And the only reason you didn't name this spot is because you're not from this area anybody that fishes search the spot for all the fish and friends. You can tell you don't fish this area you don't live in this area that's why you're not sharing
@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors 4 күн бұрын
What? Some proper grammar would help me understand what you're trying to say... Are you upset that I didn't share the spot? Whether I fish there frequently or not is irrelevant. I don't share spots publicly online. It's a lose-lose situation for me.

for using the finisher there's a soft spot in the back of the head right under the little notch on the top and you stick it in, point it up, and twist. Ringing a neck isn't humane unless you dislocate the spinal cord at the base of the neck.

That's valid feeling. A successful hunt is a bittersweet moment. I've felt bad over taking the life of animals but it's necessary to accept that death is a part of life. Something dies for me to eat. It's also not like I want to kill every deer. I take a deer but I'm happy to see the fawns and younger bucks that will grow up in their place.

I can only find regulations for commercial crawfish fishing in California. What are the regulations on sport fishing crawdads for personal consumption, not profit.
@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors Ай бұрын
Check the 2024 freshwater sport fishing regulation booklet. You need a sport fishing license, it's open year round, no bag limit but there's regulations on how you can catch them: by hand, dip net, hook & line, or with traps not more than 3ft in their greatest dimension. There's also closures in certain areas to protect Shasta crayfish.

Wow looks super good! What duck did you cook in this video? I’m from the bay and most the ducks around here I’ve shot have been divers or spoonies and I expected the fat to be yellow (fishy and pretty gross imo) but it was white and beautiful! I’m sure that tasted great!

These were spoonies. Some had fat that was more yellow. The yellow fat has some odor, but the meat tastes fine.

Sand crab is your go to bait? What general areas do you fish?
@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors 3 ай бұрын
It's not my go to but I've been trying to use it more recently. I've always heard it's the best bait to use and it makes sense, almost every fish I've kept from the surf has sand crabs in it's stomach. But I prefer using a carolina rig with a paddletail grub. I fish around HMB and up to Ocean beach.
@ronmodafferi8202
@ronmodafferi8202 3 ай бұрын
@@truoutdoors I only fish for 1.5-2 hours at a time and hate to spend 1 hour searching for sand crabs. I frequently fish Francis and less at Montara (because of parking). Lots at various Santa Cruz beaches.
@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors 3 ай бұрын
Ya, if I only have time for a short session, then I'll just use a carolina rig or lures. It doesn't take me too long to find sand crabs though. I get 1-2 to get my rod casted out and spend 5-10 minutes finding some to use for the day. I haven't had much luck at Francis. Santa Cruz is good but further away.

@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors 3 ай бұрын
Have you taken your hunter education/safety course yet? You'll both need to do that first before you can go hunting. A guide will be your best bet at getting a shot opportunity and they usually do the skinning and gutting unless you want to do it. I'd recommend being involved in that process as it's an important part of the hunting process. You'll need to take the animal to a butcher to have it processed unless you plan to also butcher it yourself.

How does it taste? Is it safe to eat it?
@truoutdoors
@truoutdoors 4 ай бұрын
Yes, it's safe to eat. Cook it to the proper temperature. The meat tasted like a mix of pork and beef. Some cuts were tougher than others, so low-temperature, slow-cook recipes work great.
