy" and aired it until the original show could be aired. After that, this show was left to the dustbin of history.
@redjack1876Ай бұрын
Not even close to as good as the original British Are You Being Served?. To much change in the rolls played and the actors just did not click like the original. Glad it was never picked up.
@redjack1876Ай бұрын
Nice attempt at making an Australian version of the show, but only Mr. Humpries was any good at his roll. Still it was better then the American attempt with the unpicked up pilot The Beane's of Boston, total garbage and understandable why it was never picked up. The actors were good, but the delivery of their rolls just did not work as well as the original British show.

Jolly good try....similar but not quite the charm & comic quality of the UK version! Can't duplicate perfection of the original UK show!

Its really odd that this would be a spin-off, but with the same exact script and similar dialog. I mean.....I guess the character MR. HUMPHRIES was self-aware when he said " this is just like being at home." Still odd though. Lazy writing. Not as funny either. But still cool to see that they did do another version.

Not bad for an original script. I enjoyed it.

wow, and i thought the Australian version was bad, this is a hundred times worse; its like they're not even trying, the English idiom jokes just don't translate well to American.

this hurt to watch, the acting was abysmal. much prefer the original, their chemistry was more natural, this felt forced and very fake.

All except one are modified copies of the originals. The one which is unique is Undesirable Alien.

The British version is miles better than this P.O.S episode this one watered down version seems rushed. Mrs. Slocomb is way better, ( actress playing her I mean.) It's just a way better version of the show. Idk which came first, I'm American and only came across these shows about 5 yrs ago so idk know that, but I do prefer the other one. These suck big time. Also why are they copying the same episode just with different actors and actresses. The only one that's the same is the gay man, Mr. Humphries. Also the movie they did had some one liner jokes from the show. One about Mrs slocomb being flung on her back from a land mine and the Germans were responsible was in the movie and show. Probably in this crappy version too, but not going to find out I'm not watching anymore of this. 🤢🤮😔😮💨

This episode is rather interesting as it's not a straight remake of the original. They actually managed to add in some original content, but also at the expense of the segment where Mr. Goldberg's friends otherwise rushed in at the start of the day to spend a ton of money.
