"My Aim Is True," "The Angels want to wear My Red Shoes." "Watching the Detectives." Elvis Costello was played on college stations.

Elvis has been one of the greatest song writers of his generation. Still going strong almost 50 years later, just played here in Detroit last night with Daryl Hall. I’ve seen him live with just about all his incantations, The Attractions, With Nick Lowe, The Rude Five, etc. Great live act.

You forgot to say what happened to poor old Clover. They became Huey Lewis’s News.

Yep! Definitely should have included that in the vid.

I think that first album, recorded with Clover, is a masterpiece. But I also think that second album is a masterpiece. Both of them are brilliant, and most of his albums are, whoever the other musicians are. The stunt on SNL had a lot of background to it. It was about the state of radio at the time, the censorship of acts like the Sex Pistols, and it was also a reference to Jimi Hendrix- Hendrix did the same thing on live TV when he decided to do a tribute to Cream who had recently broken up. Elvis used the exact same words as Hendrix when he abruptly changed the song on air on SNL.

5:48 - Most Yanks assumed "Mr. Oswald" was Lee Harvey! Rather than explain the difference Costello rewrote the song for American audiences with new JFK lyrics!

I watched that episode. I guess that makes me old, but not old enough to host SNL, apparently. *sigh*

😆 Same (about the old enough part) though I was still just a thought when this one aired 🤷♂️

In the UK "Radio Radio" wasn't on the album.

Yep! It wouldn't get onto This Year's Model in the UK album until the 1993 CD pressing!
