I have a 46 or 48 (will check serial number)on a stand that I inherited. What would be a fair price? In decent condition I would say.

I’m not an expert by any stretch it seems they are going for anything from £600-£1000 depending on what’s going with them and the condition

A very concise and logical explanation on the downside of the Myford ML7 lathe. In Ontario Canada these are becoming less popular due to the resale cost of import 10x22 lathes. Yet we still see sellers trying to flog their middling example of a myford for over $4000. I keep toying with the idea of buying a myford to restore and modify, with a new filled and blocked paint job, new 3phase motor & VFD, new electronic lead screw and hand scraped ways. But then I have a chipmaster I'm giving that treatment. Maybe a super 7 would be worth the effort but nah I cant see an ML7 in my future for all the reasons you state

Really imformative for us newbies. Got an ml7 gifted to me which I love messing around on and restoring. Do you have any idea if the standard old school tail stock is adjustable in any way. All the best from Norfolk uk

I ran a Colchester Chipmaster for 20 years. It has approximately the same footprint as the Myford, however the Colchester weighs half a ton. Center height is over 5in, headstock bore is over 1in. Top speed of 3,000rpm and many more goodies. My Colchester cost me £500!

It's not going to run unless you put oil and steam to it... Do you hear that metal to metal sound??? That metal to metal sound is a warning that it needs oil and if you try running it without oil you will blow it up

I;ve gone for a Drummond lathe which Myford took over for war production around 1940 & called it the ML4 it is smaller & lighter than the ML7 which is a bonus as I can [with some parts removed] pick it up & move it on my own, it will do all I need of it & when I built a 5" simplex I made tools jigs as I went as special parts tooling were not available, I did have a Raglan Little John at first I never needed the larger capacity & it took 3 men [again parts removed ] to move it

Hello William, I like your lathe, one can manufacture lots of parts on it, all the complaints you mentioned shouldn't have been raised, I own a Hercus 9-inch lathe with tapered roller bearings, I purchased it brand new in 1973 and I still have it as of august 2024. now a days one can buy third party accessories on eBay for hobby lathes at reasonable prices for example taper turning attachment that mounts in the tail stock, plus a ball turning attachment, there are many other attachments. As a note a good machinist never blames his tools.😃

This is a very good introduction to the topic. Now, if you could see your way clear to making a video on how to make a Myford collet that would be doing humanity a service and would provide yourself with an additional collet - which I am sure you need.

Great video. I really like the oilers. I have all the upgrades you mentioned except for the tool post. I've had my 1952 ML7 for 17 years and have used the original "boat type" and four-way tool post for many years. I fabricated a QCTP from scratch, about 3 years ago, using plans from the internet. I would never go back to the four-way post, but we all have our own opinions.
