Elvis has been one of the greatest song writers of his generation. Still going strong almost 50 years later, just played here in Detroit last night with Daryl Hall. I’ve seen him live with just about all his incantations, The Attractions, With Nick Lowe, The Rude Five, etc. Great live act.

Great stuff Andy, long time Stooges fan here from Ann Arbor. Also a Pistols and Elvis Costello fan so looking forward to that video. Also, another influence on Iggy’s stage presence was when he saw the Doors play in Ann Arbor and how Jim Morrison was fucking with the frat boys in the audience. You’ve probably seen that interview with Iggy where he talked about that and what an impression it made on him. New subscriber. Keep up the good work!
@AndyFenstermaker8 сағат бұрын
Oh definitely! I think there were a few pivotal moments that led to his stage presence, that Doors show being one. Thanks for chiming in and checking out the vids!

I don't normally like all-in-ones but nice to see there being some options for the casual collector that aren't riddled with cheap plastic bits. Most ppl aren't trying to spend $2500 for the andover/pro-ject all-in-one lol. This looks reasonable for a beginner that is not comfortable buying used and can't spend over $300 total for turntable/amp/speakers.

I like the music, nice kinda 80s vibe, I can see it being foundational. The vocals were kind of annoying honestly, like if Quentin Tarantino decided to sing as a young man. If it wasn’t for the singers voice I would have explored their other albums. Not for me, But I’m still fond of you.
@AndyFenstermaker3 күн бұрын
The Quentin Tarantino description made me lol. Definitely an 80s vibe; after all, they only released albums back then. Though even lead singer Moz's stuff that followed, I would argue, still had that 80s vibe. Glad you enjoyed (the review). They were foundational in their influence on future music for sure, most notably underground waves of indie pop and indie rock. Thanks for circling back and sharing your thoughts!

I agree that Sister is probably better than Daydream Nation - it's my 2nd favorite Sonic Youth album, behind EVOL (1st SY LP i ever heard/owned).

Im in Japan right now where Vinyl records are 500-1000¥ which is less than 10 bucks. I got myself some really rare records for 50$ for what would’ve cost me hundreds of dollars in the U.S. if you’re into it I would go to record stores while traveling outside of the US to get some cool records
@AndyFenstermaker9 күн бұрын
THIS! Back when I lived in Washington, I’d head to Vancouver BC regularly. The exchange rate was great and I scored some gems for a lot less than I’d pay in the US too! Japan has a really great indie music subculture as well that would be great to dive into while visiting - I’ve imported a few indie pop albums and singles from there over the years.

Dang, all of that info I've been adding to my Discogs Notes section I could have been adding to their own categories or fields. Obviously this only works on a PC though. You definitely can't do this on an Android Discogs app. I oftentimes run out of room in the Notes section where you can only type up to 255 characters. I wish I had known about this before because I would have definitely used the computer and did things this way. I'm an organized and detailed nerd myself :-) Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
