Does super pegs 180 free standing awning have legs so it can be tied down if there is a wind flare up. I am only interested in the 180 not 270 -- outbound shield 3 as I have a ranger with a trig point canopy so the 270 is no good because my tyre and ladder are on back and with a 270 cannot climb the ladder to the roof rack

Great vid thanks Brett. Curious on your camper trailer journey and if the TVan came into the thought process ? I am considering the Nexus and Tvan. Love the Nexus for space, kitchen and storage. Slight compromise of dealing with canvas. Tvan can do a quick set up and no canvas. But in my understanding Tvan bed area not great for tall people like me. Hence I am leaning to the Nexus
@iLuvDirt
@iLuvDirt 11 ай бұрын
Yes we look at the TVAN, but didn't go that way due to the small cabin space around the bed, and the lack of a water-tight cooking area. For us, getting in out of the insects and rain when we want to was a critical buying decision. We traded off the setup time to get that.

Thanks Brett, with the awning improvements, who did the work and if it was a business please advise? Also more detail on exactly what changes you made to the attachment points to square it up. In principal the lifting sleeves are a great idea but in reality either poor workmanship (if misaligned) or poor design make it almost impossible to lower my awning alone. Stockman did the work. Very disappointing. It is a nightmare and takes longer to pull the awning down successfully, alone, than it takes to pack up the rest of my setup. Some more detail on who/how fixed yours would be appreciated please.
@iLuvDirt
@iLuvDirt Жыл бұрын
Mine is the stockman one. Custom off grid solutions at Enoggera in Brisbane did the adjustments. I still need to try putting a shim inside the post to see if that smooths out the lifting process. I know we will sort this as Drifta had the same mechanism on their trailers; and I’ve used those many times without issue!!!

Tyres are important - definitely need AT’s out there - not for the sand, but for the roads in and out of there. If you’re going solo, then have options for self recovery - could be extra maxtrax, deadman, hand winch (turfer), rated recovery points etc. Just have options for getting unstuck, or be quick to setup for someone else to give you a snatch out if required. A few cm of extra clearance helps too. If you’re towing - then ensure the trailer is light so that it doesn’t anchor you down. Hope that helps!!

I’ve often felt that Australia has become a bit of a nanny state, so many laws, rules, regulations and restrictions. That said, I think something really needs to be done with driving, licence classes and the lack of real driver training. It’s not just for the young people the beginners either. These days it’s so common to see people who’ve spent their entire lives living and commuting in the cities get to retirement age and they suddenly race out & buy 3 tonnes worth of 4x4, load it up (often illegally) to 4 tonnes and then whack a 3.5 tonne caravan to the rear of it, load it to 4tonnes (or more)’& then set off into the outback to terrorise the rest of the community and it’s so damn dangerous. Advanced driving courses should be mandatory for all drivers and people should be required to undergo refresher courses every 5-10 years. License classes should be RE-examined and people should required to undergo extensive training before they tow anything bigger than a box trailer with a 500kg ATM. You only have to attend the scene of 1 fatal collision to realise how serious these issues are and I’m often surprised by the lack of serious & fatal incidents on our roads given the millions of morons out there travelling around doing their incompetent best 🤦‍♂️ The governments have been banging on about gun laws and the like but a vehicle is much more dangerous than ‘most’ firearms and they virtually let any idiot drive one and they let them do it after passing one of the most basic tests on the face of the earth (current driver licensing tests) 😂.
@iLuvDirt
@iLuvDirt Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen a lot of responsible drivers too. More and more people are attending towing courses and making use of mobile weigh stations to check their setups. Awareness is on the rise and i think the government has been tackling this in a pragmatic way. Will be interesting to see where this goes over the next two years.

Hello, apologies if you’ve already covered this in another video somewhere else on your fantastic channel but would you mind sharing which company did the GVM Upgrade, was it done pre or post rego, what is the GVM/GCM if the vehicle and do you know what it’s new TARE weight is with all the accessories on it? I understand you’ve done everything properly and kudos to you for that, so congratulations on putting the touring vehicle of your dreams together in such a well thought out manner. Do you have any water carrying capacity in or under the canopy? How does the big girl ride compared to when it was a wagon? Finally, I urge you to take action to deal with the air box to avoid any chance of dusting occurring. I have a friend who is very maintenance savvy & proactive who unfortunately recently dusted his engine just prior to starting a 12 month recon trip around Australia. It immediately cost him 2 new turbos but has left him with an engine that now has a question mark over it. As it only happened just weeks before his scheduled 12 month trip he was left with only 2 options, cancel the trip or proceed with potentially a ticking time bomb. Like yourself his vehicle was a labour of love and he’s now touring & worrying as he goes. He also has an upcoming $30,000 repair. The air box he replace the OME with is now readily available and such a better option. His offending dusting incident occurred during a short phase of a short trip and occurred just over hours effectively destroying the heart of his vehicle & his soul. As I wait for my new 300 GR Sport I wonder what other stupid issues Toyota has me waiting to face. 🤦‍♂️
@iLuvDirt
@iLuvDirt Жыл бұрын
Airbox has been done now. Weight with full fuel, full water, gear packed and ready to roll is 4200kg. 70 litres of water carrying capacity under the canopy. And the ride is still smooth like the wagon - but we did have to upgrade the suspension to get the gvm upgrade and to ensure it would still ride nicely with the extra weight.
@iLuvDirt
@iLuvDirt Жыл бұрын
Gvm done pre rego, done by ASG4x4 in Toowoomba. 4490 kg gvm and GCM remains factory 6850 kg. GCM fine for my intended usage as it’s 1500kg offroad trailers in my setup.
@GR8Tmate
@GR8Tmate Жыл бұрын
@@iLuvDirt Wow, she’s a big unit 😂. Yes I could see you’ve put a fair bit into her with the chop and all, I’ve known a few people that have done it but never really discussed weight and loading. What I find interesting about GVM Suspension upgrade kits is some manufacturers seem to do more than others. Some kits are springs, shocks and a second stage manufacturer’s compliance plate whereas other SSM include a lot more kit such as brake boosters, brake lines, rotors, pads and various other bits. So your GCM is 7,700kg then or is your towing capacity also increased to 4,000kg? It’s a whole lot of motor car isn’t it 🧐
@GR8Tmate
@GR8Tmate Жыл бұрын
@@iLuvDirt I should have read on before I replied to your last message 🤦‍♂️. I think pre-rego is the smartest way to go about it, especially when it come to resale as it reduces complications for the 2nd owner making interstate sales easier. You’re probably not thinking about selling now, it’s the sort of rig that you don’t part with. Did you consider an American truck before going this route?
