Just "found" this video, oh man that is so frustrating to have a new puzzle with such a huge chunk missing 😮Even worse because you were speedpuzzling, I mean who expects that? So good of the store to refund you - I hope Ravensburger fixes it with them. Also hope you can maybe find that puzzle again so you can have it glued and framed if you want to? Or even just because then you can at least finish it... I recently did three Ravensburgers - all bought new, all had issues unfortunately. One 300 piece came half pre-assembled. The weirdest thing, just whole chunks were stuck together in the bag - they weren't cut through properly. Ended up doing that myself, but that was my first speed run ruined lol. Then with another I had 3 extra edge pieces. The whole time I was puzzling I was expecting to have missing pieces, but thankfully there weren't any. Now I'm left wondering who has the same puzzle but is missing those three edge pieces 😂 And then finally I did a 200 piece puzzle where a lot of the twos (those standard pieces with two nubs) were bent out of shape. So that one just won't lie flat and some of the pieces don't connect properly. Extremely frustrating, especially because it's not what I expect when I buy a new puzzle (Ravensburger! Come on!).

Wow! You have had quite a few unfortunate circumstances. It's one thing when you get damaged or missing piece from a used puzzle but with a new puzzle it is very frustrating. Hope this doesn't happen again.
@purplecat745713 сағат бұрын
@@thepuzzlingcanadian It was quite a coincidence to have that happen three times in a very short time. Never happened before, and I do quite a bit of puzzling, both new and used. I've had the occasional missing piece with a used puzzle, or slightly damaged pieces with the cheaper brands, but nothing like this - thankfully! Making a new puzzle should just be fun and relaxing, and it's disappointing when you're let down like that. With used puzzles, I approach those differently and sort of expect the worst I suppose...

Spilsbury offers some 1,000 piece puzzles that measure 24" x 30" with pieces that are slightly larger than the most common puzzle piece size for 1,000 piece puzzles. Spilsbury specifies the size of their puzzles on their internet site. I find these puzzles particularly enjoyable to work. A recent one I purchased but have yet to work is "Brown Barn Farm." In my opinion, random cut puzzles are the very best! I love the variety of shapes of the puzzle pieces. That variety contributes to my enjoyment in working the puzzle. I only buy grid or ribbon cut puzzles when I just absolutely fall in love with the image and can't find that image in a random cut puzzle.

All Bits & Pieces puzzles are random cut. I don't do their 1,000 piece puzzles any more - the random cut tiny pieces give me the yips. They have some nice Halloween and Christmas images and I do those in 300 and 500 pieces. The piece style I hate is the two innies two outies grid cut. I wish puzzle companies would mark the puzzle cut on the box.

I love rndom cut! I also grew up doing (vintage) Springboks. I think peoples' preferences may come down to what they first worked. I do not think random is harder; it just suits my style which seems to be a lot of attention to shape. I hate rigidly 2in/2 out puzzles...they look like soldiers lined up and so BORING.

I love that you challenge yourself. My brain also does not do well with random cut, so maybe I should try it more often. I recently did an Eeboo round puzzle with funny shaped pieces, loved that. I know Cloudberries also has random cut puzzles, but not all of them (maybe check their website?). I have heard Bits and Pieces have random cut puzzles. Also Masterpieces have some random cut, but definitely not all of them. There's a puzzlewarehouse blog post on brands that feature random cut that you may find useful. 🙂 Edit: I just remembered watching a video of Emilee (the casual puzzler) with a Pomegranate round puzzle that has hexagonal-shaped pieces.

I try to stay away from random cut puzzles as well. A big reason for me is that often they do not lock together like a grid cut does. It’s not a hard no for me if I really like the image but it’s just not as enjoyable for me. Thanks for the great video.

You can also look into the Crazy Shapes collection from Trefl which is on the extreme end of the random shape spectrum. Not sure if you mentioned White Mountain but the only puzzle I got from them is random shapes. Some round puzzles would also qualify as random shape as far as I am concerned as well as most wooden puzzles.

Puzzle companies should label their puzzles with the piece cut description (preferable with a picture) if they offer a variety of puzzle cuts. For example, Sunsout 1000 "Sea to Shining Sea" puzzle is random cut. However, it is clear that some of the Sunsout puzzles are grid cut.

Hi Sandra, I absolutely love random cut, I just wish more new puzzle companies would make random cut puzzles. There are not a lot of random cut out there that I know of anyway (that are really good quality). Cobble Hill and The Magic Puzzle Company are the only random cut I have in my collection. After over ten years of puzzling, I know exactly what images are going to bring me the most pleasure so whenever I try to go for something different, I end up either passing over it time after time or starting it and not enjoying it so I quit working it. However I try new brands as much as possible. After watching your video, I will now examine my collection and see what I am missing out on. ❤
