Handy spot on the right to put a cup of coffee lol ... I am seriously buying one of these. Need a second synth to pair with PolyBrute and have spent two days consdering everything I can afford on Thomann. And what options they are! But this is the only one that it really feels good to think about owning it whereas the others, all of them having something brilliant about them like the Wavestate or Cobalts8, but yet not really peaking my interest. But with this it just feels right, especially as the sound pallette is very different than the PolyBrute.

OK, gotta call you out on the demo section concerning the reverb. Would have be better to give us a sharp single pluck, so we could hear the nuances of predelay, size, decay, etc. Just my 2 cents. The pulsating chord wash doesn't really lets us hear what we want to analyze that type of effect. Sorry. Still huge props on the totality of review.,

There's a YT channel where the guy claims there is a 'bug' w/ the MIDI clock and the Time knob - I guess not realizing that most (if not all) delays use the Time knob as a mult/div of the incoming MIDI clock. As you are showing - you need to keep it at the 12 o'clock position if you don't want that functionality. He didn't seem to get that.

I sold my Jupiter-8 two decades ago (fool, i know) but i built all the BlackCorp synths by now and honestly, that is all you need if you care for the sound and not the collectors appeal. I know how to service them if something goes kaputt and I am super happy Roman and Bob gave us this amazing possibility to obtain affordable instruments that ring all the bells and whistles of the classics.

I'd like to see the original vs the mini vs Behringer. I wouldn't be surprised if the Behringer was closer to the original than the korg Mini. Possibly the full size MS 20 you assemble yourself may not be close. Everything should be taken into account if a comparison is made.

Nice ! But …$5k for a module? It’ sounds great ! !BUT? With $5k id get an MKS -80 WITH programmer. Or a JX3P, Super JX both with programmers and still have money to spare to probably get a Juno 60. Anyhow ..Nice video. Makes me wish I didn’t get rid of some of my synths.
@knobsswitches
@knobsswitches 27 күн бұрын
That's true, you can buy a lot of other great synthesisers for the money. However, I don't think the MKS-80 is the better choice and it's no closer to the JP-8. The ISE-NIN was built to be close. The MKS-80 was designed by Roland to be new and different. and yes, I also have some devices where I wish they had stayed ;-)

Thanks again (after watching part2). To my ears this ISE-NIN is a bit less snappy than this JP8 and also the OSCs are a bit less buzzy. BUT! You get all this new features, like on the Oberheim OB-X8, the very compact form factor and good looking design are making me want one some day. The ISE-NIN is a true killer 🙂 Thanks for the video and great track! - subbed!

Your comparison is very well done - Bravo! I noticed at the beginning of the video the Jupiter-8's filter was at -12dB and the ISE-NIN was -24dB. Even with the filter wide open, the -12dB and -24dB filters makes an audible difference in the top end on my ISE-NIN, I'm not sure if it's the same for the Jupiter-8. The ISE-NIN sounds very "Roland-ish"... I should do a comparison with my JP-8080.

in my time with ISI-NIN sitting side by side a Jupiter 8 I found the ISI-NIN a bit more punchy than the Jupiter 8, the Jupiter 8 FM scaling was a bit different. the Jupiter was a touch darker sounding (likely due to older caps/ calibration). so its interesting to hear your thoughts were kinda of the opposite. I'd chalk that up to the difference in different jupiter 8's. I've always been surprised at just how stable the jupiter 8 oscillators actually are so using modern SSI oscillators on the ISI-NIN makes sense to me. the main thing for me is the Filter has that kinda liquid sound that is instantly recognizable. side note ISI-NIN polyaftertouch was created with Hydrasynth as a test controller. so they work really nice together.
