IF you move to Sweden, prepare for social isolation. You will NOT make any Swedish friends. Expats usually hang out with other expats. This is just as good, because Swedes are extremely boring philistines, you dont want them as friends anyway. Swedes are narrow minded and all of them think the same way, like the same things, deviance is unacceptable. Nature is beautiful, it is peaceful, you will be left alone (no friends, no invitations for anything), if you can accept that then OK. Check out the blog Don't go to Sweden, for real expats telling you the truth of socialist-zombieland.

As long as you have the following in it, you're home: Mayonnaise is the cream of the Smörgåstårta, therefore bring a LOT! Prawns Roast beef Ham Cheese Eggs some sort of lettuce Smoked salmon Some people also use skagenröra between the layers and that is such a great idea! (Lemons are optional) For the bread, many people use formfranska but I promise you, Hönökaka is way better because that bread has more taste to it. I tasted a big nono once, canned tuna on it and that's awful! :D

When I lived at home we had yellow pea soup and pancakes after every thirsday, that is traditional Swedish husmanskost (traditional meal). I was very comon to eat this earlier when there where more farmsteads as it is cheap and a good way to use cuts of pork that is to nice to be dog food but to smal or akwardly shaped pieces can´t be used for other stuff.

Palt which is from Northern Sweden generally doesn't contain spices.. If you add the allspice and onion to your pork and making a dough out of boiled potatoes and wheat flour.. You technically are making Smålandic kroppkakor from southern Sweden. Not palt.. Ölandic kroppkakor.. Always has raw potato in the dough.. And Palt.. from the beginning was just boiled barley dough. Pork filled barley dough... Or blood and barley. (Blood palt) So from the beginning there was a larger difference between all the dumplings.. Now people from Norrland also add potatoes to their dough.. And they probably don't know that that wasn't there to begin with.

Haha... you are right about the queue thing. I am norwegian and if you are a room with queue tickets you will see people spreading out like they have a secret cooperation to keep the floor level or something. Maybe this is from the nordic seafaring past....hmmmm? haha.

I have never worked on a place where I have to take my shoes off. But for shore in winter time when you have warm and thick boots, it is comfortable and more healthy to take them off and put on indoor shoes when you are in the office all day. 👍

Ok, Systembolaget is not open on Sundays or at night, but is that really a problem? All you have to do is stack up on your own. Have a couple of bottles of wine or beer or whatever to your liking to cover for your surprise guests and you're fine! On the positive side "Bolaget" has a very big assortment of brands and kinds of alcohol in stock and if there is something they don't have you can order it in advance and they will get it for you.

Swede here. Number 2: I will happily admit that the Finns are better at organization and schools and a lot of other stuff, and the Norwegians are smart with their oil-money and better at wintersports (except hockey). And both of them were tough as nails during the second world war. The Danes on the other hand... 😉

Just found your channel, and yes, mostly Swedes watch "youtubers that moved to Sweden" type videos. What gets me is how people find my country, its interesting on the one hand, and on the other the urge to help is strong, so if someone has a question or an issue with something we get a kick out of helping, even if its just a few sentences in the comment field, googling an official form or contact info. Not many expat tubers in your area though (You said Gothenburg area, right?), most of the foreign youtuber community here is further north (I blame Jonna Jinton =)) or around Stockholm. The ones up north usually has off-grid content with cheap properties and nature and the Stockholm ones are more of the city dwelling type. I´d say use your location to grow your channel. Do walkarounds of Gothenburg, day tours up and down the west coast (Strömstad to Varberg) with the beautiful archipelago, the restaurants, cafés, museums, towns etc. Not much content on YT showing our area wich is a total shame, as it literally is the best place on earth. Looking forward to when you get back on here, maybe this spring?

The thing about "Jantelagen" is that it is about not being a braggart. There is a lot of people who kind of have questioned this notion because it also lead to a lot of problems. .I mean.. you SHOULD be allowed to have achievements and actually enjoy them. Jantelagen wasn't REALLY suppsoed to be against this, but.. it is.. about "Lagom". Which is a word which most nations understand what it means if we say "moderation", but reality is that it isn't just an upper limit. Lagom ALSO means that.. you ARE allowed to partake.. that.. you have at least the same right as OTHERS to enjoy things.. so.. saying it means "just about right" is a good way to express it, because it is about avoiding excesses, but also.. about avoiding selfdeprecation. . and Jantelagen (The literal "Law" is: "Du ska inte tro du är någon".. which in english would literally be translated to "You shouldn't think you are someone.. ".. and.. and.. it's unfortunate as it only point out the problems with being full of yourself without putting any form of.. "floor" where you shouldn't go UNDER either.. to remember that you ARE ~someone~.. just not better than others).. When it comes to alcohol.. Sweden is actually a very diverse nation (as you noticed when it comes to different cities having different cultures when it comes to small-talk), but that is also very much the truth when it comes to alcohol. I tend to ramble on for way too long, but I think that Swedish alcohol-culture has become rather.. polarized, and it isn't a new thing. It kind of started during industrialization where the actual owner of the "factory" usually owned the store (hey, gotta love the song "16 tons", and also usually he owned a distillery, so.. MOST people who worked in factories had their actual salary, but ALSO got part of their payment in booze. This lead to a lot of socio-cultural revolution with various churches or even non-religious organizations starting up talking about alcohol as being a "scourge".. which lead to "Systembolaget" and a very ambivalent view on alcohol. Mashing all this together we'll find that we are a nation that enjoys our drink, and hate ourselves for it. SOME people are completely sober. .some drink WAY too much, because they feel like they aren't allowed to just. ."drink".. they need an excuse.. It's.. a birthday. .it's.. saturday.. you need a "hook" that you can hang your drinking on to excuse it.. but when you ARE allowed then you are allowed, hence.. instead of moderating our own behaviour it tend to become a wild-man's land WHEN we drink.. but yeah; That is the most.. "visible" part of Swedish alcohol culture and I think pretty much every Swede REALLY would say that "Lagom DO apply to alcohol consumption aswell, it is just not those people that are out on a satur day night drinking, it is the ones who go to a restaurant and have a couple of glasses with dinner.. and then go home and drink nothing else.. so.. There are probably MORE Swedes that drink in moderation (at least MOST of the year, the office Christmas party is kind of a situation where it's close to MANDATORY to drink).. But the people who drink in moderation are the people that you won't even see; But seriously.. ALL different ideologies when it comes to alcohol consumption exists over here.

You forgot something that is VERY important: ALWAYS take the ludd out of the torktumlare in the tvättstuga! And ALWAYS put your kaffekopp in the diskmaskin at your work (because your morsa does not work there).

There's one rule, and one rule alone when you are north of Dalälven, and that is "köpekagor". When you plan to visit your neighbours or friends, you, bring, the, fikabröd!! And that is equal!

I always wave to cars when I cross the street. Live in Göteborg and some people wave, some don't. Though secretly it's a little bit of "Hey I've wave at you, that means I see you and now you can't run me over". Just a little bit.
