@@JeanietheEnglishTeacherDoes the boiling water phrase mean that that way is similar to this way the water which is boiling? But im mystified that does the water actually perform the action of the verb boil? And The most confusing thing is that the V-ing is common for the two of gerund and present participle .I have example “information, ideas, opinions, or images, often only giving one part of an argument, that are broadcast, published, or in some other way spread with the intention of influencing people's opinions” So first thing is that the “ only giving one part of an argument “ the word giving is the gerund or the reduction of the relative? Second, the word influencing is the gerund or present participle be used as an adjective-how can we distinguish these?Please,I would appreciate if you clarify these thoroughly❤🥰🥰.Mrs❤

@@JeanietheEnglishTeacher ....As per your recommendation,I have started practising grammar topics from Betty Azar books but the prepositions topic is not covered in any of those books...Could you please suggest any good books for prepositions?Prepositions topic is very difficult for me
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher 2 ай бұрын
@@theprince9035 Actually, prepositions ARE in the Azar books. In "Basic English Grammar," prepositions of time and location are addressed in Chapters 1, 2, and 3, and there may be more. I remember phrasal verbs being at the end of a number of chapters in "Fundamentals of English Grammar." Those are important uses of prepositions, so if you haven't practiced those yet in the Azar books, I recommend you do so. I don't have any book that is specifically about prepositions that I can recommend. Prepositions are difficult, and it's important not to try to translate from another language when learning them because they operate so differently in different languages. It requires a good bit of memorization, lots of input (reading, listening), and lots of practice.

Please clarify my doubt... I will watch the movie next Sunday.... In this sentence 1)what is the part of speech of "next"? 2)Is "next Sunday" a noun phrase/adjective phrase/preposition phrase/adverbial phrase I have same doubt with the phrase "last Sunday"
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher 6 ай бұрын
"Next" is an adverb here, and "next Sunday" is an adverbial phrase of time. The same is true for "last" and "last Sunday." These add time information to the clause, which is one of the functions of an adverbial phrase.

someone told me about this rule . In the "Active voice" Sentence with "transitive verb" but there is no "OBJECT". For changing into Passive voice we use "IT" as subject in passive voice. Active voice)--- 1) you buy in the market . 2) he is watching in cinema hall. 3) you have written in library. Here there is no object in these sentences so We used "IT" as "SUBJECT" in PASSIVE VOICE. 1) It is buy in the market by you . 2) It is being watched in cinema hall by him. 3) It has been written in the library by you. So question is )-- "IT" word is used as "Dummy Subject" OR used as "meaningful" (refferal "It") in passive. And This rule is correct or incorrect.
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher 6 ай бұрын
I don't agree with this "rule." If a verb is transitive, then there is a direct object. So, you can't talk about a transitive verb without an object. Let's talk about your example sentences. #1: "buy" is only a transitive verb, so the sentence you gave doesn't work (at least, not in American English). #2 and #3: "watch" and "write" are verbs that can be transitive OR intransitive. When you don't have a direct object, you are using the INTRANSITIVE verb "watch" or "write," not the transitive "watch" or "write." None of the sentences you give can be changed from active to passive. The sentence "He is watching it in the theater" can be changed to "It is being watched in the theater;" and "You have written it in the library" can be changed to "It has been written in the library." Also, "You buy it at the market" can be changed to "It is bought at the market." None of these "it" subjects are dummy "it," because the "it" is a referent to some specific item.

Mam as you taught some sentences related to "THERE " uses in reporting verbs. I have question for you please see it (THERE+ PASSIVE REPORTING VERB + TO BE+ etc..) In all the sentences made from this pattern, "THERE" word is used as an "Adverb of Place" or as a "DUMMY SUBJECT". I hope you help 🙏 me
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher
@JeanietheEnglishTeacher 8 ай бұрын
I don't actually see a question in what you wrote; remember to put the verb before the subject when asking a question! I think your question is: "Is 'There' an adverb of place, or a dummy subject?" In a sentence such as "There is said to be a large number of people who support the current president," "there" is not an adverb of location, because it is not referring to a place. It is a dummy subject. I hope that helps you!
