I have been crocheting since 1975, I have worked with Red Heart in the past, and absolutely despise them! I guess the yarn has improved in the last 50 years, but I would rather buy Caron Cakes or Lion Brand. I will not be trying this yarn. Ok. I lied. I went out and got some just to try it out. It is a “meh” yarn for me.😮

Dear Aspen, Will you make a tuto ? I'd like to knit such a beautiful pull over as yours blue one. Or do you have any link to share with us? Forgive my english, it's not my 1st language. Big hug from France💋💋💋

hi! i know you made this tutorial a long time ago, but do you thing you could use the kitchener stitch at the end instead of binding off and seaming? i feel like that would work but im a bit newer and not entirely sure

Not a hot take, but adding to the acrylic versus natural discussion: I’m allergic to most animal based fur/wool, so I literally cannot have any knit wear that is made of it. Not fun. 🫠

If I'm using indie/hand-dyed yarn, I always alternate rows. It works really well! I'm glad you are giving it a try. It really is the only way to prevent that line if you're using hand-dyed yarn. Even the best indie dyers have slight variations in dye lots. Store bought yarn, though? As long as it's the same dye lot on the label, alternating rows is not necessary. I can't wait to see your finished product!

I'm just curious about this ripping off other people's designs things. Growing up in Turkiye, with 7 aunts and my grandma, all of them expert knitters/crocheters, I find this idea extremely strange. Knitting, crocheting, any fiber crafts has a looooong history in Anatolian culture, way before USA even existed. The patterns of embroidery, knitting, and crocheting were like community products, everyone would share them and even in my childhood (which is early 2000s), there were magazines that yarn companies published that advertised designs and patterns, and basically everyone would get them for free from newspapers, magazines, etc. Now those magazines are just online published, without a cost, and you can get them from the websites of these yarn brands. I will consider buying patterns when I am that advanced in a craft, but honestly seeing my mom just figuring out how to make it by her own after looking at pictures of other people's clothes, I just find this whole THIS IS MY PATTERN, I DESIGNED IT idea very strange and bizarre. It's extremely west-centric individualism sourced. Just my take. Fiber crafts have been with us for thousands of years, they were not these individualistic trendsy products. About wool/acrylic debate: If you say that wool is better and acryclic is just cheap to any Anatolian woman who learned these handcrafts before going to school, they will just laugh at your face. These handcrafts are with us today because they were community efforts, shared across the villages, families, friends.

though don't get me wrong, I still would buy patterns and I understand people's sentiments since they put so much effort into making these designs. I just think that these fibre arts have just become too individualistic, and we should also remember its roots and how they were practiced. I have no issue now, paying 5 dollars for a pattern which someone put hundreds of hours into it, but if you don't profit from it then in my opinion you can 'copy' someone else's products.

I have had loads of people crochet or knit in classes. All in higher education, not high school, but it was generally totally ok to knit or crochet during a lecture or lesson

I’m super lucky; my local thrift store has a specific fiber arts section (yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, embroidery thread etc) and for super cheap as well. Most skeins/balls are priced under a euro - often even under 50 cents. To be fair, the balls/skeins tend to be smaller the thicker the yarn is, but I think last time I bought 4 multi-colour balls of yarn for about a euro? I also once bought like 7 balls of the same orange yarn in a bag and it was still under 2 euros. I’ve recently picked up spool knitting again so multi-colour is super fun for me since it makes for more interesting cords, and I’m also figuring out what I can do with the cords! (I made a braided bracelet with one today! :D)

I don't think the amount of yarn I have makes me better. I'm just a stupid crow and I think "yarn pretty, must buy" Hell I actually think it makes me worse as a crocheter lol Only buy me yarn I want .....I.... I'm petty so I do care what you call it. But I get the point. I'm just too childish Oh one of my favorite yarns to work with is acrylic and I will die on that hill. Wool is scratchy and considering I don't crochet to be sustainable, I crochet because I have very bad anxiety and I need a hobby to calm me so I'll use the kartopu yarn because the touch of that and the end product fills me with joy
