We’ve stayed in the two bedroom two bath cabin and loved it for if you have one or two little ones. You can shut the door after they go to bed and you still have use of the cabin and balcony.

I think this was a great summary of the two products. Honestly both are super nice in our experience and anyone would be fortunate to sail on either. We have future bookings on both. I personally find the room variety on the Haven nice and gives you flexibility especially if you’re traveling with little ones the extra space is nice.

Hey Emma and Jack We watched all your vlogs on the Norwegian Fjords before we did our first Fjords cruise and got some very useful tips and information from your videos. In particular the visit to Molo where my husband had factored into our day having a flight of beer, before reboarding our ship, just like you did and he loved it. We also had a burger here which was amazing and refuelled us after the 418 steps 🙂 So just wanted to say thank you for all your detailed information during your cruise and we can't wait to watch further videos. We will also be watching your Alaska cruise as this is also on our agenda at some point. This will be a longer journey for us being from the UK.

My dad is one of the Rangers at Glacier Bay. He's land based not on the cruises. My family is Tlingit and have spent thousands of years in glacier Bay/ Chichagof Island. As an Alaskan I'd buy a cheap car In Seattle, get on a ferry in Bellingham, and stay where you want and how long you want. I mean if you need a cruise experience for the luxury that's for you. But I don't think people on cruises really ever see Alaska

Agreed that you don’t really see all Alaska has to offer with a cruise and we had an amazing time on our roadtrip around the Kenai peninsula. Definitely would suggest that to anyone planning to visit Alaska.

Funnily enough, klippfisk was introduced to the area in the 1700's by a local trader that went to New England in America. As you saw, the normal way to conserve fish in Norway, was to salt it and put in barrels, or to dry it in special fish drying racks. These methods have been in use for at least 2000 years, vikings sold their dried fish in Europe. But this method, to lay the slaufghtered fish on the cliffs to dry was seen as nonproductive, but it was a hit, of course most of the fish was dried in racks, still is, but the NewEngland way became a hit in Kristiansund. So this was an early import from the British colonies in America, nowadays it is Ålesund that makes the most klippfisk.(cliff fish)

Christmas eve is not like Christmas day, you do get your Christmas presents on Christmas day, yes, but that is in the evening. Stores are mostly open on Christmas eve, until 1,2 or 4 in the afternoon, but they are closed on Christmas day. There are mass inn the church on Christmas vee, twice, during daytime and in the evening. On Christmas day it is morning mass at 7, regular mass at 11 and afternoon mass in the afternooon, Boxing day is also a holiday with shops closed. So hearing that shops and churches were closed on Christmas eve in Honningsvåg really surprised me. I have lived for more than 60 years in Norway

You guys asked about the benefits in higher suites - As much as they don't really advertise it, they definitely offer better amenities in the highest suites on MSC (Royal or Owners). On my last cruise, my butler showed me a few perks that would make other YC passengers give me the "I hate you" look. I'll skip the fact that these suites are around 1000sqft and the balcony area is insane. I'll just focus on a few added benefits. First they took me to a private cabana that was always reserved just for this suite and introduced me to a private bartender that only serves these two suites while we are in that area. Then they had a private Golf cart that was just for these two suites, right outside the ship. It would take us to and from the island, where we didn't have to wait in a line with other YC members. In my suite, they had 10 full-size bottles of premium alcohol (not the mini bar nonsense that everyone else gets) plus another 10 bottles of mineral/premium water. I could order from the main dining room from my suite, again a perk I was told was only available for Owners & Royal. And every day I came into my cabin to a huge basket of fruit. There were a few other amazing details I'll skip for now but probably the best story I got was when I went a bit late to their YC Breakfast Dining... I don't remember why but their Breakfast, in the main dining, ended at 10am and I was there 45min late (I'll blame this on the stocked bar I raided the night before)...In front of me was a couple that was having a really bad argument with the attendant there, who kept telling them how sorry he was but the Breakfast has been closed for 45min. They were getting really irate when I noticed the Maitre'd come out from the dining room. He began to explain to them that there is no way for them to come inside as the breakfast has been closed for some time now and there are no exceptions...As they were yelling obscenities at him, he noticed that I was standing behind them focused on my phone. At which point he shouted out "Mr K! Are you looking to have breakfast in the dining room this morning?"...I told him, "Yeah, if it's not a problem". He replied "Absolutely, right this way sir", and proceeded to open the locked door for me to walk in...The lady from the couple that was in front of me shouted out "what in the f was that?" and the Maitre'd responded "Oh, he's VIP"...Perhaps YMMV on some of these, especially the last one but this trip was definitely another level of YC, I had no idea existed. Someone later explained to me how this works on MSC with a simple quote - "All MSC Yacht Clubbers are equal, but some MSC Yacht Clubbers are more equal than others".

How is the beer in Norway?
@faust82
@faust82 9 күн бұрын
Some of the best and some of the worst 😂 The macro lagers/pilsners range from horrible to decent. Lately a couple of the craftier breweries have also gotten in on that game, so you can get very decent and (for Norway) reasonably priced pilsners from for instance Lervig and Haandbryggeriet. Other very good breweries include Kinn, Nøgne Ø, 7 Fjell and Amundsen. There's too many to mention all. The older and more industrial breweries (Ringnes, Hansa, Mack, Aass, Dahls) have some decent ones, but a lot of mediocre lowest-common-denominator. The best of Norway in my opinion are the heavy dark beers (Imperial Stouts and Porters in the 10-17% range). Lervig's Rackhouse series is spectacular if you like barrel-aged. Nøgne Ø does the Dark Horizon, which is a series of limited edition releases every few years. The 1st edition was released in 2006, and I believe we are due for the 9th soon. In Ålesund, Molo is a must-visit. Good burgers, awesome beer (brewed on-site). If you're looking for a small and relaxed bar with a good beer selection, try Ta Det Piano on the eastern side of the city centre.
