Bottom line Colby was a decent fighter, never a HOFr but has been gifted upper level fights only because he's a Dan and Trump boot licking lapdog!

He shouldn't get a title fight off beating a short notice, washed guy who has 0 significant wins in the last 5 years. Give Buckley Gerry next. That's great fight.

I would say give him Leon next and headline London. He came out of that fight with Covington pretty unscathed for a quick turn around. Also I want to point out that his path to the to is similar if not the same as Sean Brady, Shavkat, Ian, and JDM. They’ve all have beaten the guys who were at the top of the division for years. Buckley beaten a former interim champion and title challenger in Wonderboy and Covington, JDM and Brady beat a former title challenger in Gilbert Burns, and Brady also beaten a former title challenger in Gastelum who albeit hasn’t been what he once was since his loss to Izzy. But my main thing he’s essentially in the same spot as everyone else and we can’t sit here and pretend that Shavkat didn’t finish an old Wonderboy and Geoff Neal 😭😭 simply put I would put Buckley’s stoppages over Covington and Thompson over the other new gen fighter that was mentioned

At UFC on Fox: Shogun vs Vera (2012) Dana said whichever LHW had the best performance would get a rematch against Bones. Both Shogun and Machida won their fights by KO, and UFC booked Jon vs Hendo for the now infamous UFC 151.

The cardio was his only “advantage” plus he only truly fought older competition , even Usman. My mind was blown when I realized the stat of Buckley already fought more than Colby even tho Colby been in the UFC for longer

Colby made the choices he made because he felt that was best for him and his money, his future etc. I kind of agree with what Matt brown said, which was that once Colby realized he could get huge opportunities with this shtick, and he started cashing much bigger checks, he probably lost some of that drive that made him a great fighter.

I see moronic commenters are saying "He beat old, washed up RDA"... RDA was 32 years of age when he fought. On a 3 fight win streak. And they fought for the interim belt. He had won every single welterweight fight he had been in at that point. Even FIVE years after that he beat Moicano by UD. People are such morons.

Colby isn’t the champion cherry picking old guys for title defense and holding up a division. Colby also stepped up on his own to take this short notice.

His résumé is what it is because he was content to wait around for big fights and rely on his character to land him opportunities instead of racking up more relevant wins in his prime. The argument on whether he was elite or not, on purely a skill level, is trivial in my opinion because he clearly demonstrated high level skills. If the judges give Colby the third round against Usman in the second fight, he likely gets his hand raised and holds undisputed gold, and the whole narrative around his career changes. Coming in second doesn’t make you elite but his skills were clearly right there with the best at the time. Usman was likely in his prime during their fights and Colby was not better, but very close.

With context, his only good win ever was RDA. I believe he could have beaten prime Woodley, but he was unlucky not to get his shot. So, I believe he could have proven to be elite, but based on his on-paper resume, he can still be said to be very good.

And he was inactive. If he was active and had a huge camp then he would be a solid top 5 guy. He was ostracised and couldn’t improve his skillset without training day in and out with t10 guys

@zippo_muk9254 4 күн бұрын
If you’re top 10 then you are elite… top 30 in the UFC is still the top 0.01% of fighters. That’s elites. He fought for the title numerous times. Usman did cheat. Judges don’t like his values and neither does Luke which is what this whole thing is about.

Obviously yes but now he is not in his prime He has gotten weaker, slower, lost cardio and has spent more time gambling and hooking up with youtubers than improving his graplling and mma skills. The division has lapped him. Usman is srill somewhat elite, he still a top 5 fighter. Colby on the other hand is done, he needs to retire
