Notice the look on her face as the song ends, she comes back into our world. Total emotional commitment for a song about mercy killing. Two suggestions. First "Through the eyes of a child" from her masterpiece concert in the Nidarosdomen. Second, "Soul with no King", the Vevo arrangement. The first from her first album the second from her latest.

this is one of my all time favourite life performances ever. the simplistic staging and amazing vocals. its preformed in big venue but feels so intimate. at the end you could hear a pin drop the audience is so captivated. i love watching aurora opening her eyes like she just got back into her body. aurora has stated many times that once she releases her songs their meaning is what the listener finds. earlier in her career she didn't want to reveal her own interpretation because people would then tell others that hers was the only "right" one. she also likes having double or hidden meanings if you look at the lyrics with different perspectives. for murder song i recall her talking both about assisted suicide or someone in an abusive situation rationalising and making excuses for their abuser even to the end. sometimes i think its also about a parent wanting to protect a child from the world, preserving their innocence before the world can hurt them i hope you continue in your journey with aurora's music there is so much more to enjoy. love your goal for this channel and will definitely be coming back

Thanks, that was an awesome reaction and analysis! I think this performance3 is an absolute masterpiece, and I'm glad to see that you agree. That bridge section you talked about is my favorite, but I also really love both times she sang "he cries and cries" because it sounded like she was thisclose to crying herself, but without quite going there, so it still sounded very beautiful. It's just such an incredible way to sing that particular line. The interesting thing about her being only 19 and so refined already, is that she never set out to be an artist, and this is all self-taught. Her mother is the one who encouraged her to share her music with the world. In fact, at this point she hadn't even really fully committed to being an artist. She didn't like performing very much her first couple years, and she admitted more than once (even to the audience) that she was very nervous at this concert. I tend to think her anxiety helped her deliver such a powerful performance, because I think being so buried in the performance allowed her to forget the nerves for a few minutes. You can kind of see her coming back to reality at the end.
@art_by_accident2 ай бұрын
Aurora always leaves it open to interpretation. Suggesting, never insisting. Everything has a double or triple or quadruple meaning. Like Dylan or Cohen. Great poetry. She was young, and very nervous here. Getting lost in the music was her way to cope. Since then she has grown a lot more confident and relaxed, but her total command over the listener is the same. The latest released video, "A soul with no king (live at VEVO)" is on the same intensity level. Not as tense or nervous, more fluent, but with the same mastery of vocal expression. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWqYn5dva5WLqbs I haven't been to any of her concerts, but the general consensus seems to be that it's a transcendental experience.

This is the first song I heard by just Aurora the other year, although I had heard her singing vocals on Wardruna's, Helvegen before that. It just stopped me in my tracks, and I listened to it, over and over again. I was struck, by how such an apparently simple song, with such simple lyrics, and musical structure, could have such an impact on me. In fact, this is what started me watching reaction videos, which I'd never listened to before. To find out, was it just me, or did other people, also find it an extraordinary performance. I needed to find out more, and where Aurora was coming from. Being a long time environmentalist and nature lover, it proved to be a real rabbit hole. Strangely, enough, this led to me listening to Ren, who whilst apparently very different in style to Aurora, actually have a lot in common. The authenticity.

It was about a mercy killing that she read about in a newspaper. The husband went to jail. Aurora does a great variety of the types of music. She writes the vast majority of it herself. Her live performances are not to be missed but don't discount her video's. They are ..well very....Aurora-like, not to be missed. She's fun. And funny....someone that laughs at herself. She has over 100+ songs..poems written. She never intended to be a singer performer but she sang a song at school taking the 0lace of an assignment that she didn't do. A classmate recorded it and put it on social media and a couple of producers came to talk to her about trying to do a record deal and she refused. A little.later her mother said that her music made peo0le feel better like medicine. If she tried it and didn't like it she could always quit........"Runaway" went viral

I really enjoy your reactions to Aurora. She is my 2nd favorite singer in the world, right after ANOTHER Norwegian girl, namely Angelina Jordan. She is getting close to 19 now, but she won Norway's Got Talent just after she had turned 8. Then, for several years, America's Got Talent had tried to get her on the show, before she eventually said yes at the age of 13. She performed her own rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, which earned her the Golden Buzzer PLUS high praise from the remaining members of Queen. They pinned her performance on their social media and even gave her the copyright to her rendition. BUT...... At age 9 years 2 months old, she performed her OWN arrangement of the 1956 Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic "I Put A Spell On You". THAT is something you need to react to. And then maybe we can go from there. It would be a choice you'll never forget. And I can promise you that it is the best performance you're likely to see. Like in ever. It's THAT good. Live, with professional jazz musicians backing her. Please consider it?? I won't give you the link, because the video is really easy to find, and you can't go wrong. Have a wonderful weekend in the meantime, and take care😊 Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥ (And sorry to all Aurora fans, like myself, reading this and seeing that I promote Angelina. But if I know you right, I am forgiven ♥♥♥)

I like the phrase "conduits for expression" and will have to remember that. If you ask most people what makes a great singer they'll probably say something about pitch or range (which are nice tools to have for sure). Ultimately though what makes a great vocalist is someone who can make you feel something. Which really is the point of music to begin with.

Hi! I love Aurora. And the word innocence that you used is what really reaches me about her. She reminds me of how it feels to be innocent and idealistic. But she is also encredibly wise, generous and introspective. As you explore her you find she has so much versatility in her styles, but her idealism and love shines through everything. I get the impression that you like the really stripped down live experience. But I would be curious how you receive a couple of her more produced videos, because all of those qualities of hers still are all you see and feel even against a lot of production. I recommend viewing her videos "Queendom" and "Cure for Me". She has such a strong social commentary.

I spend several nights a week in small venues listening to the new and upcoming acts that desperately need the exposure reactors can provide to bring their art to the fore. Well done on making this your mission, if you want a whole load of indie rock & punk bands let me know but, Aurora: already gets a huge amount of love from us all, is incredibly well known & perhaps doing her back catalogue is an indulgence. I’d love to hear your thoughts on some of her more recent music as well. Thank you for helping me learn more about the magic of music!

Is it euthanasia (killing me for mercy) or is that denial? I mean it IS called "Murder Song 54321" not "Mercy Song54321". The bare bones simplicity leaves acres of room for the listeners' imaginations. "I'll protect you whether you want me to or not..." Also, Pedant says you literally don't know the meaning of "literally". Which is a relief, coz it means we get to see more reactions from you. ;)

Astrid S, also from Norway, just came out with two new cover songs for a show called Hver gang vi møtes. They're called Det regner i Oslo og Symfoni. I've been listening to Det regner i Oslo on repeat since I first heard it, would love to see you react to it!

Glad to hear your reaction to Aurora. She's amazing. As to my interpretation of this song, I have always thought that the singer is a captive, isolated person--isolated since a small child with this man. The man (the murderer) is mentally ill. His illness includes a paranoia about the wider world and, loving his young charge, he kills her as he senses the outside world encroaching on his secluded home. The singer knows nothing else but this "cabin in the woods" and loves the man as her father and truly senses his grief but that does not mean the man has acted rationally.

Definitely "It Happened Quiet", the "Live at the Current" version! The vocal beauty of the two voices is sublime, and the subject of the song is at least as gut punching as this one.
