Excellent breakdown of all the possible options with this amazing piece of gear! I really appreciate all the editing and time you put into it! Luckily I don't have giant moose knuckles so don't feel this and the Deckard's Dream are 'fiddly'. What they are are masterful analog recreations of the original gear.

in my time with ISI-NIN sitting side by side a Jupiter 8 I found the ISI-NIN a bit more punchy than the Jupiter 8, the Jupiter 8 FM scaling was a bit different. the Jupiter was a touch darker sounding (likely due to older caps/ calibration). so its interesting to hear your thoughts were kinda of the opposite. I'd chalk that up to the difference in different jupiter 8's. I've always been surprised at just how stable the jupiter 8 oscillators actually are so using modern SSI oscillators on the ISI-NIN makes sense to me. the main thing for me is the Filter has that kinda liquid sound that is instantly recognizable. side note ISI-NIN polyaftertouch was created with Hydrasynth as a test controller. so they work really nice together.

Yes, the Jupiter-8 I had here was also very stable in tuning. The second part of my review will be online tonight. I'll compare the two directly. maybe you'll take a look at it

Very nice overview of the ISE-NIN. Looking forward to part 2 of your review.

Nice ! But …$5k for a module? It’ sounds great ! !BUT? With $5k id get an MKS -80 WITH programmer. Or a JX3P, Super JX both with programmers and still have money to spare to probably get a Juno 60. Anyhow ..Nice video. Makes me wish I didn’t get rid of some of my synths.
@knobsswitches12 күн бұрын
That's true, you can buy a lot of other great synthesisers for the money. However, I don't think the MKS-80 is the better choice and it's no closer to the JP-8. The ISE-NIN was built to be close. The MKS-80 was designed by Roland to be new and different. and yes, I also have some devices where I wish they had stayed ;-)
@Bananskuden23 күн бұрын
I tried the ISE-NIN at Superbooth and found it very small and fiddly. They should have made it 50 % larger IMHO. From what I hear in this video it sometimes sounds very close, other times it's too stiff. Not bad, but more into VA territory. It's probably too much in tune :D
@knobsswitches22 күн бұрын
I would very much welcome a larger keyboard version, but that would be the BC form factor for all your devices. You can work on the tuning using the DRIFT and TIME settings. But of course this doesn't exactly emulate the behaviour of a 23 year old poly synth ;-)

Also the ISE-NIN & the Jupiter 8 sound identical. Couldn’t distinguish one from the other when I did the “blindfold” test
@MariusPitz23 күн бұрын
The ISE-NIN is 5190€ at Thomann today. For that price you get an Roland MKS-80 incl. programmer and are much closer in terms of sound, not so fiddly/small and value proof.
@donato7722 күн бұрын
MKS-80 sounds closer to a Jupiter 6.
@knobsswitches22 күн бұрын
That's right. The MKS-80 and the MPG-80 together are a pretty big piece of kit. But as far as the sound is concerned, I wouldn't say that the MKS-80 is closer to the Jupiter-8. I think there is a difference. The BlackCorporation tried to get close to the original. Roland tried to build another advanced synthesiser back then

I've never been a fan of the Jupiter 8. The Jupiter 4 yes! This unit seems as uninspiring as the Jupiter 8I'm sorry to say. As for the solo you highlight by Spliff, again nothing great, it's OK, the sound patch itself created is very good though. Try listening to Manfred Mann's keyboard solos. e.g. Crossfade, As Above So Below, Waiter There's A Yawn In My Ear .....etc Many more too. They will absolutely blow your mind and socks off, totally unique!

best Jupiter is the 4, worse the 6 and mks 80.

The Ise Nin is cool but I've got the Boutique and Behringer's JT-16 clone will probably cheaper than Black Corporations clone.

Probably a nice synth but if I had so much to spend on a synth I think I'd rather go for the Omega 8 from SE. The layout of this looks very much like the MKS-80..
