I lived in Austin in the mid 90's with my girlfriend on Nueces street, which was one block away from "The Drag." She went to UT and I was a teacher in AISD. We lived in the same apartment house that Janis Joplin lived in when she was in Austin in the late 60's. Austin was so groovy. The 90's were like the 60's upsidedown; they were the last great decade to be alive in the US.

Electric busses are used in many cities around the world. You just have to buy the right brand. The problem in the US, and particularly in "wrapped in the flag" Texas, is the poor optics of buying a non-North American made product for almost anything. Pretty confidant that Volvo, BYD (Chinese), Daimler (German) and others could have provided busses and the parts needed without issue. These companies all have way more experience designing and building electric busses than any of the US based companies. Agree it would have been better to move more slowly on this, but I also think it would be good to someday have an all electric or maybe hydrogen based bus fleet - or a mix of the two.
@SFSCharlesКүн бұрын
You make some valid points! It's interesting to see how different countries are approaching the transition to electric buses. A balanced mix of options could definitely be the way forward.

I am just visiting here in TX at the moment and I am amazed everything is just so far away. No wonder the only stores around are big box stores as the population density is so low that its the only store type that can be supported. Splitting lot size would defiantly help, due to everything is over sized here there are plenty of space to support increase density. I am also amazed on just how small the cities are in TX, They are just mostly Suburbia.

I wouldn’t live anywhere except in Austin in the actual city. I’m on a quiet street but I am in walking distance to everything! and I just love the vibe here. After losing my job at Sears Teleserv, and Dell, the companies were screwing the income of the workers to pay for their over inflated housing prices.. In the 90’s, Dell paid me $13.00 hour to be a tech support worker, then Dell outsourced to India and other countries.

@@SFSCharles Thanks for responding! I worked at Dell, and Sears Teleserve in between 1998-2002. I realized why the housing market, job market and politics were all connected. I wasn’t trained to deal with the office politics, social graces, and the lack of ADHD, Autism awareness, with other slow learning, and unacceptable social issues that were going on. Most of these areas I’m aware of; are pro-Islam and Neo-Pagan, from my point of view. Yet the living standards and prices were 20-40% higher than Waco, Temple and Killeen combined. I’m a native west Texas resident from El Paso, from 1992-1997 at Texas State Technical College in Waco. Dell did create a Dell Jewish Community Compound in a gated walled part of Northern Austin.
