There will still be old fluid in the ABS pump unless it is activated and bled through the front calipers(?).
@stevenstrackdays26877 күн бұрын
In the manual, it mentioned ABS in a notes section: An initial pressure of 2.0 bar (29 psi) is required to bleed the ABS Hydraulic Unit. I don't worry about ABS personally. I think the fluid amount in ABS is small.

Great video. I have a couple of questions. the brake pads looked like they still had lots of life left in them. is there a reason for swapping them out? Second, can you rebuild the ecs 2 piece rotor? i assume it would be cheaper.
@stevenstrackdays268712 күн бұрын
Swapping them out for racing pads. (Turned out that they're not racing capable pads.) I chatted with the ECS Tuning customer service to ask for ring replacement. They didn't sell, but they applied some discount for my second purchase of full rotors.
@stevenstrackdays268712 күн бұрын
Oh, you meant resurfacing. It should be cheaper but I was afraid that the OEM rotors cannot handle heat on track. I replaced OEM rotors with ECS Tuning rotors.
@BrothaWithGunz10 күн бұрын
@@stevenstrackdays2687 This is exactly what I was wondering. kind of strange they wouldn't sell the ring. Thank you for responding. That might make me consider 034 rotors since they sell the rings.

Does anyone know where I can buy that caliper compression tool!? I already have one that worked fine on the rear brakes, but since the front caliper is fully enclosed the tool I have won’t reach deep enough in between the front brake pads. @@stevenstrackdays2687 Thanks for the quick reply. I would assume the detailed steps you provided on the video should be applicable for my 2020 Q5? Any thoughts on upgrading my Q5 rotors to drilled/slotted rotors vs OEM?
@stevenstrackdays2687Ай бұрын
The steps should work for many Audi cars but I cannot 100% confirm because I don't have those cars. Generally you don't need drilled/slotted rotors for street. And even for track, the REAR drilled/slotted rotors are not necessary. Rear brakes barely overheating on track in my experience. So, for Q5, consider as pure visual upgrades...

There wasn't another choice at that time. ECS ones were the only choice I found for track. Not really confirmed concerns. Maybe the so many drilled holds cause uneven and excessive worn? You don't need that fancy $70 M10 TZN Stubby set. Turn the steering wheel to gain access to the bracket and caliper bolts. This will give you a full foot in there. For example, when working on the right front brake, turn the wheel to the left to access those bolts without special tools. I used the M10 bit from a $13 cheapo 'CASOMAN 9-Piece Low Profile Impact Triple Square Bit Socket Set' (amazon) and an old chunky husky wrench. Even this low profile kit is not needed, any old M10 laying around will fit. For the 21mm caliper bolt an 18" breaker bar is perfect once the wheel is turned, but a 24" would work too.

you should never push brake fluid backwards - it can damage the abs system. open the calliper bolt as you push the pad back to release old fluid. put fresh fluid into the top reservoir. Other than that good video. I'd also clean the calliper with dragon blood to return to a new status. Yes, I have OCD.
@stevenstrackdays2687 Жыл бұрын
Hi @richsmif, thanks for the advice. I checked the Audi repair manual again, but it didn't mention releasing fluid from the calipers. The manual simply stated that when pushing the fluid back, ensure it doesn't exceed the MAX level in the reservoir. I'm not a mechanic, so I can't determine whether the manual is right or wrong. I assume pushing the fluid back is okay or carries minimal risk.
