Is this panettone? What is the little cardinal inside your big bowl? You know I love dates and also nuts so I’m all over this. Amazing! Omg that caramelized bottom!
@gailskitchenКүн бұрын
Yes, this is essentially the same as Panetone. I also love this sort of thing! My good friend just gave me the batter bowl with the cardinal the day before I made the bread. The outside of the bowl has cardinals and pine cones...we are both bird lovers and she knows how much I love cardinals and when she saw the bowl, she knew it was for me. I actually overbaked this bread by about 10 minutes and was considering not publishing it...but I figured if someone notices, then they'll know to do a better job!
@onesixfiveКүн бұрын
@ I will be eating pannatone French toast on Xmas morning, with egg nog batter! Can’t wait. Yours looked amazing. Forcing all those dates and nuts to incorporate was crazy. I just saw how they hang them upside down with sticks when they cool recently. I didn’t know that. Did you?
@gailskitchenКүн бұрын
Did not know this...incorporating that much in the dough was crazy, yet after it bakes, it almost seems like it needs more!!! I like the idea of the French toast with egg nog batter! That sounds awesome...I was considering making a Panettone Bread Pudding video after the holidays. The egg nog would really take it up a notch.
@gailskitchenКүн бұрын
I am seriously considering not doing any more long form videos! I spend too much time on them ( I spent 9 hours putting together this video) and I need to figure out a better angle (no pun intended) for baking videos. I had wanted to make a video on Maryland style corned ham for Christmas. It's a regional Southern Maryland ham and I have a friend who continues the tradition each year. I asked him to please let me video the process...but he never called. The process is quite lengthy and uses an incredible amount of onions and greens to make a mixture, which is stuffed into slits in a fresh ham. I thought it would be an interesting video where I could get into the history as well as the process.
@onesixfiveКүн бұрын
@@gailskitchen I do like to drink egg nog as well (with cognac…..or bourbon…..or rum…..or….) but it’s a big jug and you can never drink it all. Bread pudding sounds amazing! Corned ham sounds like a stuffed chine (look it up). And I hear you on the work involved. I am very jaded with the cookbook videos. I already shot and edited the cooking/tasting segments but I am losing interest in finishing the video. That is why I ended up putting out the fort lock video first. It just felt like “work”. I have an idea for a Xmas video but as you referenced, it might be a short. I feel your pain!
@onesixfiveКүн бұрын
You have mastered the art of turning a video into a short. This is perfection!
@gailskitchenКүн бұрын
Thank you...I'm working on it Eric! There's millions of great shorts out there...so I've spent a little time watching some of them. It's mind boggling how much work people put into these!

Hi Gail! This is such a beautiful bread. Greatly prepared. I never used the whisk, but it is a great idea for a soft dough. I love to work with a soft dough because the bread will be extra soft. I Also I love bread baking videos. I enjoyed watching your method of baking I watched several times to support you. Thanks for sharing! I know this Tuscan coffee bread tasted great! Beautiful texture it has, oh yum!😋 ❤

Thank you for your kind words and support! I actually overbaked this loaf by about 5 minutes and I was not going to publish the video!!! But I don't think most people will even notice! I have difficulty making bread videos...it seems to take so much time and I spent 9 hours editing this one! I probably won't publish any more videos until next year. I have one video in the works, but I don't think I will have time to finish it...Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Great recipe. I made it but had to make some alterations because of bad reactions to wheat and soy (shortening). I used spelt flour instead of conventional wheat and used clarified butter in place of the shortening. I did not have any instant yeast on hand so I used active yeast and bloomed it in the 1 cup of water with two tablespoons of sugar out of the total. They turned out beautifully.
@gailskitchen4 күн бұрын
That's great! So glad the changes worked out for you and Thank you for sharing your modifications for those you can't have wheat or shortening.

@@onesixfive yes… I am surprised that this one is the favorite! I posted it last out of the four bc I figured it would be the least popular 😯. And yes, reposting worked out well! The original video took me over 8 days to make! So glad to get some more mileage out of that work. Now I have gotten myself into another big mess with six different shortbread cookies! Thanks for being there Eric!
