Nice video, pity about your labour and challenges you have, sorry about that mate. Milwaukee has some neat plumbing and line "opening" tools you can use to cleanout and remove calcium and blocking agents. I always believe: better tools=quicker job=better and easier results=less time spend.

I've got a Seaflo which looks just like this -- but I think Seaflo is vastly inferior quality. Even the screws have rusted and corroded away in place! And the switch up top has never worked properly.

Ok now we know how retired boat owners do it! 🤔
@paulmach518 күн бұрын
The small hose outlet on the anti siphon is purely an air vent to prevent water siphoning back into your engine. Has nothing to do with cooling the exhaust it is merely a side effect as more modern anti siphons like the vetus etc have a valve which allows air in to prevent syphoning but when pressurised with the engine running the valve seals. A lot of people like the older more simple syphon as it acts as a tell tale out the side of the boat as a quick reference to make sure it’s pumping water. Also with reference to the hoses etc, clamping a hose within a hose is a bit of a no no. In the future you might want to change that to one uniform size hose that clamps directly onto the genset spigots. It may mean you need change your anti syphon to suit the size hose but it’s a much better job. All the best Paul UK

I got these at Brisbane Bearings but tbh they were all standard bearings so probably available from most bearing shops.

Must be somewhat irksome to have drilled those two large holes into the Dishy housing when the newer versions of the app allow dish horizontal configuration via software. But no harm done and it working is the important part.

Isn't it always the same with technology.. you spend days or weeks finding work arounds and the very next day someone releases a one click solution :/ It's like the 12v converter kit.. I was looking to source the parts here in Indonesia and a boat rocks up next to us with the latest 12v Startlink Mini.

Oh wow, that escalated quickly ;) But we feel your pain. Our ASM hasn't had time yet to throw some really good surprises & plot twists our way (I'm sure they'll happen when we sail her from Samos to the Netherlands in a few months!) but we're both long time liveaboards, each on our own sailboats until recently, so we know what it's like sometimes ... Just wanted to say we very much appreciate you sharing all your experiences - including when it doesn't go as planned. We can all learn a lot from each other this way! 🤗
@MothershipMaintenance2 ай бұрын
Thanks guys. Yes these boats keep you on your toes. Our boat was a doer upper, but we set sail anyway and it took us a few years just to move onto preventive maintenance rather than crisis maintenance all the time!.. Although we still do quite a lot of that still!
@PerthHunter2 ай бұрын
We did this on a berth to repair a damaged forestay and extend the foil that a PO had cut down due to elongated holes at the motor end. Can't imagine doing this at anchor or on a mooring!

Not sure how you'd incorporate that into the design.. especially in a salt water environment.. sounds like an expensive bit of kit if it had to me made from 316 stainless :/

Hey Woody, is the turbo and exhaust elbow ok to be done in isolation of the heat exchanger and oil cooler? Presume space a little tight but just need to drop the exhaust box hose?
@MothershipMaintenance3 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on the design of the engine but on the TMD22, yes. I clean the elbow and Turbo maybe once every two years but only done the heat exchanger and oil cooler once in the last 6 years.
@PerthHunter3 ай бұрын
@@MothershipMaintenance legend thanks. Added to the long list of boat jobs. I've got the same issue with the TMD22 peaking at about 2,000rpm, despite a clean prop and a relatively new turbo.

Did the engine speed go up after cleaning the turbine carbon? Does it emit black smoke when the turbine is running at high speed because of the carbon buildup? My boat has similar problem.
@MothershipMaintenance3 ай бұрын
Well it was running below par before this and went back to normal afterwards, so I wouldn't say it sped up, but it definitely improved things!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Quick question: the Quick 1200w Heating Element F/B3 comes with two gaskets. One is larger and flat, and the other is round and smaller in diameter. Do you use both gaskets or just the larger flat gasket for model B3 40L?
@baukjevanruiven-schuurmans33963 ай бұрын
Same question here. Did you find out yet?
@MothershipMaintenance3 ай бұрын
Use one or the other. I made that mistake the first time I changed mine and put both in.. thinking the more the better. Got water everywhere! I guess they put two in depending on the design of the housing. From memory I think used the flat one.
