Those are really versatile. You had me at magnetic back. I sometimes shoot in abandoned prisons (lgeally) and the ability to put a small, powerful light onto a jail cell metal door and direct light inside would be extremely useful.

And I purchased a Deardorff 8x10 from a guy in Pennsylvania and a 300mm petzval from France. So I will probably use paper to shoot 8x10. Thanks for the video.

@@chriscard6544 Agreed about the price being likely an issue for some (I got this as a review piece via Fstoppers), especially if you only develop a roll or two a month. However, in terms of value over time, I find myself seeing some other development tools skyrocketing in price to the point where the AGO seems fairly reasonable. I feel like I written a lot of gibberish just to say that yes, I definitely understand what you mean ha And that's awesome about the Deardorff. Fairly jealous of the Petzval as well!

That's actually a very good question and one I hadn't considered. I would suggest using it with the frosted diffuser and likely no negs larger than medium format 6x7 at the largest. The joy of using this camera is like a good whiskey - needs to be savored and enjoyed. I was able to pick up a used EX+ X1D II for 5K less than the new X2D. Then I got a XCD 4.0 45mm P for less than 1K and also caught a special and got the XCD 3.2 90mm for less than 2K. So I got my budget kit for 95% of my photography. I am considering getting a cheap Nikon F to XCD converter to take advantage of all my old Nikon lenses. Moving up to this camera produces stunning images and the color science is second to non. Now I just smile when I got out for a shoot. I just had to be patient and find options that fit my budget. I also can write these off as a business expense which is a bonus. Still it hurts the pocket book. I would have loved to get the 1.9 80mm but that would have required more $$$. You gave a very honest review. But having the camera in my hands, it speaks to me, seduces me, and makes me want to create.

a tip, if you have a leader, that you make, and clip onto the film with leader cut off square, then the process may go a little easier, just like loading the 'cans' of the Canon and Nikon 250/750 backs, so you have something to lock up to the spool with, and is consistent. Also you had a misfeed when you eventually closed up the tank, which may have prevented a clean 'spooling' of the film. having a separate leader means the loading is assured, as you can bow the film on entry [like with plastic Patterson reels], as there is enough space, so it finds the grooves, and saves wasting as much film; a good candidate for bulk loading film, where this 'extra' can be wound onto the film, and have the excess at the end, for this loading process.

With the exception of some professionals (almost) nobody needs such a camera with 100MP. The kind of images you show here could be done with every full frame camera which costs only a fraction of the Hasselblad. It's a "nice to have" instrument - not a necessity for good photography.

Interesting video. Have been considering doing a cyanotype on hand made paper which gives you the same problems as washi. The paper making process might be of help when you roll out your paper from the screen. With papermaking I put another screen on top and gently put a sponge over the wet paper and soak up the excess water. Do this until the paper is able to pull away from the screen. Hope this helps.
@AdamWelchАй бұрын
Thanks a lot, Sybille. Do you ever encounter any indentations from the screen with this method?

I didnt know anyone else used that back window door for the back counter, ive been using it for a long time. Actually there is a cable release adapter for the holga, i use it, its a square plastic thing. I use the step ring on all my plastic cameras, holga 135, lomo konstructor, etc, its great for expanding the aperture capabilities of this camera using color and ND filters. I think everything u describe here ive been doing for a while, good to know someone else is doing it. I try not to use the hood, sometimes it blocks the field of view. I also use the green bubble thing, but depend really on my tripod more. The back door foam is one of the most useful things out of all, i think it helps the film a lot. I usually just stick tape on the back for what film im using and write description. I have a holga with the same leatherette too, coincidence. I think the only two things i dont use are the strap lugs and the eye piece. I also used to flak the insides of the cavity but dont see much difference. The one thing if u have light leaks is to place a tiny flat foam in the shutter box at the shutter button from the inside.

@AdamWelch2 ай бұрын
Haha glad to hear it helped you out! As for Death Valley, if you've never been in the area the first time you witness just how vast the place is can be a bit overwhelming. I'm not sure how far off the blacktop you're planning on venturing but the only advice I can give is to of course be prepared with plenty of fuel, water, and food...but to also not underestimate just how established the main part of Death Valley is, especially in the Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells areas. There are restaurants, bars, golf course...pools, ect. It's not as inhospitable as it is made out to be by some. There is guess at the Stovepipe Wells store but it's alarmingly high, which is understandable really. I would highly recommend making the trip over to Death Valley Junction right on the border of the Park. It's a tiny town, getting sort of more well known now, the biggest draw is the Amargosa Opera house. Something to keep in mind is that when it's hot...it's HOT. Sure, a dry heat, but 125 is still 125 and in the summer it is brutally taxing on your body in places like the salt flats. Anyway, there quite a few backcountry places that I could tell you about IF that's something you may be planning on doing. Feel free to find me via the contact form at my website www.aphotographist.com with any questions along those lines and I'll help if I can. Best wishes to you and your own adventure!
