"The Tyranids are just animals, wanting to eat. Nothing more" But they destroy everything, without contributing to anything. Heck, even the most vicious animals contribute to something. They keep in check the population of other animals, keeping the ecosystem in balance. They die someday, dissolving in the ground, providing nutricion to, let's say, growing plants or scavengers. They produce excrement, being used as fertilizer to plants. They are still useful. The tyranids? They only take, don't give anything.

Judging 40k by the morals of 40k feels a bit meaningless. You are effectively just ranking the species by how quickly they will grant you death. Why not judge them by their ideals and aspirations, rather than the pragmatic necessities of the reality in which they find themselves.
@ThePontiusGlaw6919 сағат бұрын
Because their ideals are unreacheable, and using real life morals to judge what 40k factions can do and achieve in this grimdark universe is dumb at best, completely deranged at worst. The point of this video is showing that humans were at one point the biggest promoters for a friendly utopia, look where they are now. The ideals and aspirations of everyone is now supremacy over all others, they want nothing else as it is the best case scenario.
@adrianalexanderveidt34418 сағат бұрын
@@ThePontiusGlaw69 I just think it's a bit meaningless to evaluate the morals of various 40k special when they effective either have none to begin with, or their reality renders those morals irrelevant. It is like judging the morals of ant colonies vs hornet swarms. I don't even grant that Bricky "everyone is some shade of evil" statement any validity. There are objectively evil factions, but the other ones are merely self-serving and most often driven to survive and are guided towards survival by pragmaticism more than anything. It's a hill I'll die on against every idiot that quotes Bricky's take, because it fundamentally undermines the true value of the Grimdark genre, or at least the kind that WH40k is built on, namely that it is in the darkest times that even the tiniest glint of hope becomes that much more precious. Watch "Virgin Grimdark vs Chad Grimdark" by Noman for that point, it's a short video.

@lukkaredwolf353416 сағат бұрын
@ashardalondragnipurake 'nids are all part of the hive minds, and as such cannot make individual decisions to be good, and only follow their nature to consume. I'm not saying that Nids are specifically evil, especially when referring to the lower caste of Nids that are barely even a flicker of sapience, but the Ogryn actually try to be good, despite their lack of cranial capacity to think about it in more abstract thoughts. Also, just closing off the warp does not eliminate it, just the access at that point. Chaos is more than capable of sneaking around in areas where it can find gaps. Also, except for Hive Fleet Kronos, the Nids don't have any real species wide specialization to deal with Chaos, as far as I remember.

Also, the Eye of Terror being retconned into being the aftermath of the War in Heaven makes no sense since the Traitor Legions fled there PRECISELY because it was a new region of the Galaxy that nobody got around to exploring, and so the Imperium could not follow them there during the Scouring. The Maelstrom would make more sense for being the Warp Storm left in the aftermath of the War in Heaven (which didn't happen 60 million years ago, because that's stupid), since it's much closer to the center of the Galaxy.

The imperium's (and by extension, the whole humanity in WH40k) biggest sin is not the endless xenocides, slavery, and extreminatuses, but weakness, especially in terms of technology and societal development, thus raw military power and then the economy, for it was the single cause of all of those serious cruelty both against innocent fellow humans and xenos alike. If the imperium has the DAoT level tech and also somewhat become wiser than DAoT humanity, I can guarantee that it will turn 180 degress on their treatment of xenos and chaos. Tyrannids hive fleets will not be a scary existential threat but a cute raging pokemon pet and chaos gods will be humanity's (with more warp mastery than the Eldar) own C'tan. Morality needs power to have concrete effects in the real world. Power needs morality (in Nietzschean sense) too to self reproduce. Giving your best tech to sentient AI, barely giving training and exerting control to anyone that possesses superpowers and finally not having any contingency plan against your current allies was just stupid and completely avoidable. Just like other "dark sci fi" like Dune, WH40k is not pure satire, but a warning for IRL humanity from a fictional setting, using satirical tone simply as the appearance. Satire is the outer package not the content. Sadly IRL humans made those kind of stupid and completely avoidable mistakes too. Although I think a partial reset of IRL global political and economic system is necessary to fix all of modern problems like low birthrate, microplastics in environment and human bodies, skyrocketing price of regular homes, declining attention span, online petty tribalism and finally climate change, I wish there will be no IRL Age of Strife.

Great video. I agree with most of this. Warhammer hasn't been satire for decades now. Orks are... kind of evil but not on the level of Chaos or Dark Eldar. They are psychopathic manchildren football hooligans. Their cruelty is that of a particularly dumb child. The argument can be made that they are neutral or at least evil by nature, but not good. The Tyranids are not good at all. They can be evil, or a force of nature that is hostile. That doesn't make them good. Necrons are mostly evil, but some can be neutral, but most are just not sentient. Craftworld Eldar, the Imperium, and the Tau are as good guys as they can be, each out for their own people's sakes. The ethereals are definately up to something shady, and some High Lords definately are too. But the average imperial, eldar or tau is unlikely to be evil. Everything the Imperium do is justified and necessary. This is just a theory of mine, but any not evil alien race likely did not survive the Age of Strife, if they used Warp travel too, they would also be broken by it, and stomped out by the more warlike races. What few remained, the Imperium couldn't afford to care, and better safe than sorry. If 99 out of 100 aliens are hostile, by the time you meet that rare alien that isn't, it is just common sense not to take it as face value.
