then just play minecraft. if someone wants to do megabuilds, wacky automated farms and machines that don't make sense, or other project, then just play minecraft. vintage story has its own identity and goals to achieve. automation would be nice, but minecraft's physics and logic wouldn't fit in VS. it's grounded to reality and familiarity, yet immerses you in its otherworldly settings, stories, and mechanics mixed with elements of horror here and there. and as such, the progression mimics how prehistoric humans survived through the ages until the discovery of man's steel. I don't want to "gather *slime* from *slime monsters* that only spawn in *slime chunks* that you have to dig out a 16x16x256 cuboid hole in the ground to *maximize*, *optimize*, and *efficiently* farm a thousand *slimeballs* to create *slime blocks* for your sugarcane farm to make millions of paper to sell to hundreds of caged librarians to make money and buy enchanted books." I applaud builders who try to make sense of these mechanics by integrating designs and details into farm builds, like support beams for overhanging/floating structures, the typical medieval builds, or just people who want to look at something nicer than an *empty shell of a machine made of mostly stone that's oozing with slime, covered in red glowing powder, and for some reason there's a haybale used for target practice and a wooden lectern.* but I guess it's weird when I put it like that. I like minecraft, it has funny mechanics that only a madman can think of (thanks notch), but I don't think every game should be like minecraft. I like mining out tunnels in mountains being careful not to drop the ceiling on my head, or prospecting and surveying the land before setting up camp to dig out a quarry to mine a lot of stone for cobble, larger rocks for more polished and smooth stone builds, and the penultimate iron source. regarding "endgame" tho, there will come a time when vintage story will start working on steam power, as indicated in their roadmap tldr; minecraft is a silly and fun game, but I don't think vintage story should mimic minecraft's success for its own gain, and instead focus on what it has to offer that minecraft can't, and have people learn mechanics that our ancestors discovered, learned, and perfected for millennia

Whats the end game for life? Im not a fan of "end games" its like the devs are saying "you had fun but it's time to pack up." My biggest mistake in Minecraft was soloing the Ender Dragon. I dont even play the game anymore because of that, it's done. Part of what keeps Vintage Story so fresh for me is that I have no cut and clear goal, instead Im just a man trying to survive. Id hate for that to change.
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 11 күн бұрын
The nature of a sandbox doesn't change whether there is an ender dragon or not. You could have continued to play the same way before soloing the dragon as you could have after. You deciding to quit, wasn't a product of defeating the boss, but a lack of intrinsic motivation. Extra content is just that, extra content. If you are afraid it will deflate your desire to play, don't do it?
@Overgis4058
@Overgis4058 11 күн бұрын
@@Oscillascape this is true. I guess after defeating the dragon the game lost the spark that it used to bring. I felt like I conquered the game, and after defeating the wither I felt like there wasn't anything left that was impactful. I didnt want to start from scratch from square 1 again, but I also wasnt having fun with the new tools I got from the end. The elytra killed all exploration but it was so convenient that I didn't want to get rid of it. Playing the game just became dissatisfying, and around the same time I found some other survival games and really stuck to those. I still come back to MC every now and then; it just doesnt feel as magical as it did back then so I never keep playing for more than just a few days.

It's 1.18 ruins yes. Once you generate an area it will have whatever features the game has at the time. There is an option to regenerate the chunks, but I decided against that. If I go to unexplored areas though, the game will start to generate 1.19 ruins and eventually I will be exploring very far.

Meat, hides, fat and bones?! Find a southern Desert with Gazelle... they yield like 12-16± meat per, plus like 10-14± from their babies... If you find a good spot with loads of spawns and have at least Tin Bronze arrows you can spend about 30min-1hr irl time and walk away with a 8-16 stacks of meat, half to full stack or 2 of fat, multiple stacks of hides and tons and TONS of bones... Gazelle are SOOOOOOO amazing for their yield vs kills ratio. After about 30min of hunting I was able to make over 2 years worth of full meat/veg and meat/fruit meals and enough hides to make like 8+ stacks of leather. The only thing that's better is if you have that medieval items mod that adds "cows" (an ancient extinct ancestor of today's cows). They yield a TON of everything plus double bones (some bones in harvest inventory as well as in world skeleton broken for bones) and on top of all of that they are breedable. Grass in a large trough to feed, so cheap cheap cheap for high yields. Unfortunately I don't think they can become domesticated if I remember correctly, but that kind of works to your advantage. Just don't treat them like VS animals, think more like MC cows... aka build up a large herd, breed all up that can and after birth cull the herd. Leave 2 or 3 males and a dozen or 2 females and then replace the floor in the area they are kept. Replace the floor with chisled blocks with holes large enough for the babies to fall in but not the adults. This is similar to the generations filter by Odd Ape however there's no escaping the chamber below. Now wait for the babies to grow up and harvest those, now and forever the adult cows above are the "seed" cows and shall never be killed.

Vintage story needs an expansion on the tech tree in an dynamic way that allows each playthrough feels different by limiting the possibilities you are allowed to chose. Some gameplays you may focus on smithing, others alchemy, exploration, shamanism, engineering and so on. The best way to such with preserving the more survival focused elements and heavy grind present on the game compared with other block games is a time progression where the games gets harder and harder as time goes on and certain resources would be only present in certain areas to incentive the player to explore harsher environments with different needs for survival. If you want daturas to make a poison potion or to use to get really high to talk to the gods of time you need to move to south, that is hotter but you have to deal with an more active and dangerous fauna. Add some magic, dungeons and a few other things and the games becomes a master piece. I have the entire design document inside my head.
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 21 күн бұрын
It's an interesting concept, but seems like it would require re-imagining of the game from the ground up. I don't see it happening to be honest.
@IFalling_CHERRY_BOY
@IFalling_CHERRY_BOY 20 күн бұрын
 @Oscillascape I think a lot of the mechanics are already there, you just need to add things on top. Potion crafting could be a branch of cooking and engineering something you need to explore to get schematics, you can work shamanism on top of the potion crafting adding a few butchering mechanics where you can get bones and herbs. The escalating difficulty could be related to the corruption of the world by the rifts, where you can focus on trying to purify it through several means or fortify your base as time moves, eventually areas where you are not always doing the upkeep become too hazardous to explore freely. You can still get everything for the tech trees, but it gets harder over time. I'm not going through a completely ignorant perspective here either since I already worked on a few mods and games, I would say it is possible, but it would be more something built upon the mechanics already present than something that adds new things completely. It would change the feel of the game a lot, though. so maybe it is a pipe dream. I don't mind dreaming, tho. :0)

I absolutely love this play thru! Your build style is very inspiring. 🤩 I love the grindy nature of this game. I even prefer it to TOBG. I’m currently building cloud islands made from glass. (Which is a Hella tedious process, but so worth it!) I see you’re struggling w/ obtaining fat. (Relatable) My advice would be instead of investing into Sheep🐑, like you did in the earlier half. You should breed Pigs🐖 instead. Even for hunting, Pigs are superior imo. Since they drop 2 Fat per kill. Whereas, Sheep only drop 0.7-1.3* Fat. (Citation: the Wiki) I’m not sure the drop rate changes if the animals are domesticated. Since this info came from killing Wild Sheep & Pigs. Best case scenario, you’d get more of the good stuffs! 🤣 In my server, I actually prioritized Pigs first bc they give so much of the stuff you need early game. They breed well, produce lots of piglets, give loads of fat, etc. Odd Ape has a fabulous design to filter each generation from the last. It can be made to work w/ any animal, but is primarily worked around Pigs. Dairy isn’t rly useful until the mid-game, which is the only reason you’d want Sheep. Since you need salt, boards, & lots of time to make a sustainable nonperishable like cheese. 😅 Sheep are still dope, not for fat tho. Bears🐻‍❄️ are truly a menace. I have a mod tht let me tame a Grizzly & named him Fazz. I also used a mod to tame a Sawblade Locust & named her Vignette. (LOL very OP, Ik.) What I do in my play thrus is kill bears early game for leather. I have a decent early leather power house. 3x3 square of barrels allows you to process 15 huge hides into 75 leather. You only need to kill 5 Grizzlies (Brown Bears) or Polar Bears in the North for this. This sounds like a lot, but once you either have the Dirt Stacking or Luring Method mastered it’s fairly straightforward. Just nap 6-8 spears, build a dirt pillar (You gotta be quick), & Punt away! Kurazarrh made a neat bear pit in the 2nd Season. Here you just lure the bear, hop onto the dirt pole, & throw your spears. I’m not sure if overhunting mechanics work on hostile animals the same as prey or tamable animals. (Or even at all) By over hunting bears, you could decimate their populations. 😅 I hope you enjoyed my Best Seller Novel here! I rly enjoyed this video, and have been keeping up w/ you since your first 100 days vid. How I found this game was from a 100 days vid by Secret Foxfire (Kickass Name🤣) Speaking of badass names! Pardon my language. How do you pronounce yours? I just call you Ollie Scape. I hope you have a fantastic play thru & fabulous life! 🤩😸🪐🌙✨
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape Ай бұрын
Wow thanks for the novel! My name is a play on words. There is a device called Oscilloscope, which lets you measure currents, my dad uses it a lot since he is into electronics. So if you know how to pronounce that word you just replace the O with an A. Originally I came up with a name for my music project and called it Oscillating Soundscape. Oscillating just means when the wave goes up and down, basically a vibration. Scape is just a word for a scene. The moniker was a little too long so I shortened it to Oscillacape, basically jamming two words together while playing on the real world device. I know that pigs are the way to go for breeding since they each produce a lot of piglets. I don't think there is a difference in fat drops between sheep and pigs, that has to do with creature weight more than anything else, but pigs just reproduce a ton faster. the biggest limiting factor for me was just not seeing any pigs around and inability move them around because vanilla animal movement is so limiting. I already decided I will be using animal cage mod for 300 days. Since that will allow me to move animals around, I will take time to find some pigs. Bears are just a little too aggressive for my liking. They aren't like that in real nature and I feel they need to be toned down a little to represent their real life counterparts. I am glad you are enjoying my videos. I will keep making them albeit a bit slow. Family, jobs and kids will do that to you:) until the next one though. Cheers!
@VaporwaveTears
@VaporwaveTears Ай бұрын
Tysm for this comment! When I would search you up on YT it would autofill to Oscilloscope. I didn’t think to make the connection. 🤣 That’s rly cool! Tysm for the help. Mb in your next vid would could pronounce your name? Ik it’s a bit much, but I have trouble reading. So I had a hard time fully piecing it together. It is very annoying how awkward & inconsistent spawning areas are. One of the few things tht annoys me abt the world generation. Given this is trying to be a more realistic take on TOBG. It would be neat for Tyron to introduce the ways ancient humans used to lure animals. Bc there is no way on Earth early ppl smacked the animal & ran towards the pen. (Lmao tht conjured a rly funny image in my mind-) I get wht you’re saying on creature weight to fat ratio and agree. I’m excited to see your better animal luring experience come 300 days! 😅 I also agree on the bears being waaay too aggressive. I also think it’s so strange they spawn in plains or gravel biomes. They usually prefer mountainous forests. I’ve come face to face w/ bears in my life. All you had to do was keep your distance & move on. Same w/ wolves, they’re notorious for being averse to humans. I totally understand bears being too much to tackle in the way I normally do. I’m a pretty hardcore player, evident by my pets. 🤣 Always do wht you feel is best. I love this game bc of all the ways you can play it! Tysm once again! Always take your time on these videos. Gotta keep tht work life balance afloat. 😸
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape Ай бұрын
I usually pronounce my name at the outro, when I say "but for now Oscillacape is beaming out." I don't know what Tyron wants to do with animal capture but he needs to do something. I would almost rather sacrifice some realism for the sake of convincing when it comes to animal capture. And yes, bear frequency is also way too large. They are everywhere. In real life there is only one near per 10 square miles. I was always bad with work life balance, I tend to push myself too hard when it comes to my personal creative hobbies!
