well its a shame nobody else has left comments here, i found this fascinating as i am about to go down the slippery path of self employment and thinking about having a product injection molded, and having had some minimal advice i am interested to produce either reusable plastics, and/or a biodegradable variation for single use, but i would still not be too sure on which to go for, in particular as i might have thought the materials might be paper based, but i need some education there, seems these might be substitute food types, you mention the starch, which i think then poses the more serious questions on: yes the product can be biodegradable but is it also edible to our planets critters but from what i see here, there are obviously a couple i might not go for perhaps being to quick to degrade, and perhaps be swayed by something that can be degradable as well as be used multiple times i would be interested to know how these might fair being used with different paints, i am looking to produce something that will mix paint and become degradable, but i am now being swayed back to a plastic as much depends on its use, its likely after use, its thrown in the bin and will go through normal channels of refuse collection and automated sorting systems, other questions to raise is how it might react with different paints and chemicals, will it still break down, or will the paint protect it - with refuse will it be processed differently (i guess if marked) will it go through a process of hot washing to break down faster the obvious thing we consider is the single use coffee cup, straw/stirrer, discarded carelessly onto the grass verge where it will break down over time, all well and good, but what happens to the same cups when passing through the refuse process, are these materials expensive to produce and will they be collected, sorted, graded and reused as we do with plastic i think for my purpose being used with paint, i may as well stick with a real polymer plastics which can be processed when thrown into the rubbish bin with tins etc - but a great video, which has prompted an analysis i really wasn't expecting i will be interested in any further updates on your testing, although i see this is 2 years old, be great if you have a document with some images, the microscopic evidence was very cool - perhaps you can test your sticks, in paint, maybe screw them down to a piece of wood and leave outside, i suspect a few may be nibbled by mice etc, so will it harm them, if and when it gets into the water, what effect on fish

What incredible research on this ubiquitous product that I use almost daily. It`s always fascinated me how people from different places invent similar things at just about the same time. Yes, it had to be invented, which often takes a lot of thought to simplify for common use.

I built this circuit using an S8050 NPN (Q2) and S8550 PNP (Q1) , but it would not oscillate for me until I put a 455KHz filter (which I used for a capacitor) across R1. Now it is doing super well. 100pf or so would do as well I think. My alkaline batteries were quite spent and may have had too much internal resistance.

Good video. Ill add that while youre right the lower spring should be properly bent, theyre bent from the factory and thats not likely to wear straight. If your punch doesnt, well, punch, take a look at the top of the firing (tapered) pin. That piece gets as much impact as the material youre punching every time you use it and can quickly mushroom or dome, causing it to drop in the hammer hole prematurely. Grind it flat and squared and that should fix it. Another note, do not oil or lubricate these, it can cause the same problem. (As can a too straight spring as you correctly identify)

I bought about a kilo of thermoplastic beads (sold as polycaprolactone) a few years ago. I never got to use them until fairly recently and they don't seem to work as advertised. In hot water they still go clear, but they seem to flow into the water, becoming a runny liquid. When they form back into an opaque solid, they are crumbly and break up into more granulated, waxy residue. In fact, the resemblance to candle wax is almost identical. So, my question is, did my PCL go off and will no longer hold a form like a modelling thermoplastic? Or, am I sucker who was sold a couple of bags of paraffin wax instead of actual PCL?

Someone finally did it right with Spice. Thank you. Well done. I like the NPN / PNP approach as opposed to the special transformer. Although the component count is hard to beat with the toroid.

Got here on a massive tangent from how to fasten a better quality microphone to a Sony RX100vii camera. I suggest you change the Wikipedia cable ties page, to reflect that Wrobel not Logan, invented the cable tie. I would do it but that would be another degree of tangency.

@@andyharsley I fixed a part of the light fixture at my place of work. Then just so happens a mice was doing a mission impossible Tom Cruise thing on the ceiling, just to chew the PCL. It would have been cool if i’d recorded it with mission imposible sound track.then uploaded it on KZbin. Oh well there goes a cool video.

Do you think this would work on a charcoal-like product? turning it from coarse material into a granular?
@andyharsley
@andyharsley 2 жыл бұрын
Probably yes, but I expect it would produce a lot of fine powder as well. Some granulators feed the regrind into a cyclone system which separates the fines. Basically like a big Dyson vacuum cleaner. The dust gets extracted and the heavier granules fall through a funnel at the bottom. So I think it could be done with charcoal.

I think your money is mostly safe, apart from the polycaprolactone. Those should show signs of degradation by spring. The PHB may be a dark horse, and the brown Bioplast material might have enough starch in it to do something. It's a bit different from other bio-blends I've used and smells like popcorn after moulding. I'll be talking to the German manufacturers in a couple of weeks, so may have some more info on it soon.

Hey Andy. The sticks with the rubber cups on the end are for valve lapping on engine blocks. You put some lapping compound around the seat of the valve and then sucker the stick on the top. Spin it back and forth between your hands like you're trying to start a fire and it will regrind the valve seat.

Yes, my local forklift mechanic told me that yesterday. Learn something new every day! I did put it in the description, but its hiding below the show more button. Some of the pick hammers are for welding apparently, and the big round one for panel beating. I also picked up a 1974 oscilloscope, 2-ch 20MHz, but not done anything with it yet.
