It would have to be aluminium since the bumper is aluminium..

Is there are reason why Grant uses the homemade tools to lock down the cam even though the engine is rotated 90° and gravity is doing the work?

Hi, yes, there is always pressure on the cams by the valve springs.

Good video up until the very end. Was a little short on showing what was adjusted to get the timing back in. All we saw was turning the crank sprocket, looking then tightening everything up . i think maybe a third video expanding on this piece would be helpful. ie Turn the crank and cam together until the cam is in the vertical plane, against the head. then loosen the four bolts in the slots so the cam doesnt move when the crank does, then turn crank until pin goes in . then bolt 4 bolts in slots down. I know it because i have done it, but for those who have never done it , it may be confusing. Great vid though.

I'm guessing that the steel structure didn't change between the 986 & 987 in that area where it mates up to the body. Someone on Planet 9 site did a flow test on the 987 airbox and it has the ability to support 420 HP; not that we'll get there naturally asperated anyway.

Important! 😮I just realized that I had forgot to transfer the stop collar from the oem shock to the new shock. This would have saved me some problems on the height adjustment on the carrier.
@charmcitybryan7 ай бұрын
Thanks very much for this video. I noticed you did not migrate the stop washers that set the OEM struts at the correct height in the wheel carrier over to the Bilsteins. I am in the process of doing this same install and can't tell if you need to. It would seem that these washers provide some support to the strut in the wheel carrier beyond the pinch bolt and definitely stronger than the small metal tab on the side of the coil over. Is that stop washer supposed to come from the OEM strut over to the coilover?

Hi, I added camber plates to the front since I was tracking the car and wanted maximum negative camber. You shouldn't need it to achieve factory settings though.

@NewArt1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Vicky, I must admit that I know little about the turbo engine. It is not an m96 engine but rather what we call a Mezger engine. That said, if the chain internals are similar, I would expect to see worn guide rails. Anything more than 6 degrees would signal time for a change. I suggest that you talk to a trusted Porsche indie.

Art, I'm wondering where you ran the power line for the trailer light adapter. I'm doing something similar with my new to me 987.2S, and I'm wondering where to go for the power connection. I previously did this with my 996, and connecting to the positive jump-charge post in the rear engine compartment was very easy. I'm not seeing easy options for my Cayman. I've enjoyed several of your videos. I'd appreciate any thoughts on where you ran your power line...fuse box with a fuse tap?
@NewArt1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, All wires were tapped directly into the relevant stop, indicator, etc wires near their corresponding tail light using T-taps. Only the ground wire needs to be attached to one of the bolts on the firewall under the carpet.
@stevel.2876 Жыл бұрын
@@NewArt1 My wiring harness has connections to tap into the tail light wiring plus a ground, and a power connection. I’m tracking down options for switched and non-switched power in the rear compartment. I found a auxiliary fuse panel in the back drivers side behind the carpeted panel with a 10 amp fuse. I’m thinking of putting a fuse tap on it. Don’t know yet if it is a switched circuit or a continuous circuit yet. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!

3:49 was the write-off covered by insurance? You may not have been racing, but you are driving at the limit where on a public road, you would not have been.
@NewArt12 жыл бұрын
Yes, the insurance covered the cost of the car. I wouldn't have been driving like that on a public road. At the track I wasn't breaking any laws and I wasn't racing nor was it a timed event.
@a.c.e.75682 жыл бұрын
@@NewArt1 But you were at a higher risk on the track compared to how you drive on public roads. When I bought my first Porsche back in 2009, I was surprised how cheap full coverage insurance was. The agent told me that "they do not get many claims". Great, I thought. The problem is I believe DE days should have to get extra insurance simply because there is a great chance of an incident like yours...that is then spread out amongst the rest of us not taking part in a DE.
@NewArt12 жыл бұрын
Crashes during DE days are actually fairly rare. I'm sure the insurance companies aren't losing money from these highly organized and controlled events. In the 8 years that I've been tracking, I've seen maybe 3 accidents, none of them as serious as mine. I see way more than that on public roads, highways and parking lots!
@a.c.e.75682 жыл бұрын
@@NewArt1 Simply because there are fewer cars on DE days and a lot more cars on public roads, highways and parking lots. Anyway, looking at the pic, damn that hurts. BTW, the pick-up video, those are always fun. I remember the day I picked my 993 up in another city.
