One thing that should be mentioned the smarts reverse gear in park works as a brake servo. So whenever the car is parked and keys removed, The smart car must be left in R gear. In park, without the handbrake fully up, has the potential to roll away I learnt the hard way. I've owned 7 and yes that seat adjustment is a real b***ch

Electronics are tricky, but those engines, if oiled regularly, are gems. Most of the electric issues on 100k+ mileage cars are because of faulty regulator of the generator.

Got a 1988 W126 300SE and considering going down the turbo route as in your car. Do you need to upgrade the head gasket or can the stock one handle it.
@AutoAfflictedАй бұрын
The stock gasket can handle boost, I opted not to upgrade mine at first and did have a gasket failure mostly due to the gasket getting corroded when the car sat for 8 years prior to my ownership… when the headgasket goes, the turbo will likely go due to polluted oil.. and the flush process to get creamy coolant oil out of the engine is a pain and cost$$ plenty for flush fluid, at least once full flush of oil and the rebuild. If you have the time and $, refreshing the front and top of the engine and fitting a new upgraded headgasket is well worth it

i really dont understand why USA cars wont never work and they have huge issues. Here in Finland, Sweden or Germany, Belgium, people do take care of their cars. People usually never want USA imported cars because of their list of issues. I mean how hard can it be? If you need to maintain your car every 15 000 km and have a list of things to maintain, why on earth you guys are not doing it. Car just cant exlode to parts by beeing in other continent :D

1000% agreement on the Mac bits. Bought both lengths straight from Mac, worth every penny. Xh8mmsbrtbs & xh8mmrbrtbs For the really tough one that u cant use a rachet on, i ended up putting a 10mm 12pt wrench over the shaft of the bit and pulled on that while i used a pry bar on the drive end of the bit, holding it into the stupid shallow hex head wrench. Few anxious moments but worked great. Replaced all the bolts with 12mm triple squares from audi in same lengths (4 long 1 short). Bought every variation Mac sells of the 12mm triple sq bits & used every one of them putting it back in. For a diy job, the investment was totally worth it
@AutoAfflictedАй бұрын
Smart work with the wrench over the bit, that tight area is strip a head in
@tedshred9285Ай бұрын
It was a good technique. The working end of the bit gets smaller, so u can slide the wrench towards the bolt & reposition for another pull without removing bit from the bolt head. Rewarded myself with a cold one for getting it out without stripping it. Might have been 2 cold ones...
