Good video. I would recommend hammering on the the outside of the rotor close to the edge vs around the hub if you are replacing it. Much easier and faster for rotors that are hard to get off. I used a 48oz snapon thermoplastic headed hammer which will not damage the surface, not that I cared since I was replacing the rotor anyway. Couldn't break it free using a dead blow hammer around the hub is how I know the hammering on the rotor surface was much faster and successful. Overall the instructions were great and it was a pretty swap out of rotor and pads. The audi oem pads come with new bolts to fasten the caliper back on. Replacement of those is recommended in the factory service manual regardless of what pads you install.

@stevenstrackdays2687Ай бұрын
The steps should work for many Audi cars but I cannot 100% confirm because I don't have those cars. Generally you don't need drilled/slotted rotors for street. And even for track, the REAR drilled/slotted rotors are not necessary. Rear brakes barely overheating on track in my experience. So, for Q5, consider as pure visual upgrades...

I used yellowstuff for track day and street. They are street pads, and ok for first/second time track days. If your racing skills improve, don't use them (and stock pads) for track days anymy. you should never push brake fluid backwards - it can damage the abs system. open the calliper bolt as you push the pad back to release old fluid. put fresh fluid into the top reservoir. Other than that good video. I'd also clean the calliper with dragon blood to return to a new status. Yes, I have OCD.
@stevenstrackdays2687 Жыл бұрын
Hi @richsmif, thanks for the advice. I checked the Audi repair manual again, but it didn't mention releasing fluid from the calipers. The manual simply stated that when pushing the fluid back, ensure it doesn't exceed the MAX level in the reservoir. I'm not a mechanic, so I can't determine whether the manual is right or wrong. I assume pushing the fluid back is okay or carries minimal risk.
