Thanks Jo really enjoyed watching this, that Apple, Chocolate Scone looked amazing also the White Chocolate Drink, I was surprised they glued the cakes down.

It was a really nice scone and the first time I’ve had one with that combination. It was probably the best item from the afternoon tea. I do miss clotted cream though. I don’t often have white chocolate drinks but I thought I’d have a change. The glue was edible but was quite sticky and unpleasant as it was on all the desserts which I don’t think was really necessary in my opinion. I’ve been meaning to go to Cordis for a while but wanted to wait until they had a menu I particularly liked as they change it quite regularly.

I heard that they will ship overseas for you for £25 no matter how much you buy. Is that true ?
@josatkin
@josatkin 2 күн бұрын
Unfortunately that isn’t true. They have rules on what type of products they can ship to different countries. It’s about £40 to ship to NZ but certain products/categories they can’t ship due to import/export rules, biosecurity and international brand restrictions. This applies with various international countries. I have a F&M playlist that also has unboxing videos on things I’ve ordered online - kzbin.info/aero/PLMc2PYLCYJBNqry5jS72rtf2IKv3CJL_d

Yep it’s not the cheapest supermarket in NZ. I did also get some imported items and in general you pay between double or triple the price to what they cost in UK. But I do love a naughty treat. The Mr Kipling French fancies were delicious 😋

Pretty standard layout although l notice you are straight into the fruit and veg. Many supermarkets have what they called a decompression zone- not much there just a small space for you to adjust to your surroundings. They employ psychologists! Incidentally no one apart from Americans likes what they call chocolate, so don’t feel bad.
@josatkin
@josatkin 6 күн бұрын
That’s really interesting. Whenever I go into the supermarket I always have a list. If I ever go into a supermarket hungry, I do always get swayed by the odd naughty cake/brownies. I’m all for the odd treats in life though and love a gorgeous afternoon tea 😋

@@josatkinThe reason fruit and veg is first is to make you think of it as a place full of wholesome food. They have a lot of tricks to keep you in the store longer cos the longer you are there the more you spend. That’s why they move stuff around so you spend time hunting for things. The environment is created to make you relaxed ( lighting, colours etc) so you will spend more. Most people know about eye level but they also put things attractive to children at their level. They use social issues to promote spending like a box for groceries for the poor. Loyalty cards are designed to find out about our shopping habits. I don’t know if you have Aldi and Lidl but they are a far more straightforward proposition.

@@jontalbot1 Yes I remember watching a documentary when I lived back in the UK about how supermarkets are designed and engage customers - it was fascinating! We have Lidl & Aldi in the UK but I've never actually shopped there. I will be doing other UK food vlogs when I fly back over there as I'm curious to see if I'd like them. I used to shop in Morrisons many years ago when I lived in another city as it was the nearest supermarket to where I was living at the time. Fun to watch. This made me pause the video to order Digestives and a few other things. Had to stop myself from ordering a box of Walker crisps. Instead of using DampRid, could you get a dehumidifier? Dehumidifiers pull moisture and you can simply empty them - may be much cheaper in the long run. Costco might have it.

I’ve been to Costco in Portland Oregon. It is set up the same as this. Just a big warehouse with products on pallets like in a warehouse logistics centre. It is ideal for people who live out of town and only come in once a month to stock up on groceries and provisions. They can fill up their pickup/ute and haul it off home. In New Zealand 🇳🇿 we’ve had bulk buy places like Uncle Bills, Cracker Jack and Reduced to clear, even the Warehouse (to a degree) for a while now, but nothing really like Costco. Moore Wilson’s in Wellington was close I think, just not as large in the variety.

We were at Fortnum and Mason high tea last week as part of our London tour. The afternoon turned out horribly. My family and I turned up on the fixed appointment and were shown to our table. We were left alone after that. We waved to staff and they ignored us. After a long moment, we felt unwelcome and thought of leaving. My wife got up from her seat and walked straight to a staff and insisted that they served us like the other customers. Another white family came and sat next to us. They served them tea and sandwiches instantly! Why the different treatment? We are from S E Asia.
