Dad is right, this video was inspired by 1985 "mad max behind thunderdome", it was actually an idea by Jada Pinkett Smith who was Tupac's close friend who was supposed to direct this video but later removed herself from the project. Fun Fact: This beat DR.DRE produced was his baby, he held it close when it was just a normal instrumental no lyrics. One day DR.DRE was at the studio and 2Pac was there, and this instrumental was playing and he heard it and told DRE he needed that beat and start rappin' to it, and the rest was history! 💐 Classic song/story

@@ilishmaach The version you refer to , which is released as Roger and Zapp, and appears on their second greatest hits compilation, released in late 90s, was released after the Dre/2Pac version, and is a rework to which Roger has all the right to given his contributions to the original and his legend status.

It's interesting. 2-Pac's Death Row career was way shorter than ppl may think. Despite the initial excitement for his arrival there, he quickly began recording non-stop to fulfil his record commitment and get off label. He was in the process of finishing "All Eyes on Me" and "Makaveli - The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" when he passed away. But during that span he recorded so much music they continued to release albums for years after. Including the song "Changes" which made one of the Popes top 10 song list, and numerous others that were within the vein of his earlier work, and even the more aggressive songs. Tupac was a very complex and complicated individual. But the music was undeniable.

the band was called ZAPP. The Troutman brothers were in the band. The reason why u have a greatest hits record calles Zapp & Roger, is cause Roger did a few solo albums so his singles were included in the GH compilation. By the time they released GH 2 , they released as by Roger & Zapp, given the resurgence Roger had with this track and some other R&b and hiphop collabs in the mid to late 90s.

Go listen to interviews if T-Pain and others that use Autotune and hear them talking about brewing influenced and loving Zapp n Roger. It's silly to act like they are so different. We're not doing a breakdown, eye taking about sound and it's very similar, but even more it is the same exact idea and intention. That "weird" vocal sound your dad was talking about towards the end of the song is called the "talk box" which is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone. And it was made popular by an artist name Roger Troutman who was in a a musical group called zapp & Roger. And he's actual the guy that is briefly shown in the video in the helicopter with the plastic talk box tube in his mouth. California love also samples the song "computer love" by zapp & Roger. You guys should check out some of their songs to. Roger also has some cool solo music he created too. Computer love is a classic, more bounce, chocolate city and so many more. A lot of west coast rappers/producers sampled Roger and his group zapp and roger quite often. Another song that sampled computer love is an old song by tech n9ne called "twisted" from his album angehellic. And Roger actually sang on that track with the talk box. There's actually old video footage of Roger in tech n9ne's house recording his parts in a small little bedroom on KZbin. Roger was an amazing artist. Unfortunately he was shot and killed by his brother Larry in a murder-suicide in 1999 not too long after he did that collaboration with tech n9ne. You guys should check out that song. The whole anghellic album is 🔥

The guy in the helicopter is Roger Troutman…of the duo, Zapp & Roger. He recorded his lyrics including the chorus with his talk box.

There are interviews of Tupac speaking about how joining Death Row and going mainstream was like him selling a part of himself, ( cover or rolling stone) there was a documentary film that heavily talks about him,Tupac Resurrection. Worth watching.

Still one of the hottest club bangers til this day. If they play this in a Hip Hop club, you know you're in good hands DJ-wise.

Need more of the old rap music forsure! I haven’t watched you guys in a while because I don’t care for the new rap music. I would love to see more of old school content 😊 or even some more 50 cent I know your dad likes him some 50 lol some of his other good songs I would like to see you guys listen to is “I’m supposed to die tonight” and “in my hood” 👍🏻

You need to review the to be continued! Which is the remix and album version (my preferred version of the two). Tupac recorded so much material whilst at death row because he wanted to complete his album fulfilment and start his own label. Thats why All Eyez on Me was a double album. Pac was also very loyal to Suge and Death Row for getting him out of jail though which you could say is ultimately led to his death. Fun fact is that according to Jimmy Iovine Interscope records (Death Row parent company) actually fronted the money but had to do it through Suge to avoid any negative publicity.

I love this channel so much. So many great songs. I highly recommend you watch the documentary The Defiant Ones which discusses the background and friendship of Jimmy Iovine & Dr. Dre. You’ll get a lot of great back stories there (Dre, NWA, Death Row & Aftermath).
