A+ diet. I really like this recipe and will definitely be using it for my cultures.

As someone looking to get this very vivarium for a tree frog/dart frog set up, can I ask why you replace the mesh top with glass? Is that essential?

Do the exo terras have a sort of divider on the mesh top? Does it pose any problems with placing the lights or heating elements?

I'm starting up a vivarium now and plan on getting 4 bumblebee tadpoles eventually. Assuming they all come from the same clutch, what are your thoughts on sibling breeding? I read that it happens but not sure if this is something most try to avoid.

Which of the Dart Frog species have the loudest croak? Which of them sound the best, like a large toad for instance?
@movieman29605 ай бұрын
Hey Josh. Does the croak of all of these Dart Frogs have a similar sound?
@NorthernFrogger5 ай бұрын
Yes, all of the tinctorius, and even all of the auratus (at least all the ones I've come across so far) have a similar quiet buzzing call.

This is the 5th frog commercial, er, video I have watched. Josh finally let me her one of the frogs croak. It's not the croak sound I wanted to hear in my house. There are small frogs like these in a seasonal creek and waterfall off of a hiking trail just outside of Newbury Park, CA. They are very loud and I love listening to them. I guess I'll have to find out what species they are and look for a place that sells them.

Great video! I have kept a trio of female azureus for the last 2+ years, no fighting at all, they seem to like hanging out together. I'm adding a male soon. I have a feeling that tensions are going to rise in the terrarium once the male is added but hopefully everything stays copasetic between the ladies. They really are a sweet group. I'm considering just getting a separate pair and keeping the 3 girls together since it's been going so well for 2 years now, it almost wouldn't be fair to let a man ruin that for them haha jk

I'm currently raising up some auratus tadpoles that I traded for 2 tarantula spiderlings (T. rasti). The first tadpole's second front leg just popped. I'm so excited to see them come out of the water as froglets. This is my first-time raising tadpoles and it's been an extremely interesting and rewarding experience. Thank you for the videos. Your channel has been a valuable resource for me while learning how to keep dart frogs in the best way possible. I really love these species spotlight style videos too!

Can you put two males/two females together or will tbey get aggressive? Im not trying to get a massive amount of eggs i cant do anything with.
@NorthernFrogger6 ай бұрын
It would be better to have two males, as the females are more likely to fight each other, but leucomelas aren't super territorial in my experience so two females would probably be ok together too, especially if they have enough space and there is no male to compete over.

So near the end of your video you said we can go ahead and add our fruit flies into our cultivation cup and add a lid. Two questions: 1) where am I getting these flies to add to these cups? Like ordering a culture and then subdividing them? 2) maybe I missed it but did you say how long the cultures sit before flies are harvested? I would love to see a beginning to end process for cultivating flies and how the cycle should be managed so as to have a constant replenishment going. I am excited to follow you!
@NorthernFrogger6 ай бұрын
Yes, you'll need to find a starter culture from an online supplier or another local hobbyist, and then you can use a single culture to start multiple new cultures. It takes about 2 weeks for melanogaster to start producing, and about 3 weeks for hydei

Planning on getting some dart frogs soon. Are the auto-misting systems a must or should I just go with manual misting? And if I do go with manual misting, how often should I expect to have to mist it? Btw, I live in Utah where the climate is very dry.
@NorthernFrogger6 ай бұрын
I would highly recommend an auto misting system, especially if you have a busy schedule or like to travel at all. It's good piece of mind even if you just want to go out of town for a weekend or something. But, it's not required, if you can provide a consistent misting schedule doing it manually, and you have someone that can take over the misting duties if you are not home, then manual misting can work fine too. It's hard to say exact frequency, as it will depend on your local climate and enclosure design, but 1-2 times per day is probably a good baseline to start, and then monitor humidity levels until you get a feel for how much is needed for your situation

Great video! I wonder if you only have a led light on the glass strip, does the light reach the upper back wall? It seems like the glass strip is too far to the front of the tank, so that the light does not have a chance to reach the back very good? And is the front lower vent fruit fly safe, or have you had flies escape through that?
