Dermatology nurse here... What she is saying is so true. Facts are, yes some ppl can use the products without issues , for others they can cause alopecia, contact dermatitis, etc. finasteride and monoxidil are great products but please keep in mind, they are lifetime products, meaning u MUST keep using them for it to work and yes, your hair will fall out once u stop. Several products have petrolatum, mineral oil, and other products that will indeed coat the hair but will not allow moisture to penetrate the hair shaft. Several products have FOREVER chemicals in them meaning once they penetrate your scalp and enter your system, they NEVER leave your body and over time, they build up causing health issues including cancer. Let that soak in for a moment. Listen, she is dropping some gems here, take it or leave it. All i can say is the marketing departments of these companies would love this comment section as it proves their strategies work. Do what works for u but stop getting upset and defensive when someone is only trying to help people make informed decisions.

People are getting way too defensive in the comments section. She's giving advice for anyone having problems and looking to get some solutions. To the creator, thank you! I've noticed that the products that make my hair soft aren't necessarily the best long term. Nothing gives me as much slip as leave in and grease in damp hair, but then I _have_ to use a harsh shampoo to make sure it's cleaned out properly (I can't go more than 6 days without washing my hair). A little counterproductive. I'm going to be incorporating heat in my haircare routine more as I notice that helps prevent single strand knots, so I have to let go of grease and some of my heavier products, anyway. Your recommendations are appreciated.

I use to wash my hair weekly with a clarifying shampoo with a PH 5.5 until it was squeaky clean. I then did a deep conditioner with Mane Choice Egyptian mask. I then detangled with Aussie 3 minute Moist which is filled with silicones. I did this weekly for 3 years and my hair grew so long. I've used and continue to use rice water and my hair got less breakage. It's never damaged my hair though it was DIY. If you don't know how and when to use it you will damage your hair. If someone doesn't know what they're doing and damages their hair with a product or DIY it's not the product or DIY that's the problem. Mercy Gono, a KZbinr and RN, gives a very good description of how to use it and different ways of making it. I've done it and other KZbinrs I've seen have done it well. I've used Blue Magic only on my strands and ends not root or scalp. People have to educate themselves on hair, the product and how to use them on their hair.

All of the women in my family use Blue Magic or Ultra Sheen (Ultra Sheen is unavailable now, I think) and ALL of us have thick, long, beautiful hair. My mom has been doing natural hair for 50 years and people say she has growing hands. Rediculous, she cleans, conditions your hair, and uses Grease to press.

Low porosity hair here, so less is more for me, more water based products than oil.

I use design essentials avocado and almond line. I use the shampoo, conditioner and the daily moisturizer. Not sure what else I am missing, when I try to flat iron my hair it does not (fall) lay down once it has been pressed, instead it sticks out at an angle. What am i missing? I would like to have my hair straight so I can let it hang, but until i can figure out why my hair wont lay down when it is flat ironed I dont think I will ever achieve this goal. Any advice on what I can add to my hair regimen from? I dont use heat on my hair hardly ever, for that reason, but every blue moon, i will try a small piece to see what it does and it never works. I got my split ends cut at hair dresser over 1 year ago as well.

I found out I'm allergic to that Mielle Rosemary Oil. It was awful.

I've been trying to tell ppl about the oils you first mentioned for a while now. Currently, I'm trying to find a shampoo under $20 without a lot of oils or shea butter. I don't mind it much in conditioner, but don't feel it's necessary in shampoo. I agree, rice water is terrible!

Then what can I use for itchy? Burning scalp and folicles. And what are the scientific ingredients that have been proven to grow hair? You didn't exactly say what to use. You just said basically what not to use. I'm confused.

Try prickly pear oil and bhringjah(spelling?) oil. I also use whipped shea butter to seal my braids. I usually clarify each time I shampoo with Pacifica rosemary mint. Joico works great for me for conditioning. Sheamoisture black castor oil shampoo.
