Bottom line: A solid hit from either of those rounds = a very bad day for the receiver.

The only difference i can tell you is one is more over pressured than the other. Being the American at some odd 56 maybe 57,000 barrel pressure. The Nato at im thinking 60 something maybe 61000. . My AR 10 doesn't mind it though. It'll eat any style or brand ammo you got at hand reloaded or your buddies got laying around in the ammo box. The German G3 is a tough piece of Hardware as well. I really like it for the classic durability an furniture. The green is a good look. It will also eat an sling 308s and 7.62s so good. That'll it make small dent in the casing or sometimes so bad it's darn near impossible to reload.

In a self defense situation, over-penetration puts innocent bystanders in danger and could get you sued into oblivion or worse, thrown in prison.
@johnklatt35222 сағат бұрын
Yes, that's true for any self-defense caliber you choose. Just need to do your due diligence and choose your self-defense ammunition (bullet weights and designs) wisely. With proper bullet weights and designs, the 9mm, 10mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP will have similar penetration results in ballistics gel. (FBI / IWBA Protocols of 12 to 18"). I know ballistics gel is not real-life comparisons (not a 1 to 1 result), but it's a good medium to equally evaluate the performance of our chosen self-defense ammunition.

Factory loaded 10mm is enemic. Load up to near max or use Underwood and you will see the difference.

Why it looks burnt in the gel. When the squishy stuff goes back to shape, it raises the pressure. It's called *adiabatic heating*. Molecules in hot gasses are farther apart and less dense (that's how hot air balloons work). If you squish the molecules together, rapidly, they they heat up, like an air compressor or diesel engine. The opposite is when uncompressing a gas. When you spray canned air on your hand, the gasses take energy from you (feels cold).

If you don’t buy your ammo on midway it’s not that bad as far as price. Midway is the most expensive around

Man, I wish you had tried the green tip on the 3/8 steel! I was dying to know if it was going to be any, and if so, how much deeper... but thanks once again for an interesting test! ETA: OK you are redeemed... I see you ran the comparison between the penetrators a year ago... :)
@JayB-bq7hh4 сағат бұрын
And 10mm is more expensive anyways !!!! BLAH !!! Remember over penetration , so I use all 124grain FMJ or for defense Speer Gold Dots or Federal HST hollow points !!! Use a heavy pill, to sooth the active shooter or attacker !!!

Terminal ballistics are NOT the same between these calibers. And they are NOT close. 9mm and 10mm are NOT in the same league. 9mm is NOT a .45 ACP and 9mm is NOT a .357 magnum. 10mm is very close to .357 magnum! The problem is people want so badly to claim their 9mm is as good as any other caliber. It’s not. It’s a great caliber but all calibers are NOT the same.

I'm a noob pistol shooter but I joined a pistol club and have been shooting a lot for the last six months and I'm pretty surprised by the lack of difference in felt recoil between 9 mm and .45ACP. At least when fired from «big» auto pistols like a Beretta 92 and a 1911, the difference is really nothing to write home about. I expected it to be the hand cannon (.45) vs the pea shooter(9mm)!

7 women got pregnant listening to his voice. Seriously though, how do these rounds stack up with 7.62x54R, I imagine similar? Russian hunters would have you believe that you can drop a full adult moose buck across a mountain valley 1.4 miles in range ( story told from another hunter) where he dropped the moose cold with one shot with a mosin and trekked a whole day to go get him. LOL.

The terminal difference in defensive calibers is maginal. 9mm, 357 sig,.40 S&W, .10mm, .45 ACP. Barrel length and ammo selection outweigh bore diameter and grainage.
