I really don't know why people often think 4c is an obstacle, it's very thick sure but the fact is it's also extremely soft. My grandmother (we called her Bobby) would be greasing my scalp when I was little and telling people "lawd this chile's hair is softer than king cotton.." Now I didn't know what that meant then, I was little, just sitting on the floor between her knees watching cartoons, but as I grew older, I figured it out. Once you put your hands in our hair when it's wet, you will learn the truth about why our hair can always, always come out bomb when it is dry. After using the right products from start to finish, 4c twists, braids, blows out, presses, curls, sets, (all of the above)..like BUTTER. *Healthy 4c feels to me.. like moist potting soil. It is luxurious. Don't let anyone ever tell you different. Thank you Bobby, for always making me feel like my hair was a special gift. I miss you.❤

Whyyyyyyy do hairstylists LOVE to give everyone a mf bob.ughhh our hair doesmt grow the same length all over our heads. So going straight across to me is crazy. Just do layers. Now if i sign up for a haircut thats different. But not a damn trim. Geesh

I was hoping to get some recommendations though. Are there any products you recommend to shampoo and conditioner my hair that's not going to damage it long term?

Yes, I need that video as well. Thank you so much for offering to do this. Your hair is indeed beautiful. I live in the Deep South of Texas and it is humid, hot and DRY here. This picture is an old picture and I have since damaged my hair with braids. Where I am, unfortunately, there are not many black hair salons catering to us. So thank you again.

I use Organic Argan oil, sometimes Xaymacan black castor oil butter, once a week in my hair that’s it. Each day I lightly spray water in my hair. No need to put oils, butter, or grease in your hair every day, of course it’s going to get oily, common sense.

I use NO hair products, no shampoo, no conditioner. I only use antibacterial bar soap 🧼 and water 💦 to wash my hair. Towel dry it, detangle it, and twist it. Simple. No scalp problems because there are no products on the scalp. No dryness of hair because there are no products on the hairs to prevent the hairs from catching air and moisture. I do not understand why my fellow Black people think our hair needs products. It doesn't. I had a TWA for years without hair products. I have grown out my hair for over 2 years without hair products or shampoo & conditioner. I plan to continue to grow long natural hair without any products as an EXPERIMENT.

If you want to stop a lot of breakage switch to an oil infused shampoo and conditioner. Stop using plastic hair tools, try using bamboo and boars hair tools. Far less breakage and split ends and it's easier to comb through.

The comprehension based on these comments is astounding. She did not say NOT to use grease. She said to make sure you wash it out and that may mean clarifying. Not using it often means not using it DAILY or multiple times a week. Using it properly means you use it once a week on wash day because you are using clean, damp hair to seal in the hydration with the grease. I’m listening to her and reading these comments about grease expecting her to say not to use it at all but that is not what she said. Before you come for me, GO BACK AND LISTEN. She also said don’t use it with HEAT. My goodness, some of yall did not do well with listening comprehension and it shows.

PS I think we need to learn our hair and do what works best for our own hair. There's nothing wrong with experimenting and trying things out. That's how I learned what my hair loves and grew it to mid back after a couple years after a big chop.

Thanks for an honest, informative, and respectful assessment! 💐 I have subscribed αnd look forward to more of your content !🎉💖😊 There have been comments on this vid on the usefulness of derm nurses. It made me think of my winding and extensive hair journey so I am taking the opportunity to share in one if the few spaces I could share this experience among women with likely to have similar experiences. I apologize in advance for the length. There was more to it than I realized! ❤ A derm nurse have YEARS of medical training and specialty preceptor/intern training, and passing exams. In addition, many pursue hair cosmetology certifications. They have had a parade of devastated clients/patients sit in their chair, unwrap their scarves or take off their wigs and tearfully tell their miserable hair journey. I speak from experience as a completely confused and distressed client. Like many reading this post, I’ve worn many styles growing up that pretty much evolved with each new stage I was entering: the fancy hair press by the older neighborhood matriarch with the with a makeshift salon toward the back of her house for my annual press with the old school hot comb on a solo burner burning bright orange-white with the special curling iron sitting on top, getting hotter by the second, used specifically to charge more money for Shirley Temple-style Candy Curls I would wear with the confidence of Naomi Canobell (you couldn’t tell me nothing 🙄, until it rained, which in my subtropical hometown was not uncommon.) All those hot grease//sit still / nothing because the press and curls evaporated into need for some ponytails and battettes and teasing. for Easter Service at church; significant chops (including the Anita Baker pixie- still one of my favorites-too cute), the Salt-N-Pepa heavy-krimping with freeze spritz (too-fly heat styles and so bad for my hair health, lol),to the world of extensions (sew-ins, glue tracks, full/partial wig caps, and eventually lace-fronts.) For long time during professional years, I wore a box braid bob that got the job done. It looked great, and was very flattering (slightly asymmetrical and curled under) and became my signature style. for extended period of tim. I moved toward more natural styles, twists, twist-outs, French braids (easiest style ever when hair is even and healthy all over otherwise your hair starts to frizz up at breakage points).. the past decade For now I wear twists and it’s all good! I am personally extremely thankful not only for skilled, licensed hair care professionals, but ALSO for the derm-affiliated professionals’ assist in helping me recover from hair/scalp damage as well as stylist abuse over the years. From eventually growing out my dependence on chemical relaxers, to stress-induced alopecia, to thyroid issues affecting hair growth, to loss of edges from too-tight braids, to two separate episodes of shingles…ON MY SCALP…!!! I would LOVE to add a cosmetic chemist to my arsenal to learn more and ask questions about EXACT products recommended for s/he would recommend for my HAIR and SKIN. For now I have to work with the pros I do have access to. I read, I listen, I watch, and look up and seek understanding of the ingredients lists, and also check reviews for products. Meanwhile, thankfully, my natural hair is in the slow yet steady process of recovery, in no small part to a combination of factors: -Conducting my own thorough research -Engaging fully with my derm medical team (asking relevant questions and receiving well -thought-out and insightful responses, including possible side effects of whatever they may be prescribing/recommending) and -Working with reputable, (I prefer personal recommendations) and experienced licensed hair care professionals who can integrate the derm or answer questions without feeling threatened and can help you accomplish your hair goals.

What is the difference between a silk press and you just washing your hair, drying it and flat iron? I am confused between the two because of so many different things I see on social media and it seems like we are calling a regular flat iron a silk press - I’m use of doing keratin treatments and that’s a WHOLE process versus a normal flat iron at home……someone help me understand so I know if I want a silk press or a flat iron

I could never do a wash n go, twist out, braids out, etc. I have three different textures in my hair. The front of my head doesn't have a curl pattern and it's basically straight. It has always been this way. So I'm not too concerned about preserving curls.

I am a straight natural and sweat from my scalp a lot. I’ve been to the dermatologist and have tried medication for this but it ended up drying my sinuses out too much and lead to a major respiratory situation. So I started lightly spraying my scalp with an antiperspirant and this has control my scalp sweating tremendously! I use the 72 hours antiperspirant and spray my scalp every 3 days. Once, right after I wash and silk press my hair and then every three days after that. It refreshes my hair and no more scalp sweating.

Is a silk press not damaging the hair with the heat on the scalp? I don’t think this is the best ‘healthy’ option for most of it. Every person has their own hair type & dryness factor. The ONLY healthy option is your natural hair which for most is hard to maintain. I think her best option looking at her hair was her natural hairstyles. Because her hair was healthy looking for most of her life like that. I’m just saying! A woman of a certain age will have hormonal issues. Whether she drink decaf or caffeinated coffee, she’ll sweat because of the hormone fluctuations and the heat from the coffee won’t help. We sweat in our scalp, neck or the whole body as a matter of fact, when it’s cold😅.

Why not do more research before you make a video. To say, " I don't feel like this product is this or that shows a lack of real knowledge. Tell us about the toxic chemicals in most hair products and some alternative products we can use. I just didn't get enough specifics about what is in bad products or good products. Educate yourself before you can truly educate and therefore protect us from short and long term harm from the thousands of hair products, none of which are government approved. Your heart seems to be in the right place but you lack in real knowledge. However, you do show that you have a clue about some of these products. We need more specific facts about not just the oils but also the toxic chemicals. You talked a lot but I didn't come away thinking I had been harmed with knowledge to make better choices when deciding on future purchases. Thank you for gour effort though..

I've been a licensed cosmetologist since 98, now a nurse. But when I listened to this video in the beginning, I thought to myself what about Sally's and Cosmo Prof a beauty store only for licensed professionals here in IL. Not sure if they are out of state. I quickly realized it only could be Asian and or middle eastern beauty store she was speaking of and absolutely agreed. These particular stores most times get products overseas or wherever and you absolutely have to be cautious if they are the real products. A clarifying shampoo should never be used without going in after with a moisturizing shampoo, and moisturizing conditioner, especially for ethnic hair. I do agree that the products mentioned are not the best for ethnic hair. I do really like jojoba oil but please get it from a reputable place. Jojoba oil mimics the natural oil on the body, please Google it. Really informative video.
