Wearing your full strength glasses all the time will cause hyperopic defocus. This will cause axial elongation and will cause your eyesight to get worse. Most people don't get worse just from age. It's how we take care of our eyes as we age. If we don't have good habits and wear full strength all the time then our eyes will get worse. You can google these terms or use Google Scholar to look them up. I learned better habits for my eyes from Jake Steiner of Endmyopia and how to improve my eyesight.

I wouldn't wear glasses for -0.25. If you do get glasses, only wear them when you need to. Maybe driving at night is the only time they would really help. Do you notice any problems at night when there is less light to see properly?

I’ve been wearing my glasses for 14 years straight besides sleeping and I’ll tell ya the only thing that made them worse was the amount of screens I’ve been watching since then. I heard if you have nearsightedness that it can actually get worse if you don’t wear prescription. Like the doctor said ask a professional.

Wow THANK YOU for all the info. I wish I could find a great optometrist here in NY. I had no clue, most EVERYONE has these issues. My first pair of glasses have been in a drawer bc I swore something was wrong. The doc, nor anyone else in the office gave me any info knowing it was my first pair of glasses. 2 years later, I now really have no choice but to get another pair of glasses. Hence the research I am doing now that I should've done 2+ years. Again, THANK YOU Doc. for info and great tips!!!

I mean it really depends on your age. I had myopia for 14 years and mine only got worse since I had mine at an early stage. 20s-30 year olds tend to have their vision stabilized but it could happen much later too. In my opinion wear them 24/7 because I heard not wearing them can make it worse but again that depends on your age.

I'm a retired optician myself and you're right, I am surprised that you wear eyelash extensions. But not so much because of eye health, but more so because you often are seen wearing glasses. For many young ladies even just having normal long lashes can be problem if they wear glasses. That's because their lashes are actually brushing the inside of their lenses as they blink. I had more than one of my female co-workers complaining about this problem and our store policy was that everyone had to wear glasses when working. This was a major issue with the girls that didn't even need glasses and were required to wear non-prescription glasses 8 hours every working day. So should I assume that you only wore contacts while you were wearing the lash extensions? As a doctor I'm sure you are well aware that wearing contacts for that long isn't good for eye health either. So unless you only have a very weak prescription that you're able to see well enough without glasses or contacts you shouldn't be promoting it. But being a man that enjoys seeing attractive young ladies I do have to tell you that you really do have beautiful eyes and you look amazing. But being an optometrist even as amazing as you look your patients are going to accept you more if you're wearing glasses yourself. They feel you are more able to relate to them if you also wear glasses. Just curious, who examines your eyes? Are you able to refract your own eyes or do you have an optician do that for you. I'm asking that because our doctor was a young woman and she told me that she tried examining her own eyes and wasn't able to. But her husband was also an optometrist working at a different company so she had him do her eye exam. In watching your videos unless all of the glasses you wear when filming are planos you don't appear to have much of a prescription at all. Do you mind me asking what your prescription is? Have you ever heard of something called "GOC"? If you have you probably know it means "glasses over contacts" and it's purpose is for people that don't want bifocals or progressives. So they get contacts to correct their nearsightedness and then wear reading glasses when they need to read small print. But their is another version of it as well. Let me explain. About 10 years ago I had a sweet young lady come in wanting to work for free just for experience since she was planning on starting optometry school later that years. No way could i not hire her when she was even willing to work for free. of course she was hired with the same pay as the other new people were hired at. She was a very good worker. She was one of the ones that didn't need glasses which was determined a few days after she was hired and received her free eye exam. So she took quite a while choosing the glasses she was going to be wearing everyday at work. One afternoon it was just her and me and no doctor so very slow. I asked her, by the way her name was and still is Amanda, why she wanted to be an optometrist since she didn't even need glasses herself? She said that her dad was a dentist and her sister was about to graduate as a pharmacists and she was always interested in the eyes. She told me that she actually always wanted to wear glasses but never needed them. Once she had decided that she wanted to be an optometrist she even went into her sisters room and pulled out several pairs of her her old glasses. She tied wearing the weakest pair and she was able to see pretty well wearing them but after an hour or so she got a nasty headache so she took them off,. She tired wearing them several more times and each time she got started feeling a headache coming on. She figured out the problem was that her sister had astigmatisms and that was the reason for the headaches She said she always wondered what it would be like to really need glasses. I happened to remember something I read about GOC. When I read it I wondered if it actually worked or was nonsense. But no harm in trying. I stared looking through several drawers of glasses that were half paid for by the state and never picked up. I finally found a pair of really cute glasses made for a young woman about the age of Amanda maybe and the prescription was a nice simple -1.50 for both eyes. I then told Amanda to pull out a pair of +1.50 contacts. When she came back with them I told her to put them on. She had recently been taught how to put in and take out contacts but she was still quite new at it so it took her bit longer but she managed to get them on. As she looked u and around I could see that her eyes weren't able to focus at all even with some noticeable squinting didn't seem to help her much if at all. She was laughing and asking what happened to her eyes. I told her to look at me and i slid the glasses on her. Now she was really laughing because everything was suddenly nice and clear for her again. I could tell she was in completer shock about everything but she seemed to be loving it. She took the glasses off and everything was instantly blurry again as she looked around the room. She put the glasses back on and she was able to see again. She kept doing it several more times. At one point she took the glasses off and I could tell she was trying to read something on the furthest wall away and she was squinting really hard. When she put the glasses back on she told me that squinting really does help but it doesn't make it perfect. She said she always wondered as shew was working on someone's glasses and shew would see them squinting if that helped them at all. Now she knew fore herself that it in fact does help. This was suppose to only be a test not knowing if it even worked or not. As it turned out it worked perfectly. Amanda continued wearing the glasses with the contacts under them as well the rest of the day. Amanda asked me if it was okay if she wore her glasses to show her friend she was meeting after work. A few minutes before locking the doors she took the glasses off and she put some drops in her eyes. I asked her if everything was okay and she said she was fine but her eyes weren't used to having contacts on for so long which was now at over 5 hours. she cleaned her glasses and put them on and we headed for our cars. She wore them to work the next morning and everyone noticed her glasses were different than the pair she had ben wearing. She told everyone about what we did including our doctor. She didn't seem thrilled at what we did and insisted on checking Amanda's vision wearing the contacts along with the glasses. She was fine after Amanda proved that her eyesight was completely perfect wearing the combination of contacts and glasses. At one point the doctor had her take off her glasses just to see how well she could see wearing the contacts and no glasses. She could barely see any of the bottom half of the eyechart. The doctor laughed and told her to be sure she keeps her glasses on when driving. Amanda has since gone through optometry school and is working full time. She has gotten married and has a baby girl. We stay in touch and she still has perfect vision but she said she often wears her GOC combination because she feels more like an eye doctor wearing glasses.

This is pretty sage advice. However you should've mentioned that if your taking a bath or shower don't wear your glasses while you're doing that. Or if you're washing your face. I do wear my glasses full time. I have trouble seeing things in the distance but I can read things fine. She prescribed progressive lenses so I wouldn't have to take them off to read.
