My parents n I were at the hospital back in the 80s where my 13 yr old nephew had cancer he was sitting at the table with the other kids keeping busy. One boy said to my mother lady is it ok if I could have 20c I want to buy something so mum gave the boy 20c he then said it’s really 40c could I please borrow 20c mum said you don’t need to borrow n smiled then the boy said my parents are too busy working. Lady thank you I love you he said your my best friend as he leaned over n gave that lady a kiss on the cheek. Mums little dear friend passed away that night in his sleep!

I’m honestly kind of conflicted about this whole thing. I know why they are painting primer to cover the graffiti, but I get why people put it there in protest. It would be better sure, to have murals and memorials but people who tagged the wall don’t likely have that luxury. Spray paint is cheaper than statues. On the other hand, getting together after that catharsis and rebuilding while inviting others to come support that makes community and citizenship possible. This should happen, but people are still angry and have a right to be. I appreciated that he made a point to suggest a canvas for a mural, especially since already people have made murals for victims of police brutality (Breonna Taylor has many). I think the graffiti should be recorded, but I understand why people don’t want it to stay there forever. Feeding, healing, empowering, and connecting people is radical and necessary. Rage is just and appropriate, but after it’s spent, people are gonna need help from their neighbors and we all need to be better neighbors. If you wanna march at protests, you need to also serve in community. The Black Panthers fed children breakfast because they knew it was another way to fight back that mattered. Don’t forget how radical and revolutionary connection and recovery can be.

I remember on my flight back from Texas, I had a little boy that sat next to me, who was exhausted ask me is it ok if I put my feet next to me because his seat didn't let back far. Without hesitation I said yes, I don't mind, and I made sure his feet didn't fall once. After the flight he said thank you and his father shook my hand and said thank you, you didn't have to do that, and I appreciated it more than you think. I told him I understand because I know how exhausting it is to be at an airport and to travel with family. Its ok, I fully understand and told him to have a safe trip home and to be safe. Kindness goes a long way.
