How does it know who is the good driver to learn from and who is the bad driver to not learn from?

What are your thoughts on obstructed cameras? Heavy rain/snow, blinding sunlight, heavy fog. The reason I ask. I have a model 3 that stopped in a busy intersection because the cameras were blinded by sunlight. I can see the same occurring with the other conditions I mentioned earlier. Thanks in advance.

I've been using FSD for the last two years and I can point to many instances in which it works but I'm also very aware the limits and failures. The fundamental problem is coexisting with human. FSD has no awareness of people giving directions or their expectations of other cars. It gets completely befuddled by signs whether a simple no turn on red and "turn after a stop on red" or, worse "no turn on red between 6AM and 8PM". A car flashing its lights is meaningless. My who doesn't even use FSD gets slammed by phantom breaking -- even with the latest build. And emergency vehicles ... Try driving in downtown Boston on a snowy day when the car thinks you're underground. FSD has improved and I do use but driving isn't getting it right 90% or even 99% but 100% with situational awareness. But it's important to get past the novelty excitement and understand the limits in the real world and why trying to solve FSD In isolation rather than thinking of transportation as a system is simplistic. FSD is amazing but so is so much other technology

I live next door to the state house and tested FSD about 6 months ago on many of the same streets for weeks. Some of my disengagements were caused by not feeling safe enough when a hazard appeared. Maybe FSD would properly avoid a crash, but it seemed too risky to take the chance. There was more stress using FSD than driving without it. Possibly our comfort factor expands over time when we trust it more. Is anyone else stressed-out using FSD?

There is zero reason to pay for this toy when you have to watch the road. I can drive and think about something else without any issues, while you have to be engaged 100% to make sure FSD doesn't kill you or someone else.

Yes, the HUGE breakthrough with this whole SELF DRIVING thing is that it's basically an AI large language model that is based off of driving interactions and it learns and integrates that information into the Tesla AI driving model. So, IN LAMENS TERMS ITS ONE DRIVER DRIVING MILLIONS OF CARS. So, if you only drive your Tesla 3 miles per day, it will still benefit from the mass of Tesla drivers, because the system BEING ONE DRIVER learns from all drivers and inputs and updates that information for your Tesla that only drives for 30 minutes a day. This is this most INFLUENCIAL invention to mankind since the CAR ITSELF. Soon we can be asleep and still be driven home safe. Soon we can send our children out and about so US PARENTS can take a nap. And this car is going to be YOUR BABYSITTER. Oh imagine this.

It's an amazing piece of technology but it's still very much fully supervised driving. I have on this software for many years and I rarely turn it on except on the highway. Driving on City streets is slow and inefficient and sometimes dangerous with FSD. There is a lot of hype behind it, but when the rubber meets the road it's not a useful thing right now. Who knows how many years it will take to get it to a point where it's useful and feel safe.

Jordan...WOW! When I saw a two hour video on FSD, I assumed that I would be watching at 2x and FF rapidly. Not the case. You have produced a compelling and engrossing dissertation on Tesla, and so much more. As a Boston driver, it was amazing to watch the vehicle navigate, almost flawlessly, the ridiculous, crowded, cow-path based roads of the Hub of the Universe! Beyond that, your discussion of how Musk and Tesla have developed FSD was illuminating. When Tesla ditched the Lidar and Radar, I assumed that they had given up! It never occurred to me that humans have been doing this with just two eyes! Your detailed analysis and discussion of the technology AND reasoning is compelling. Well done. I am now a subscriber! And now, for a political coda: I really wish that Elon would shut the F up! He is one of the most amazing technologists in history. His visionary and positive impacts on humanity are incontrovertible...Space Flight, Solar, Tunneling, Electric vehicles, FSD, etc, etc, etc. I hate to see his "brands" tarnished by his mouth (and money), but that is what is happening, and any impediment to his techno-progress is both unnecessary and unfortunate. Yes, I know that he is the richest man on the planet and that Citizen's United decision allows him to express himself through money, but that does not mean that he has to...that is a personal choice.

Doing any driving in Boston is a challenge. I just wonder how well it would do in heavy traffic with rude Mass drivers who try hard not to let you merge into a lane, say, in real life, you tend to almost force your way in. Wonder how AI deals with stuff like that.
@Alexnotjones11 күн бұрын
The challenging part is to drive at night with limited light with animals rushing out from side of the road. Driving in heavy rain or in heavy snow storm with slippery road and limited visibility. Driving on a Sunny day is not that challenging.

Looks like you you were driving a 2024 Model 3. My 2024 Model 3 was just updated to 12.5.6.1 on October 25th. It now occasionally drives faster than the posted speed limit. It seems to consider the driving environment, including what other cars are doing. It also now can do Smart Summon. It is always fun to drive and be driven.

Best review of FSD I’ve seen. I know people who say they’d never use it if their car could drive itself. But imagine how safe the roads would be if all vehicles had FSD. Completely taking humans impatience, anger, stupidity & distraction out of the equation.

Do you have a drifting issue when on the hiway? I almost got hit by a Tesla on rt 2 west the other day. I could see the driver did not have his hands on the wheel and he drifted to where the tires were on my line. Didn't quite cross the line but it went all the way covering the far edge of the line and then veered back to the left fairly abruptly over correcting a bit. Also going 53 in the middle lane of a 55.

At 1:38:11 when you grabbed the wheel I was wondering what would have happened if you didn't intervene? Would it have hit that black car on your right?

I have a request. There is an intersection in Belmont that has no stop signs. It's not a rotary. There is no clear indication of who has the right of way anywhere. But it works. I've considered this spot to be a great test case for FSD. If you could go through this a few times at some point, it would be great and probably make good video. maps.app.goo.gl/AvNwqLSueHUpdEYdA

26:00 I agree with this logic, because in Rome I saw many accidents where taxi drivers didn't see pedestrians crossing in the middle of the street. I think that would be a very good place to do another test, it will be a hardcore test :D
