It is time for another 100 Days video for Vintage Story. This time around, the world was started with an idea of a long term commitment. This is the world that I will play for 200...300...400...500 days and even further. However, before any of that, the first 100 days will capture my journey from nothing to a bad-ass mansion. Hop aboard, we got a house to build.

Me too, just have to boot up creative again and come up with something first! The chiseling was fun for the most part. That's part of the appeal of a long term project. In my regular 100 days there is no way I am spending that much time on chiseling especially the interior.

What I love about your vintage story videos is that it feels like those old, vanilla minecraft let's plays where almost nothing is staged. Where the youtuber is actually enjoying the game they're playing with little outside interference. It feels entertaining and cozy in a personal way. Keep up the great work Oscillascape, this is gods work right here.

10:00 there is a recipe book in Vintage Story, press the H key by default, go to the blocks and items tag and type in the item you want to make.
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 4 ай бұрын
I knew this point would be misconstrued. I know there is a recipe book, I just want one where you can click on a recipe and it transfers into your crafting grid similar to Minecraft.
@shakeyourtailmedia
@shakeyourtailmedia 4 ай бұрын
@@Oscillascape Ah, I see, I get where you are coming from, but I think that a one click solution kinda defeats the point of having a crafting grid, if you could just select the item you want to craft and automatically use all required components then why have the crafting grid in the first place.
@Oscillascape

@@shakeyourtailmedia I suppose. It's fine either way. Vintage Story recipe book is good enough!
@NethanielShade
@NethanielShade 3 ай бұрын
@@shakeyourtailmedia Fully agree with you, there. On the one hand, it's nice that it was added as an accessibility option for some people, but on the other hand it completely changed Minecraft's crafting from the nostalgic mysterious crafting grid it used to have, to a Terraria-like "have the resources and press a button" crafting system.

@shakeyourtailmedia so minecraft shouldn't have a grid because of jei?.. idkkk seems a little black and white. the games pretty hard already and just being able to craft easier isn't making the game easier.. only more accessible and less tedious

The plains and Valleys mod is my favorite terrain generator, looks a lot better than the default noise terrains. Anyway, few things I noticed: 1. You almost always seem to have something in your offhand. You already probably know, but this increases saturation burn, which is pretty detrimental when you already have problems with food. 2. There are mods that seem to showcase light levels and spawn-able location of drifters. Might be pretty useful against the headache of getting shanked every time you enter your base. (Spawn Highlight is the most up to date) Looking forward for the next episodes.
@Oscillascape

Honestly, food isn't that huge of an issue. I could micro manage it better with the offhand and all that, but I would rather be lazy. Someone already mentioned the light level mod and I will absolutely use it in the future. I would love to have a rift ward instead but Jonas tech is still in a bad place.

Was trying to edit my post on my phone and accidently deleted it. I was able to check the plains and Valleys comments again. It's more landscale cover and less upheavel, I posted this when I was sick and unable to get to my computer to check the settings so went off my hazy memory. Basically landcover scale will give you larger continental areas with inland seas, and keeping upheavel at default or lower will allow lake not to be filled in. I tested this and the only upside of more upheavel is some more dramatic valley areas that are colder.

you can turn of the storms with /worldconfig temporalStorms [off] and no more storms or /worldconfig temporalRifts [off] so there are no more drifters in your house or out side only underground but then you are on easy mode

I know you want to keep this playthrough mostly vanilla, but if losing everything due to the items despawning is something you're not a fan of, a mod by the name of "Player Corpses" is a good one. It generates a corpse at your death location and stores your items within, not allowing them to despawn.
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 4 ай бұрын
I am not playing modless in fact I am using a few like Stone Quarry and Plains and Valleys. I am down to add mods to this world over time if they make sense. But corpse despawning is part of the challenge!
@Runovaris
@Runovaris 4 ай бұрын
@@Oscillascape In that case, you could raise the despawn timer a bit. Now that you have the world already made the command for that is /worldConfig droppedItemsTimer [number] Measured in seconds (default: 600, equivalent to 10 minutes)
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 4 ай бұрын
@@Runovaris It's ok, 10 minutes makes it interesting and honestly with all the infrastructure I have now. Losing my gear isn't the biggest deal. Maybe once I have rare armour.

I read all the comments and no one has mentioned that this area is temporally unstable. Do I have to be the bearer of bad news? Although it can't be too bad of a problem, since even with the gear constantly going backwards at home, it never seemed to go down. I loved watching this and look forward to 200 days.
@Oscillascape
@Oscillascape 4 ай бұрын
Haha you got me bud. I had to use Stability Chunk Override to solve that issue. It's a mod that lets you lower the instability of the chunk without turning off the mechanic entirely. I didn't mention it because I didn't feel it was that important for my narrative. But I guess if someone actually wants to play the exact same seed, they will have an unpleasant surprise. I think surface stability is a bad mechanic. There is no counter play besides looking for somewhere else to settle. For caves it's fine, but for the surface it's silly. That's why you see the gear turning. It's an artifact of the mod. But yes without it the area is unstable.

I understand the appeal of Skyrim like graphics, but a voxel (block) design is very open ended. You can build and design virtually anything if you scale the resolution high enough. Just look at people creating whole galaxies in Minecraft. That is something a Skyrim like design is not capable off.
