It is a part of the sport called cutting weight that is dangerous in my opinion. The heart needs electrolytes/salt for the chemical signals to fire off to keep it pumping or it stops working. I had a neurologist once that told me their patients passed away from drinking too much water? For the experienced professional these water cuts are possible but like you said what is happening to the kidneys? I don't like them. The pursuit of excellence at any cost is not the best plan if you are not around to enjoy another day. I am concerned for Devon because those last few days he may be in a zombie state. He already looks worn out.

So Devon right now is maybe 113 kg with no shoes and clothes. That means 8 kg left to water cut. Now normally, that's a very manageable cut but in this case, Devon has already lost about 10 kg or so through eating at a calorie deficit and also cut out carbs meaning he lost a lot of glycogen weight. It's very unlikely that he can lose an additional 8 kg on top of the weight he's already lost in these past 3 weeks. I think chances are Devon doesn't make the cut since that's way too large of a cut, especially considering that he's older than he's ever been and this is the largest cut he has ever made. However, Devon has made a big show of saying he's going to prove everyone wrong and get this cut done so I can see him taking extreme measures like using diuretics and spending longer than healthy amounts in the sauna in order to make weight. If this happens, his body will be in a very vulnerable state against Oleg Petrenko and he may win overall but he'll likely to drop a round or two.

@ArmwrestlingRevolt6 сағат бұрын
He will make the weight or end up in the hospital. If/when he makes weight what type of energy will he get back is the question. He had a few weeks of lack of discipline. He knows when in a weight class you can’t let your weight balloon up more than a decided up point. He allowed the Leonidas match to push his weight up high after his fast. He is now suffering for that decision. I hope he doesn’t have kidney problems from this.
@armwrestlerjeff7 сағат бұрын
I think he will make it by the skin of his teeth. He is mentally tough to the extreme, so yes it will probably work out for him even though it just looks like pointless risk to me. Your assessment makes perfect sense though for a normal human
@bradprovik4538 сағат бұрын
I know 5 guys at least that lost 20lbs or more in a week for strongman with extreme water loading 3.5 days/cutting and then sauna. 24 hour weigh-in, then show up contest Saturday and run/carry/press their normal training weight. 114kg to 105kg , Sunday to Friday weigh-in is typical. Hard work, but reproducible and really a non-issue. And those guys usually did it for a trophy, not the average-Canadian-yearly-salary $$ Dev gets paid for this match lol . He's going to make it.
@armwrestlingprofessor6 сағат бұрын
But is that 20 lbs total for the cut? Try losing 20 lbs after you've already lost 20 just prior. Weight loss isn't linear, after you lose all the water and food in gut weight you eventually have to actually start metabolizing your own tissue which takes time. Roughly 0.5kg per day for Devon if I'm in the right ballpark with his maintenance calories
@Dmgolfer229 сағат бұрын
This my my thought the whole time him wanting to do 105. His body naturally wants to be at 270 plus when healthy and he’s way leaner than he used to be. In WAL 2018-2019 he was 250-260 with more fat than he has now at 270. I don’t think being on gear his body wants to be this light.

@Dmgolfer229 сағат бұрын
Well doing 10kgs water cut from your walk around weight is one thing. But to do it after being carb depleted, lean and dry is another. I dunno if he can do it.
@mence599213 сағат бұрын
But Devon hasnt to drop 10kgs. He was 114 yesterday with clothes and shoes on. So he was probably 112.5 5 days out. He has to lose 7.5kgs in 5 days. If eats close to nothing and does a shit ton of cardio. Imagining a 2.8k kcal deficit he can lose 400g of fat per day(if loses muscle he can actually even improve the weight loss). So it would be 2kg of real body mass lost. So he has to lose 5.5 of water. Extremely hard, but at the moment he is drinking like crazy to get in flushing mode before cutting water completely. I'm sure he can, he messed up, he definitely messed up and his performance will suffer from it. But he can reach the 105kg mark on friday.
@Dmgolfer229 сағат бұрын
He’s already lost 25+lbs and is lean and dry. I don’t think he has even 5kg water to lose. He’s been carb depleted for awhile.

I haven't done a feint in arm wrestling yet. It is pretty advanced and works if your opponent also has enough table IQ to fall for your feint. I do change positions and styles while pulling because my opponents just do one move and don't adjust that much quickly to fall for feints.

@codyvangordon182211 күн бұрын
I wouldn't quite go as far as to describe it as a drive... I've done this naturally my entire career mostly with hand and pressure in the setup and transitioning that hand game to some advantage and snowballing that as the match continues... Larratt would describe it as supinating to pronate further when talking in reference to outside armwrestling after the go... I would say your close but it's better said as proactive table motion versus reactive table motion, meaning you are leading the "dance" in such a way that you feed the opponent information in the form of pressure in specific areas to further your advantage in a pre-determined move... Such as your example with the press back into the roll out, you fed press with image and pressure to gain height and roll further (sometimes I think we are all saying the same thing in a different way 😂) nonetheless awesome content!
